A browser may retain authenticated cookies or headers that can function like login credentials, and a bank may require interactive checks or prohibit automation. Separate screenshot scheduling from bank authentication
A scheduled task can launch a browser script at set times, and browser automation can capture a viewport, an element, or a full page. Those capabilities do not establish that a bank permits automated login or that a script can reliably complete its authentication flow. The sensitive part is not just entering a password. A browser session may retain cookies and headers that allow someone to impersonate the signed-in user. Playwright explicitly warns that an authentication-state file may contain sensitive cookies and headers; keeping such a file out of source control is prudent, but does not make it safe to store or use for banking. Check safer, bank-supported ways to get the information
If your goal is a periodic record or a view of account activity, look for a statement, transaction export, or account alert provided through the bank’s own verified website or app. These channels may meet the need without creating a recurring automated session. Their availability and terms depend on the bank.
RBI consumer guidance says to use the bank’s verified URL, not store login credentials on a phone, and not enter them on untrusted portals or service providers. It also warns never to share internet banking IDs, passwords, or OTPs. RBI’s digital banking safety guidance similarly advises against sharing passwords, PINs, OTPs, CVVs, or UPI PINs, and recommends using verified, secure, trusted websites for banking: RBI Financial Awareness Messages and RBI digital banking safety guidance.
Ask your bank before automating a signed-in session
- Read the bank’s official terms. Look for restrictions on automated access, scripts, or unattended sessions.
- Ask the bank’s official support channel. Explain what you want to capture and how often, and ask whether that access method is allowed.
- Expect bank-specific authentication. A particular bank may require an OTP, CAPTCHA, device registration, or another interactive check. The available guidance does not establish what any named bank requires or permits.
- Do not bypass a control. If an authentication check interrupts the run, stop and use a bank-approved process rather than attempting to defeat it.
What a safe public-page screenshot example can show

Protect screenshots and diagnose ordinary capture failures
A screenshot of a signed-in banking page can expose account identifiers, balances, transactions, and personal information. Restrict access to captured images and avoid sending them to unverified services.
- No image appears: On a public test page, confirm that the script runs under the same user and working directory as the scheduler, and that the destination directory is writable.
- Navigation times out: Check that the test page is reachable from the scheduled machine and that the timeout is appropriate for that public-page capture. Do not use retries to work around a bank’s authentication controls.
- The bank prompts for verification: Stop the automation and follow the bank’s official instructions. Do not bypass OTP, CAPTCHA, or device checks.
- The capture contains more information than intended: Do not distribute it; limit access to the file and remove copies you do not need.
