For ordinary screen mirroring, use Smart View: connect the tablet and TV to the same Wi-Fi network, open Smart View from Quick Settings, select the TV, and approve the connection. If the TV is unavailable, a USB-C-to-HDMI connection may work—but only on Galaxy Tab models that support HDMI output. Use Samsung DeX instead when you want its desktop-style interface on the external display, not a copy of the tablet screen.
Choose the right way to connect

Model support, menu labels, and availability vary with the Galaxy Tab, region, software version, and display. Check the settings on your tablet and Samsung’s compatibility information for your exact model before relying on a feature.

Mirror your tablet wirelessly with Smart View
- Turn on the TV and connect it and the tablet to the same Wi-Fi network.
- On the tablet, swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers to open Quick Settings, then tap Smart View. If the button is not visible, swipe again to see the expanded Quick Settings panel.
- Choose the TV from the device list.
- Approve the connection on the TV or tablet if prompted. Depending on the TV, this may involve a PIN, connection request, or permission prompt.
- To stop, open Smart View and disconnect.
Samsung also documents starting a connection in SmartThings: open the TV in the app, tap More options, choose Mirror screen (Smart View), and approve the prompt. Available options can vary. See Samsung’s Smart View setup guidance.
If the TV does not appear in Smart View
- Check the network: Confirm that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, then reopen Smart View.
- Check the TV: Make sure it is on and that its screen-mirroring feature is enabled if required. Some TVs need the correct input or a device-connection setting selected.
- Respond to permission prompts: Look for a connection request or access prompt on the TV; some displays require approval before they appear or connect.
- Confirm compatibility: The TV must support a screen-mirroring method compatible with the tablet. Menu names and steps vary by TV model and software.

Use USB-C to HDMI when wireless mirroring is not practical
A cable is a useful alternative when the TV does not support compatible wireless mirroring or the wireless connection is unavailable. Samsung describes connecting a DeX cable or USB-C-to-HDMI cable or adapter to the tablet and display, selecting the TV’s HDMI source, and following any notification or on-screen prompt. Some supported tablets begin mirroring automatically. The adapter is optional; it does not add video output to a tablet that lacks it. See Samsung’s instructions for connecting a device to a display.
Check your exact tablet before buying a cable
Samsung’s current U.S. DeX FAQ lists HDMI output for Tab S4, Tab S5e, Tab Active Pro, Tab Active 3, Tab S6, Tab S7 series, Tab S8 series, Tab S9 series, Tab S10 series, Tab S11 series, and Tab A11+. The same FAQ specifically excludes Tab S9 FE and S9 FE+, Tab S10 FE and S10 FE+, and Tab S10 Lite from HDMI output. These are the models listed in Samsung’s U.S. FAQ; support can vary by region and the list may change. Verify the exact model in the current Samsung DeX compatibility FAQ before purchasing an adapter.

Smart View or Samsung DeX?
Smart View is for showing the same screen you see on the tablet. DeX places Samsung’s separate DeX interface on an external display. Samsung states that Smart View cannot cast the tablet screen while DeX is active; wireless DeX casts the DeX screen instead. Choose based on what you want to see, not simply whether the connection is wireless. See Samsung’s explanation of Smart View and DeX.

When wireless DeX is appropriate
Use wireless DeX if you want the DeX interface on a compatible TV or monitor rather than a straight mirror. Samsung’s current FAQ lists wireless DeX for Tab Active 3, Tab S5e, Tab S6, Tab S7, Tab S8, Tab S9, Tab S10, and Tab S11 families, and Tab A11+. It excludes Tab S9 FE and S9 FE+, Tab S10 FE and S10 FE+, and Tab S10 Lite. Confirm an individual model in Samsung’s DeX compatibility FAQ.

- Open Quick Settings and turn on DeX.
- Select DeX on TV or monitor.
- Choose the display, start the connection, and accept the request on the display if prompted.
Samsung’s guide recommends a Samsung Smart TV released in or after 2019. Other TVs or dongles with compatible Miracast screen sharing may work, but Samsung does not guarantee their performance. See the Samsung wireless DeX guide.

This is a DeX issue, not a step in basic Smart View setup. Samsung’s troubleshooting page describes reports after One UI 8 (Android 16) in which a connected external display mirrors the Galaxy screen instead of starting DeX. Its recommended checks are:

- Restart the tablet and check for software updates.
- Check that the USB-C-to-HDMI cable or adapter is compatible and firmly connected.
- Open DeX settings and set the connected display to Extend.
- Try a different external display if the issue continues.
