To schedule screenshots of an Indian university admission page, monitor the official university or counselling portal with a hosted website monitor, or automate browser captures with Playwright and run them on a separate scheduler. First decide whether you need an image saved at every check or only an alert when the page changes; those are different workflows, and you should verify a service’s image retention and export options before relying on it as an archive.
Choose the official page to monitor
Start with the university, institution, or centralized counselling authority’s own website. Look for pages labelled schedule, admissions, counselling, notices, or important dates. Admission information is authority-specific, and notices may be revised, so check the live official page rather than relying on an old screenshot or a third-party summary.

Examples of official 2026-cycle pages include the JoSAA 2026 site, NIFT Admissions Schedule 2026, and GGSIPU’s schedule and notices portal. They are examples, not a complete directory, and their cycle-specific contents may change. JoSAA describes its 2026–27 remit as managing and regulating joint seat allocation for 138 institutes; that is not a count of all Indian universities.
Record the exact page and section
- Save the URL of the official schedule or notice page, not just the institution homepage.
- If the schedule is embedded in a larger page, choose a region-specific monitor if the service supports one. This helps avoid alerts for unrelated page changes.
- For notices published as PDFs, confirm that the monitor can detect changes to the linked file or monitor the official notices list where the new PDF appears.
- Keep the institution name, page URL, and last-checked date with your monitoring setup so you can verify an alert against the right authority.
Decide what “scheduled screenshots” means
There are two different goals: saving a screenshot at every scheduled time, or checking the page periodically and getting notified only when a change is detected. A change-monitoring service may compare captures without preserving a permanent image for every run. Before setup, verify the specific service and plan’s run history, image retention, export, and notification behavior if you need an audit trail.

Option 1: Use a hosted website monitor
A hosted monitor is usually the simplest route if you want recurring checks without leaving your computer running. This is the vendor’s description of its service. Distill documents recurring interval and cron-style checks. Available documentation does not establish a like-for-like comparison of plan limits, retention, or pricing, so confirm those details for the service and plan you choose.
- Create a monitor using the official admissions or counselling URL.
- Select the whole page or the schedule/notices region, if region selection is offered.
- Set a recurring interval or schedule appropriate to the admission cycle. Increase checking frequency only when more frequent updates are useful and supported by your chosen service.
- Choose the alert channel and review how the service presents a detected change.
- Confirm whether it stores a screenshot for every check or only provides images or comparisons for detected changes. Test an export or download before you need a permanent archive.
- Check the monitor after setup to ensure it is reading the intended page and that alerts reach you.

Option 2: Capture screenshots yourself with Playwright
DIY automation gives you control over the browser run, filenames, and storage, but Playwright’s screenshot and visual-comparison documentation does not itself provide a recurring scheduler. You must configure a separate scheduler and decide where screenshots and run logs will be kept.

A page that continuously polls or loads third-party resources may not reach a useful network-idle state; if that happens, use an explicit wait for a relevant selector or a deliberate short delay, and retain a timeout so a failed page does not hang the scheduled job.
Schedule the script and retain its output
Run the script from a scheduler outside Playwright, such as your operating system’s task scheduler or a hosted job runner. Configure the scheduler’s time zone deliberately, especially if the capture time is meant to follow Indian Standard Time (IST). Use dated filenames or a database/object-storage key that records the URL and run time. Add logging for the run start, page load result, output path, and errors; define a retention policy so repeated captures do not fill the machine or storage bucket.

For change detection, keep a baseline image and compare new captures against it with a visual-diff process. Review differences rather than treating every pixel change as an admissions update: rotating banners, timestamps, font rendering, or dynamic widgets can produce noise. Playwright documents screenshot assertions and visual comparisons, but the recurring schedule, archive, and alert delivery remain your responsibility.

Configure timing, storage, and alerts responsibly
Choose a useful cadence
Use a check interval that suits the admission cycle and the monitor’s available scheduling controls. The sources do not establish a universally best frequency for Indian admissions pages. A schedule page may change infrequently, while a deadline period can warrant closer attention. Do not assume that a product’s listed interval means a capture will finish at an exact second; check its documented scheduling behavior.

- Store captures with timestamps and the page URL; preserve the original downloaded image where auditability matters.
- Retain the change notification or run log alongside the image, so you can tell whether a file came from a scheduled run or a manual check.
- Use screenshots as a record of what your monitor displayed, not as a substitute for the current official notice. Open the official portal to confirm any date or requirement before acting.
- Limit access to stored captures if they include personal information, application identifiers, or other sensitive page content.
Test notification and recovery paths
Trigger or observe a test change on a non-critical page before depending on the setup. Confirm delivery to the intended email, app, or webhook; make sure failures are visible in logs; and decide how you will be notified if the monitor itself stops running. For a DIY workflow, test what happens when the site times out, returns an error, or changes its layout.
