Google Calendar can display Google Tasks and reserve time for completing them. Create a task, give it a date, and it appears in the Tasks calendar. Add a time for a scheduled reminder; add a duration and set yourself to busy when you want a visible focus block that can protect the time from meetings.
What Google Calendar does with a scheduled task
A task without a date stays in Google Tasks and does not appear on the Calendar grid. Once you add a date, Calendar can show it as a task. A date and time schedules a notification; a date without a time uses a 9:00 AM notification, and a deadline-only task notifies at 9:00 AM local time on its deadline day.
For deeper scheduling, give the task a duration and mark yourself busy. Calendar then shows a work block, so colleagues can see that period as occupied and you can use Calendar’s focus controls to mute notifications, adjust visibility, or automatically decline meetings during the block when those controls are available on your account.
Choose the right kind of task scheduling
| Setup | What appears in Calendar | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Date only | A dated task, with a 9:00 AM notification | A deadline or day-level reminder when the exact work time is flexible |
| Date and time | A task at the chosen time, with a notification then | An appointment-like reminder for a specific start time |
| Date, time, duration and busy status | A visible work block that reserves your availability | Protected focus time for writing, studying, calls or other substantial work |
| Repeating task | Upcoming instances are added to the calendar grid as time advances | Regular chores, reviews, reports and other recurring work |
How to schedule a task
- Create it: Open Google Tasks or create a task from Google Calendar’s Tasks view.
- Add a date: Choose the day the task is due. This is the requirement for Calendar visibility.
- Add a time when needed: Set a time for a timed reminder. Leave the time blank if only the day matters.
- Set the work period: In Calendar, assign a duration when you need a block rather than a point-in-time reminder.
- Protect the block: Set your availability to busy, then choose any offered focus options such as notification muting, visibility and meeting auto-decline.
- Finish the task: Mark it complete in Calendar, Google Tasks or a supported wearable. Calendar can hide completed tasks if you prefer a cleaner view.
Make tasks visible in Calendar
In Calendar, turn on the Tasks calendar in the calendar list. If it is hidden, dated tasks still exist but will not be shown on the grid. You can edit a task’s due date from Calendar, mark it complete there, and review pending tasks from the previous 365 days on Android.

On Android, Google states that only tasks with a date appear in Calendar. Check both the task’s date and the Tasks calendar visibility before troubleshooting anything more complicated.
Control reminders and interruptions
A date and time creates a notification at the scheduled time. A date without a time defaults to 9:00 AM; deadline-only tasks use 9:00 AM local time on the deadline date. Calendar’s task and focus settings let you decide whether the task is visible, whether notifications are muted during protected work, and whether meetings are automatically declined. The exact controls can vary by account, platform and release track.
Recurring tasks and completion
When you make a task repeat, Google Calendar adds its upcoming occurrences automatically as the schedule advances. Completing one occurrence does not require manually recreating the next one. You can complete the current task from Calendar or Tasks, and supported watches can also provide a completion action.

If a Google Task is missing from Calendar
- Confirm that the task has a due date; undated tasks are not Calendar items.
- Turn on the Tasks calendar in Calendar’s calendar list.
- Check that you are viewing the account where the task was created.
- For a task you expected to be a focus block, verify that it has a time and duration; a date-only task is not a reserved time block.
- Refresh the app and check the task’s date, time and repeat settings. On Android, completed tasks can be hidden by the completed-task display setting.
Do you need a smartwatch or Google Workspace subscription?
No smartwatch is required. Wearables are optional ways to view or complete work: Google’s September 3, 2025 announcement added Calendar access on Apple Watch, while Wear OS users can scroll their schedule, RSVP to events and mark tasks complete.
The core workflow—creating a task, adding a date or time and seeing it in Calendar—is presented as part of Google’s Calendar and Tasks integration. Account, platform and release-track differences can affect when particular controls appear. Google Workspace plans may add premium team or organization features, but they are not a prerequisite for ordinary personal task scheduling.
A practical way to plan a day
Use deadlines for flexible work
Give a task a date but no time when it must be finished that day and you want to choose the working moment later.
Use timed blocks for focused work
Add a start time, duration and busy status when the task needs protected attention. Apply the focus controls that fit your meeting and notification habits.
Use repeating tasks for routines
Set a recurrence for work that returns on a predictable schedule, then complete each occurrence from whichever supported device is convenient.
The Bottom Line
To schedule a task in Google Calendar, create it in Google Tasks or Calendar and add a date. Add a time for a reminder; add duration and busy status to reserve a work block. A smartwatch is optional, and ordinary task scheduling does not require a Google Workspace subscription.
