Short answer: Costco’s consumer pages can help you look up an item number, description, channel-specific price and warehouse availability, but Costco’s U.S. terms restrict commercial use, collection of product listings and descriptions, and automated extraction with bots or spiders. Do not treat a publicly visible page as permission to run a scraper. For a business dataset, obtain written authorization or verify an authorized data arrangement first.

What “Costco product data” actually means
Define the record before collecting anything. A useful observation normally includes:
- Item number: Costco’s identifier when the interface displays one.
- Description: The title and relevant variant details.
- Price: The amount shown for a specific channel and location.
- Channel: Costco.com, a local warehouse lookup, or Same-Day through Instacart.
- Geography: Country, ZIP code or warehouse selected.
- Availability status: The wording shown by that channel.
- Retrieved at: Date and time, including time zone.
- Source context: URL or screen reference, membership state and any selected options.
This is a record design, not a claim that Costco offers a downloadable feed containing all these fields. Store the raw displayed value alongside your normalized value so a later reviewer can see exactly what was observed.

Read the U.S. Costco terms before collecting
The U.S. Costco “Terms and Conditions of Use” page (last updated January 28, 2023) grants a limited license for personal use. Under “License and Site Access,” it says the grant does not include “any resale or commercial use of the Sites or any Site Materials.” The same terms exclude collection and use of product listings or descriptions and prohibit data-mining, bots, spiders, automated tools and similar extraction methods.
The terms also reserve the right to change products, prices, specifications and offers without notice. Costco does not guarantee that site material, availability or prices are current, complete, reliable or error-free. Therefore, even a permitted observation is a time- and channel-specific snapshot, not a durable quote.
These statements apply to the cited U.S. site terms. Costco country sites can have different terms; check the terms for the jurisdiction and site you intend to use. Nothing here recommends bypassing a login, CAPTCHA, rate limit, robots control or other access measure.
Choose the correct Costco channel

Never merge these values into one undifferentiated “Costco price.” Keep channel, location and retrieval time as required fields. A Same-Day total can include service costs that are absent from a warehouse shelf price, while an online listing may represent a different assortment or shipping basis.

- Confirm your purpose. Personal comparison or trip planning is different from republishing a catalog, monitoring competitors or selling a data feed. If the use is commercial, pause and seek written permission or an authorized source.
- Select one channel and location. For warehouse information, use Costco’s customer-facing lookup and select the intended warehouse or ZIP code. For online research, record Costco.com separately. Do not represent Same-Day results as warehouse checkout prices.
- Search by an exact identifier. An item number is less ambiguous than a broad keyword. Record the displayed variant, size, pack count and department.
- Record the observation immediately. Save price, availability wording, channel, location and timestamp together. If an item is absent from warehouse results, record “not displayed” rather than “out of stock,” because Costco says out-of-stock items are not displayed.
- Preserve evidence without over-collecting. A private note or screenshot of a permitted personal lookup can document what you saw. Do not build an automated archive of Costco listings or defeat technical controls.
- Check again when the decision depends on freshness. Warehouse data may lag by up to 30 minutes and can change while you are traveling to the store. Treat every check as a new observation.
Designing a useful dataset
A spreadsheet or database can use columns such as item_number, description, channel, country, warehouse_or_zip, price_displayed, currency, availability_displayed, retrieved_at, membership_context and notes. Keep the original currency and formatting; normalize currency only in a separate field.
Use controlled values for channel (for example, online, warehouse_lookup and same_day) and distinguish not_displayed, unknown and available. Do not infer an inventory count from a yes/no message. Do not fill a missing warehouse result with the online price.
Why prices and availability become stale
- Channel differences: Costco’s customer guidance notes that online products may differ in price from local warehouse items. Warehouse-only promotions and shipping costs can also change the comparison.
- Lookup delay: Warehouse inventory and pricing can be delayed by up to 30 minutes.
- Omitted out-of-stock items: An item missing from warehouse results is not proof of a temporary zero quantity; Costco says out-of-stock items are not displayed.
- Changing offers: Costco’s general terms say products, prices, specifications and offers may change without notice.
- Same-Day fees: Same-Day transmits warehouse information to Instacart, where additional costs and fees are added.
For an audit trail, compare observations only when channel, location, variant and currency match. Put the timestamp beside every value in reports and label the result as an observation rather than a guaranteed current price.
Commercial projects: the safe decision path
- Describe the intended fields and use. Explain whether you need internal forecasting, a public comparison site, resale, advertising or another purpose.
- Ask Costco for written authorization. Request permission that specifically covers the channels, fields, frequency, storage and redistribution you need.
- Verify the data source. The material reviewed here does not establish that Costco offers a public bulk product-data API. Do not assume one exists because a page is searchable.
- Use only the approved interface. Follow authentication, rate, caching, retention and attribution requirements in the written arrangement.
- Keep provenance and deletion controls. Store authorization records, retrieval timestamps and a process for removing data when permission ends.
If authorization is unavailable, redesign the project around data you own, a licensed distributor feed or user-submitted observations rather than automated Costco collection.

Common mistakes and fixes
“The page is public, so scraping is allowed.”
Public visibility is not a license. Costco’s U.S. terms expressly restrict commercial use, collection of listings and automated extraction. Obtain permission or stop at manual, personal research.
“No warehouse result means out of stock.”
Costco says out-of-stock items are not displayed. Record “not displayed” and avoid an inventory conclusion.
“The warehouse price equals Same-Day.”
Same-Day uses Instacart and adds costs and fees. Keep the channels separate.
“The lookup is real time.”
Customer Service describes a possible delay of up to 30 minutes and says data is subject to change. Add a retrieval timestamp and a freshness warning.
