You can schedule recurring website screenshots with Puppeteer on an Indian hosting plan if the plan can launch a compatible Chrome or Chromium browser from a scheduled Node.js script. Set up the capture script first, test it as the same user that will run the schedule, then invoke it through the host’s cron dashboard or system cron. A cron control proves only that jobs can be scheduled—not that Puppeteer’s browser and required system libraries are available.

What you need to verify before choosing a plan

Ask your provider about the exact plan and account, rather than relying on a plan label such as “Node.js hosting.” Confirm all of the following:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Can a scheduled Node.js process launch a compatible Chrome or Chromium executable?
  • Are the browser’s required system libraries installed, and what executable path and sandbox configuration should the script use?
  • What CPU, RAM, process-count, execution-time, and concurrent-job limits apply?
  • Which directories can the scheduled account write to, including the screenshot destination and browser cache?
  • Does the scheduler use UTC or local server time, and how are failed jobs and logs exposed?

These details vary by provider, plan, and account. Hostinger’s Indian-market help pages describe dashboard scheduling for Web and Cloud users and greater process-scheduling control on VPS, but do not establish that a particular managed plan can run Puppeteer’s browser. Its guidance also notes that scheduled processes consume CPU and RAM. Check the exact runtime with the provider before building around it (Hostinger cron setup; Node.js and server capabilities).

Build a Puppeteer capture script

Puppeteer’s basic screenshot flow is to launch a browser, open a page, navigate to a URL, capture with Page.screenshot(), and close the browser. The example below uses a fixed viewport and a full-page PNG. Install Puppeteer in your project using its official installation instructions, and confirm that the browser it installs or expects can run in your hosting environment.

const puppeteer = require('puppeteer');
const path = require('path');

async function main() {
  let browser;
  try {
    browser = await puppeteer.launch({
      // Set executablePath or supported launch options only as required
      // by your host's documented Chromium setup.
    });

    const page = await browser.newPage();
    await page.setViewport({ width: 1440, height: 900 });
    await page.goto('https://example.com', {
      waitUntil: 'networkidle2',
      timeout: 60000,
    });

    const outputPath = path.resolve(__dirname, 'screenshots', 'latest.png');
    await page.screenshot({ path: outputPath, fullPage: true });
    console.log(`Saved screenshot: ${outputPath}`);
  } finally {
    if (browser) await browser.close();
  }
}

main().catch((error) => {
  console.error(error);
  process.exitCode = 1;
});

Create the screenshots directory before running this script, or change outputPath to a directory that already exists and is writable. The networkidle2 condition is a reasonable starting point, not a guarantee that every dynamic page is visually ready: some sites keep network requests open, while others render important content after network activity settles. Adjust readiness conditions for the site you capture. Puppeteer documents screenshot options and page capture behavior in its screenshots guide and Page.screenshot() API.

Choose the capture shape deliberately

  • Viewport screenshot: omit fullPage: true to capture only the configured viewport.
  • Full-page screenshot: use fullPage: true when the whole document is needed. Long pages can use more memory and produce large files.
  • Readiness: use an appropriate navigation wait condition, then add a selector wait or a deliberate delay if a site renders content after navigation.
  • Output: use an absolute or script-relative path and ensure the scheduled account can write there.

Test the script as the scheduled account

  1. Run the script manually from the hosting environment, using the same account and working directory that the scheduler will use.
  2. Confirm Chromium launches without missing-library, permission, or sandbox errors.
  3. Check that navigation completes and the screenshot contains the expected page rather than a blank or partial image.
  4. Verify that the destination directory is writable and inspect the output file’s timestamp and size.
  5. Test the exact command you intend to schedule and direct standard output and errors to a log you can inspect.

Hostinger’s cron guidance recommends testing a command before relying on the scheduled task. Its interface and command fields can vary, so use the current dashboard labels for your account (cron setup instructions).

Schedule the capture

Use the hosting dashboard’s scheduled-task interface when it is available for your plan. On a VPS, you can use the system crontab if your account has shell access. In either case, use absolute paths for Node.js and the script, set the working directory explicitly if the scheduler supports it, and write logs to a persistent, writable location.

*/30 * * * * cd /home/USER/site && /usr/bin/node /home/USER/site/capture.js >> /home/USER/site/logs/capture.log 2>&1

This example runs every 30 minutes; replace the paths, cadence, and Node executable with values from your account. Do not assume /usr/bin/node is the right path on managed hosting. If the dashboard accepts only a command field, enter the equivalent command using the paths it provides. Avoid schedules more frequent than the capture duration and resource limits permit, or jobs may overlap.

Convert Indian time when the scheduler uses UTC

Hostinger’s cited cron setup guidance says its dashboard schedules use UTC+0. For a run intended at 9:00 a.m. India Standard Time (IST, UTC+5:30), schedule 03:30 UTC. Confirm the timezone and schedule semantics shown in your own provider dashboard before saving; do not assume every Indian host uses UTC or that the setting is unchanged (Hostinger cron setup).

Check job-count limits separately from browser capability

Hostinger’s published limit page states a maximum of two cron jobs on Single hosting and unlimited cron jobs on Premium and above. These are provider- and plan-specific limits, not a guarantee that a browser process will run or an indication of its runtime allowance. Limits can change, so verify the current documentation and your account (Hostinger cron-job limits).

Choose managed Node.js hosting or a VPS

There is no universally suitable choice based only on the fact that a plan is Indian-hosted. Compare the specific runtime and operating constraints:

  • Browser control: whether you can run a compatible browser and its system libraries, and configure the documented executable and launch options.
  • Scheduler control: dashboard task entry versus shell-level crontab access.
  • Resources and limits: CPU, RAM, process limits, timeouts, and whether simultaneous runs are permitted.
  • Operations: writable output and cache paths, log access, backups, and browser updates.
  • Maintenance: managed-environment convenience versus responsibility for operating-system and browser dependencies on a VPS.

Hostinger documents managed Node.js deployment options and VPS options, but that documentation alone does not verify Puppeteer compatibility for any particular managed plan (Node.js hosting; server capabilities).

Troubleshoot common failures

Browser executable is missing or will not launch

The scheduled runtime may not have a compatible Chrome or Chromium binary, or Puppeteer may be looking in the wrong location. Check the host’s supported browser path and system-library requirements, then set the documented executable path if needed. A Node.js runtime by itself does not supply proof that the browser can launch.

Permission or sandbox errors

The scheduled process may run as a different user from your interactive shell, or the host may restrict browser process settings. Compare the scheduled and manual execution users, check writable directories and process permissions, and use only sandbox options supported by the host. Puppeteer’s troubleshooting documentation describes common launch problems and diagnostic steps (Puppeteer troubleshooting).

The screenshot is blank, partial, or missing late-loading content

Navigation may have finished before the page’s visible content was ready, or the page may require client-side rendering. Wait for a meaningful selector or a site-appropriate delay, and inspect the page’s navigation errors and log output. Full-page capture can also expose content that loads only when scrolled; validate the result rather than assuming a successful file write means the image is complete.

The task works manually but not from cron

Cron may use a different working directory, environment, Node path, permissions, or timezone. Use absolute paths, explicitly change to the project directory, log stdout and stderr, and run the command under the scheduled account. Verify the displayed schedule against the intended local time.

Runs time out, overlap, or exhaust resources

Browser processes consume CPU and memory, and scheduled processes count against the hosting account’s limits. Reduce capture frequency or concurrency, close each browser even on failure, and remove obsolete output files if storage is filling. If the plan cannot sustain the workload, use a VPS or move capture to a remote browser or screenshot service.

Performance, reliability, and storage

Browser startup and page rendering are part of every run, so leave enough interval between scheduled captures for slow pages and transient failures. Keep the finally cleanup that closes the browser, log failures with timestamps, and validate the first scheduled output before trusting recurring jobs. Monitor file growth: saving every run as a new image can consume storage quickly, while overwriting one file preserves only the latest capture. If you need history, use a retention policy appropriate to the available disk space.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server if your hosting plan cannot launch a browser. One GET request returns an image or PDF; its options include full-page capture, format and viewport choices, and waiting for a selector, a delay, or network idle. For a recurring job, call the API from a scheduler that can make HTTPS requests rather than installing Chromium on the hosting plan.

Install the HTTP client with python -m pip install requests, then run this Python example with your API key and target URL:

import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://example.com"},
    timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API parameters and response details. Cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server lets AI agents use screenshot tools. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a cron dashboard mean Puppeteer will work on my hosting plan?

No. It means the plan can schedule a command; you still need to verify browser availability, dependencies, permissions, writable paths, and resource limits for the exact account.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I schedule a screenshot at a specific India time?

Yes, if the scheduler supports the needed cadence. Check its timezone first; for Hostinger’s documented UTC+0 schedule, 9:00 a.m. IST corresponds to 03:30 UTC.
