Use an authorized, narrowly scoped browser workflow: capture only the necessary page area, mask known customer-specific fields before the image is saved, and protect screenshots, logs, traces, and alerts as sensitive data. First confirm that the portal and account permit automation. A screenshot mask can reduce exposure, but it cannot prove every sensitive field has been found.
Confirm that the capture is authorized
Before automating sign-in or taking screenshots, identify the portal owner, the organization responsible for the account and data, the capture purpose, who may receive the output, and the portal’s terms. If you cannot establish authorization, pause and obtain approval. The insurer and portal are unspecified here, so permission, authentication compatibility, and the applicable obligations cannot be assumed.

This caution matters because insurance records can be available electronically. IRDAI explains that policyholders can hold policies in electronic form and access policy details through an online repository portal: IRDAI insurers and repositories. That does not establish which fields a particular insurer’s page displays.
IRDAI’s published guidelines index lists “Guidelines on Information and Cyber Security” dated 2 September 2022. Consult the underlying instrument and subsequent updates for requirements relevant to your organization: IRDAI guidelines index. That summary is not a substitute for checking statutory text, commencement provisions, applicability, and later changes. Determine the obligations for the particular organization and processing rather than treating a general workflow as legal advice.

Choose the least exposing way to get the record
Prefer a sanitized source or report
If the need is to track a status or page change, ask whether an approved report, purpose-built view, or synthetic demo account can provide it without showing customer fields. Removing unnecessary data at the source avoids creating a raw screenshot that must later be secured or redacted.
If a screenshot is necessary, narrow its scope
Capture the relevant element or viewport instead of the whole page where feasible. Decide which fields are necessary, omit the rest, and identify the customer-specific values that must be concealed. Include dynamic content and nested frames in that review: a field can move, appear later, or be rendered somewhere other than the main page.

Avoid relying on post-processing alone
Taking a raw screenshot and redacting it afterward creates an unredacted image first. If browser capture is required, mask known fields in the capture operation before writing the output. This still only covers fields your selectors identify; it is not a guarantee of complete redaction.

Playwright’s official Page API documents screenshot options for masking selected locators with an overlay and applying a stylesheet during capture. Its locator guidance includes role, text, label, placeholder, and test-id locators. These capabilities provide a way to implement capture-time masking, but do not establish that Playwright is approved or compatible with a particular insurer’s portal, supply a scheduler, or prove legal compliance. The following TypeScript example illustrates the capture pattern. Replace the URL and selectors only after the portal owner has approved the workflow and you have verified the selectors against a permitted test account. Do not put real credentials in source code. Authentication setup is intentionally omitted because the correct method depends on the portal and your organization’s approved credential controls.

Do not bypass a portal’s access controls or automate authentication unless the account owner and portal terms allow it. Use the smallest page region that answers the monitoring question. A stylesheet can suppress known regions, while locator masks cover selected elements; neither method discovers unknown sensitive data for you.

Make selectors resilient, then validate them
- Prefer selectors based on an approved test contract or stable accessible labels over brittle positional selectors.
- Check that each locator finds the intended field and does not mask a different element after a layout change.
- Review how the page renders delayed values, empty states, session expiry, errors, and content in frames before enabling unattended capture.
- Do not keep unredacted debug screenshots or intermediate image buffers as a troubleshooting shortcut.
Schedule and operate the job safely
Playwright documents screenshot behavior, not a particular scheduler, secret-management system, or deployment design. Run the approved script through your organization’s managed scheduler or workflow. Keep its permissions limited to the required account and output location; use the approved secret-management method for credentials; and configure failure alerts without attaching sensitive screenshots.
- Run a supervised test. Use an approved test account or other authorized environment. Inspect captures for the normal page, an error, an empty result, and an expired session.
- Set the schedule and ownership. Use the organization’s approved scheduler, specify who owns failures and selector changes, and alert only with information needed to diagnose the job.
- Restrict outputs and by-products. Store images only in an approved location, limit access to intended recipients, and apply organizational controls for storage and transfer.
- Set and enforce retention. Define a purpose-based period for screenshots and review logs, traces, filenames, and notifications as part of the same data lifecycle.
- Recheck after change. Review representative output after portal redesigns, selector changes, or changes to the capture workflow.
An older IRDAI-hosted insurance document describes safeguards for privacy and against unauthorized access, alteration, destruction, disclosure, or dissemination of data. Does masking guarantee that no customer data appears in a screenshot?
No. It only masks elements selected by the workflow. A changed layout, missed selector, or content elsewhere on the page can leave information visible, so inspect representative outputs.
