Before you capture: confirm the test environment
The title does not specify a payment provider, so exact dashboard labels and UPI test steps depend on your account. Confirm that you are using an authorized test merchant account and the provider’s documented sandbox or test mode before opening the dashboard. Do not use production credentials in a test script.

For example, Razorpay documents Test Mode and Live Mode as separate environments: they use separate API keys, test-created transactions and entities are isolated from Live Mode, and Test Mode does not use real money. Capture the authenticated dashboard with Playwright
Playwright’s recommended pattern is to create authenticated browser state in a setup project and reuse it in later tests. The example below uses a login page and dashboard selectors as placeholders: replace them with the provider’s approved test login route, field selectors, and a stable dashboard element. Do not attempt to bypass access controls or use a live account.

1. Install Playwright
For a JavaScript project, install Playwright and its browser:

npx playwright install chromium2. Add a setup project and screenshot test
Create playwright.config.js. The setup test will save authentication state under playwright/.auth; the dashboard test will reuse it.

Choose the right screenshot and verify the evidence
- One dashboard panel: use a locator screenshot when the purpose is to show a transaction table, status card, or other specific region without unrelated account details.
- Full page: set
fullPage: truewhen relevant content extends below the viewport. For pages with lazy-loaded content, confirm that the needed rows or images have loaded before capture. - Visual comparison: run the baseline and later screenshot in the same browser and host configuration. Playwright notes that operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, and headless mode can affect screenshot appearance.
For transaction evidence, verify the displayed status in the provider’s test dashboard and distinguish simulated test activity from live payments. Razorpay’s guidance describes checking transaction status through its dashboard, but the available methods can depend on account configuration. Label artifacts as test or sandbox evidence where appropriate, and crop or redact personal data and unrelated account details.

Protect authentication state and screenshot artifacts
Playwright warns: “The browser state file may contain sensitive cookies and headers that could be used to impersonate you or your test account.” Treat the saved state like a credential: keep it out of source control, restrict access to CI artifacts, and regenerate it when the session expires. Avoid including secrets or unnecessary personal information in screenshots, filenames, logs, and uploaded reports.
Razorpay separately cautions against sharing API key secrets publicly. Its key guidance is provider-specific, but the safe practice is broadly useful: do not place credentials in source code or publish them with screenshot artifacts.
Troubleshooting common capture failures
- The dashboard redirects to login: the saved session may have expired, the setup step may not have completed, or the test and dashboard URLs may belong to different environments. Re-run authentication using the approved test flow and verify the account’s mode.
- A selector times out: the provider UI may use a different label, the wrong dashboard route may be open, or the page may not have loaded. Inspect the test page in the authorized test account and replace the example selector with a stable heading, table, or row.
- The screenshot is blank or incomplete: capture only after a meaningful readiness condition is visible. If content loads on scroll, ensure the relevant content has loaded before taking a full-page image.
- The image differs between runs: check whether the operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, or headless mode changed. Keep the capture environment consistent when doing visual comparison.
- The test transaction is missing or its status is unexpected: confirm that the transaction was created in the intended test environment and consult the provider’s current UPI test instructions. The exact simulation path is provider- and account-dependent.
