To capture an entire GitHub page in desktop Chrome, open DevTools, open its command menu, and run Capture full size screenshot. Use Ctrl+Shift+I followed by Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux; on Mac, use Cmd+Option+I followed by Cmd+Shift+P. Then search for and select capture full size screenshot.
The DevTools command captures the page beyond the visible viewport, including content below the fold. It is different from an operating-system screenshot shortcut, which normally records only the pixels currently on screen. The desktop sequence below comes from a Chrome Community answer published on March 6, 2025, rather than an official Chrome Help procedure, so labels and availability can vary by Chrome version, platform, or administrator policy.
Choose the right kind of GitHub screenshot
| What you need | Use this method | What it captures |
|---|---|---|
| The complete repository, issue, pull request, or documentation page | Desktop Chrome DevTools full-size capture | A single image extending below the viewport |
| Only what is visible right now | Your operating system’s screenshot tool | The current screen or selected region |
| A long page on an Android phone or tablet | Chrome’s More > Share > Long screenshot flow | A vertically cropped long image that you adjust before saving |
| A repeatable, automated capture | A screenshot API such as ScreenshotNeo | A server-generated PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF using URL and rendering options |
If the result must show material beneath the first screen, choose a full-page method and inspect the resulting file before sharing it.
Desktop Chrome: capture the entire GitHub page
1. Open the page and let its content load
Navigate to the GitHub URL in desktop Chrome. Wait until the heading, code, issue discussion, or other material you need is present. The screenshot reflects what Chrome can currently render, so confirm that the correct repository, branch, issue, or pull request is open before capturing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors#1 Best Overall
2. Open DevTools
- On Windows or Linux, press Ctrl+Shift+I.
- On macOS, press Cmd+Option+I.
You can also open DevTools through Chrome’s menu if keyboard shortcuts are intercepted by your window manager or an organization policy.
3. Open the DevTools command menu
- On Windows or Linux, press Ctrl+Shift+P.
- On macOS, press Cmd+Shift+P.
4. Run the full-size command
Type capture full size screenshot into the command menu. Select the matching command, not a normal visible-area screenshot command. Chrome then generates an image of the page’s full rendered height.
5. Find and verify the file
A Chrome Community user reported that the resulting PNG was saved in Downloads. That is not a universal guarantee: Chrome’s configured download folder, prompts, and operating-system settings can put the file elsewhere. Open the image and check the bottom of the GitHub page, not just its top, before you publish or attach it.

Make the capture readable
- Check the page state first. Make sure the URL and visible title identify the intended GitHub content.
- Review the complete image. Confirm that the final sections, comments, code blocks, and links you need appear below the fold.
- Keep the original file. Re-encoding or resizing after capture can make source code harder to read; retain the browser-generated file as your master copy.
- Use a visible-screen capture only when appropriate. It is suitable for documenting a dialog or a single toolbar state, but it does not prove what is lower on a long page.
When the DevTools command is missing or blocked
Check the command wording and DevTools focus
Open DevTools first, then open its command menu and search for the complete phrase capture full size screenshot. A search for a generic word such as “screenshot” can return a different command. If the command still does not appear, Chrome’s UI may differ from the Community instructions for your installed version.
Consider a managed Chrome policy
Google’s Chrome Enterprise and Education documentation says screenshot prevention can apply to managed users and browsers with a Chrome Enterprise Premium license on supported platforms. The policy can block screenshots taken by keyboard shortcuts, apps, or extensions that use Chrome’s capture API. On a work-managed browser, a missing or disabled command may therefore be intentional. Contact your administrator rather than attempting to bypass the policy.
Do not assume a particular save location
The reported Downloads destination is user-reported behavior, not a Chrome guarantee. Check Chrome’s download settings and the operating system’s file picker if the image is not in the folder you expected.
Android Chrome: use the documented long-screenshot flow
Android does not use the desktop DevTools shortcut sequence. In Chrome for Android, Google documents this path in Chrome Help:
- Open the GitHub page in Chrome.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Share.
- Choose Long screenshot.
- Drag the crop handles to include the required portion of the page.
- Save the image or share it from the resulting screen.
This Android procedure gives you an adjustable long image. It is separate from the desktop command-menu workflow and should not be used as evidence that the same controls exist on Windows, Linux, or macOS.

Visible-screen screenshots and extensions
Chrome Community replies to the question “How do I take a screenshot of a web page?” also mention operating-system screenshot tools and browser extensions. Those approaches can be useful for the currently visible screen, but no particular extension is identified or endorsed by the cited sources. For a complete GitHub page, use the DevTools full-size command on desktop or Android’s Long screenshot option and verify the lower content.
Automate GitHub captures without a browser window
Manual DevTools capture is practical for an occasional page. A URL-based API is more suitable when you need the same GitHub page regularly, want a scriptable workflow, or need an image or PDF from a build or documentation job.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts one GET request and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before capture, it accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and every response identifies the outcome with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools to Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
Replace the example URL with the GitHub page you want. The complete API documentation is at https://screenshotneo.com/docs/.
cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://github.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://github.com"}, timeout=90)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://github.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot failed: ${res.status}`);
const fs = await import('node:fs/promises');
await fs.writeFile('shot.webp', Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer()));
Options useful for GitHub pages
- Capture the full page, including lazy-loaded images, or capture one element with a CSS selector.
- Select dark mode, one of 12 device presets, any viewport, and a retina scale.
- Return a PDF with paper size, margins, landscape orientation, and page ranges.
- Render supplied HTML/CSS, add custom CSS or JavaScript, click an element before capture, and hide selectors.
- Wait for a selector, a delay, or network idle before rendering.
- Block ads, trackers, selected requests, or resource types.
- Send custom headers, cookies, a user agent, or an Authorization header when the page requires them.
- Set timezone and geolocation, use a transparent background, resize the output, or cache it with a TTL you choose.
- Create signed links for public
<img>tags, submit asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, capture up to 100 URLs per bulk call, query usage through the usage API, and use the OpenAPI specification. - Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify a migration.
Plans and billing
Every ScreenshotNeo feature is available on every plan. Yearly billing gives two months free.
Best Value
| Plan | Allowance | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 1,000 shots per month | $0; no card |
| Starter | 3,000 shots | $5 |
| Growth | 15,000 shots | $15 |
| Pro | 60,000 shots | $39 |
| Scale | 250,000 shots | $99 |
| Business | 1,000,000 shots | $249 |
Clean shots are the billable result. A cache hit, failed load, timeout, blank page, bot check, or CAPTCHA is reported in the response and costs nothing. For an occasional GitHub capture, start with the free allowance; recurring jobs can select a paid allowance without changing the API call.

| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The image contains only the visible viewport | A visible-screen tool or a different DevTools command was used | Open DevTools’ command menu and run capture full size screenshot. |
| The full-size command is not listed | Chrome’s interface differs, DevTools is not focused, or policy restricts capture | Open DevTools before searching, verify the exact phrase, then check whether the browser is organization-managed. |
| The screenshot is not in Downloads | Download-folder settings vary | Check Chrome’s configured download location and any save dialog. |
| Capture is blocked on a work device | Screenshot prevention policy | Ask the administrator whether the managed-browser policy permits screenshots; do not bypass it. |
| The Android menu has no desktop-style command | Desktop and Android use different workflows | Use More > Share > Long screenshot on Android. |
| An automated API response is not a normal page image | The target produced a bot check, blank page, timeout, failed load, or cache hit | Inspect X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed; adjust wait, headers, cookies, user agent, blocking, or caching options as appropriate. |
Which method should you use?
- Choose desktop DevTools when you need one full GitHub page and can operate Chrome interactively.
- Choose Android Long screenshot when the capture is being made on an Android device.
- Choose a visible-screen tool for a single on-screen state rather than a complete page.
- Choose ScreenshotNeo when you need repeatable requests, PDFs, bulk URLs, MCP access for AI agents, or rendering controls without maintaining browser setup.
The reliable desktop answer is therefore the DevTools command-menu workflow: open DevTools, search for capture full size screenshot, select it, and inspect the saved image all the way to the bottom.
