Dismiss the OneTrust banner with its close control—not “Accept All”—then capture the page in the same browser context that holds your signed-in session. In Playwright, restore the saved authentication state, navigate to the page, use a locator matched to the site’s actual dismiss control, wait for the page to settle, and call page.screenshot(). Closing the banner is not consent to accept or reject cookies: OneTrust says OneTrust.Close() applies the configured default consent model.
Close the banner without changing the intended consent choice
OneTrust distinguishes dismissing its banner from making an affirmative consent choice. Its Web CMP documentation describes OneTrust.Close() as dismissing the banner and setting the configured default consent model. Separate methods exist for allowing all or rejecting all. The close (×) control is designed to close the banner without actively accepting or rejecting cookies.
Choose the site’s close or equivalent dismiss control when the goal is to remove the overlay while leaving the configured default in place. Use “Accept All” or “Reject All” only when that is the user’s intended choice. Site configuration determines the default model and which controls appear. OneTrust Web CMP JavaScript methods and its banner configuration guidance explain the distinction.
Take a one-off screenshot manually
- Open the site in the browser profile you normally use and sign in. Keep the same tab and profile open.
- When the banner appears, inspect its controls and click the close (×) or equivalent dismiss control if that matches the intended consent choice. Do not click “Accept All” merely to remove the overlay.
- Confirm the banner and any blocking overlay have disappeared, and that you remain signed in.
- Scroll or resize the page to frame the content. Capture the visible viewport for the current screen, or use full-page capture if content below the fold is needed.
- Review the resulting image for account identifiers and other personal or sensitive information before sharing it.
Automate the capture with Playwright
Save and restore the signed-in browser state
Playwright supports saving authentication state after a sign-in flow and reusing it in a later browser context. The following is the capture portion of a script, assuming browser is already launched and targetUrl is the page to capture:
// Reuse authentication state saved by a prior sign-in/setup step.
const context = await browser.newContext({ storageState: 'playwright/.auth/user.json' });
const page = await context.newPage();
await page.goto(targetUrl);
// Example only: match the target site's actual accessible close control.
const closeButton = page.getByRole('button', { name: /close/i });
await closeButton.click();
await closeButton.waitFor({ state: 'hidden' });
// Prefer a site-specific readiness condition before capturing.
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
await context.close();
The regular-expression locator is illustrative, not universal. OneTrust templates and site customizations vary in accessible names and markup. Inspect the rendered page and replace it with a locator that matches the actual close/dismiss control; do not use a broad selector that could click an accept or reject option. Navigation may finish before application content is ready, so replace or supplement the simple wait with a target-specific readiness condition, such as waiting for a known content element.

Use the OneTrust API only when the target site supports it
If the target deployment exposes and supports OneTrust’s public API, OneTrust.Close() is a documented dismissal method. For example, after navigation and after verifying the API is available:
await page.evaluate(() => {
if (!window.OneTrust || typeof window.OneTrust.Close !== 'function') {
throw new Error('OneTrust.Close() is unavailable on this page');
}
window.OneTrust.Close();
});
This is not guaranteed to work on every site: the API may not be exposed at that moment, and the site’s setup and banner implementation vary. Prefer the real user-facing control when possible. Do not substitute OneTrust.AllowAll() or OneTrust.RejectAll() unless the corresponding consent choice is intended. See OneTrust’s method documentation.

Choose viewport or full-page output
By default, page.screenshot() captures the current page viewport. Set fullPage: true to capture the full scrollable document. Full-page images can be much taller and may include content that is not visible in the current screen; review the result before sharing. Playwright documents these options in its Page API.
Why the banner can return
Dismissing the banner does not guarantee it will stay dismissed across browser sessions or devices. OneTrust describes persistence as dependent on consent cookies, configuration, and browser behavior. Clearing cookies or browser data can make the banner appear again. Its cited guidance describes Safari/iOS prompting at seven-day intervals in that documented context; treat that as context-specific behavior, not a universal interval for every OneTrust site or browser. See OneTrust’s consent-cookie and banner behavior article.
Troubleshoot a failed or misleading capture
- The close locator times out: The button may use a different accessible name, the banner may not have appeared, or the UI may not yet be ready. Inspect the rendered controls, wait for the banner or a known page element, and use a locator specific to the actual dismiss control.
- The script clicks the wrong choice: A generic text or button selector can match an accept/reject control. Identify the close control by its accessible name or a site-specific selector, and verify the result before capture.
- The page is signed out: Confirm that the saved state belongs to the correct account and is current, then repeat the normal sign-in/setup flow and save state again. Keep the state file private.
- The banner returns on the next run: Check whether cookies or browser data are being cleared and whether the site’s consent configuration or browser behavior requires the banner again. Do not assume dismissal permanently stores a choice.
- The screenshot shows loading content: Add a wait for a target-specific content element or a known readiness condition before calling
screenshot(); navigation alone may not mean the application has finished rendering. - The capture is cropped: Use
fullPage: truefor the scrollable document, or adjust the viewport and scroll position for a viewport-only capture. OneTrust.Close()is undefined: The target may not expose the API or it may not be available yet. Use the visible dismiss control, or verify the site’s supported integration before relying on the API.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo can capture a URL with one GET request, returning an image or PDF. It removes supported cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; failed loads, bot checks, blank pages, and cache hits are not billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents use screenshot tools. A logged-in page still requires appropriate authentication setup; do not send credentials or private session material unless your integration is designed to handle them securely.
