Use browser automation to open the page, find and frame the section, and save a screenshot; use a scheduler to run that script at chosen times. Playwright can capture a section, the viewport after scrolling to it, or the full page. GitHub Actions can schedule the script, but its scheduled runs are not guaranteed to start at the exact minute.
Choose what the screenshot should show
“Screenshot of a section” can mean three different frames. Decide before writing the script because each produces a different image.

Playwright documents these screenshot options in its screenshots guide. For a scrollable container, an element screenshot shows only the container’s currently scrolled content, so scroll that container to the intended position first if necessary.
Build a repeatable Playwright capture
Install Playwright and its Chromium browser in the environment that will run the schedule. Playwright’s CI setup guide explains browser installation for automated environments. The example below uses a maintained CSS selector, waits for the section, scrolls it into view, and captures the current viewport. Replace the URL and selector with the page and section you control or are authorized to capture.

}Run it with a JavaScript runtime that supports ES modules after installing the Playwright package and browser. The viewport and device scale factor are fixed to make successive captures more comparable. The example waits for the section to be visible rather than assuming a fixed sleep is enough; if the section’s content loads later, wait for a page-specific ready condition too.
Capture only the element
Use the locator’s screenshot method when the section alone is the desired image:

Prefer a stable locator tied to an accessible role and name where practical, or a selector that the site maintains; fragile position-based selectors can silently target the wrong content after a redesign. Capture the entire page
For the whole page rather than the section or viewport, use:

If the page populates images or sections only as they approach the viewport, verify that the content you need has loaded before saving.
Improve consistency when pages change
- Keep the viewport, device scale factor, browser version, and capture mode consistent between runs.
- Wait for the actual section or a meaningful ready condition; a short arbitrary delay may be too short on a slow run and waste time on a fast one.
- For animated or frequently changing pages, consider the screenshot options available in Playwright to disable animations or mask volatile elements. Choose deliberately: suppressing page behavior can make a screenshot less representative of what a visitor sees.
- Use a stable selector and verify it still identifies the intended section after page changes.
Schedule the script with GitHub Actions
GitHub Actions scheduled workflows use POSIX cron expressions. GitHub documents a shortest schedule interval of once every five minutes, UTC as the default timezone, and an optional IANA timezone setting. Scheduled workflows run against the latest commit on the default branch. See GitHub’s schedule event documentation.

Adjust runtime and action versions to match your project’s policy. The artifact step makes the image available with the workflow run; set an appropriate retention policy for your needs and avoid putting credentials or private page content into publicly accessible artifacts.

Timing and reliability limits
- GitHub warns that schedule events can be delayed during high workflow load, particularly near the start of an hour, and queued runs may be dropped if load is sufficiently high. Scheduling at an off-minute such as :17 can reduce exposure to the busiest top-of-hour period, but does not guarantee an exact start time.
- A scheduled workflow in a public repository can be automatically disabled after 60 days without repository activity, according to GitHub’s schedule documentation.
- If a capture must meet a strict deadline, assess the scheduler’s timing guarantees, retry and alert behavior, execution environment, and artifact retention before relying on it. The cited GitHub documentation does not establish exact-time execution guarantees.
Troubleshoot missed or incorrect captures
