To do that, schedule the YouTube event in Studio and use an encoder or other verified automation system to build and change the feed. YouTube’s ordinary playlists organize videos on the channel; they do not control what an encoder sends to a live stream.
How the scheduling pieces fit together
Think of this as two schedules that have to work together:

- YouTube’s event schedule: In YouTube Studio, you create or schedule a livestream event, set its details, and connect a feed to it.
- Your feed schedule: An encoder or separate automation system selects the videos, assembles the playlist blocks, and sends the continuous feed to YouTube.
Scheduling an event in Studio does not, by itself, make one video playlist play in the morning and another in the evening. Nor does creating ordinary YouTube playlists tell a live encoder when to change content. The rotation must be handled outside that native event-scheduling workflow.
Check channel eligibility first
Before building the rotation, confirm the channel can livestream. YouTube’s stated prerequisites include a verified channel with no livestream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also states that livestreamers must be at least 16 years old. Check the current eligibility guidance in YouTube Studio, since the channel’s own status determines whether it can go live.

Build and test the playlist rotation
Choose an encoder or other automation system that can assemble the sequence you want and send it as a live feed. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the connection workflow, but does not establish a particular rotation product or configuration. Verify that any software you choose supports your desired schedule and output before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.
Decide what the schedule means
Write down the intended rotation before configuring anything. For example, decide which playlist or program block should run at each part of the day, whether the sequence repeats, and what should happen when a video ends or is unavailable. These are decisions for the automation system, not settings established by YouTube Studio’s event scheduler.

Check transitions, recovery, and rights
Test whether the system transitions cleanly between items, restarts the sequence as intended, and recovers if the feed disconnects. Also confirm you have the necessary rights for every video and audio item you broadcast. A playlist’s presence on YouTube does not itself establish that you have permission to rebroadcast its contents.
Schedule the YouTube live event and connect the feed
- Open the Live Control Room: In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live. In the Live Control Room, open Manage and choose Schedule Stream.
- Create or reuse an event: Choose to create a new stream or reuse settings, then enter the event details and schedule. Reusing settings can reduce setup work when you have a recurring format, but it does not automate playlist rotation.
- Copy the connection details: Get the stream URL and stream key for the event from YouTube Studio. Treat the key as a secret: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to the stream.
- Configure the encoder: Paste the YouTube stream URL and key into the encoder’s stream settings, then set up the playlist rotation in the encoder or automation system. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe copying the key into the encoder’s Stream settings.
- Start the feed and check the preview: Start the encoder output and wait for the feed to appear in the Live Control Room. Check that the expected video and audio are present before selecting Go live when ready.
- Verify the running rotation: Watch the initial transitions and confirm that the next scheduled playlist or block starts when expected. Continue monitoring according to the recovery and oversight capabilities of the system you selected.
Tell viewers when the programming changes
Publish the recurring schedule in a place viewers can find, and communicate changes when the lineup shifts. YouTube’s guidance recommends sharing a livestream schedule; an upcoming scheduled event may also let viewers opt in to reminders. Keep the event’s stated start time aligned with your actual feed plan.

Plan for archives and rewind limits
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Its DVR guidance warns that rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. These statements do not establish that 12 hours is the maximum permitted livestream duration, and they are not a promise of a complete archive or rewind for a 24/7 broadcast.
If viewers need to catch up on particular programs, plan a separate archive experience rather than assuming the continuous broadcast will provide a complete replay. YouTube allows archives to be organized into playlists after a stream; that is an organization step for recorded streams, not a way to schedule the live feed’s playlist rotation.

Troubleshoot common scheduling problems
- The event is scheduled, but no video appears: Scheduling an event does not supply a feed. Check that the encoder is running and that it has the correct stream URL and key for that event.
- The encoder preview does not appear: Check the encoder’s connection settings and confirm it is sending to the intended YouTube event. If you changed or reused event settings, verify that the key and URL in the encoder still match the selected stream.
- The wrong playlist plays, or the rotation does not change: Review the schedule in the automation system. YouTube Studio’s event schedule does not set playlist order or transition times.
- The stream stops after a disconnect: Determine whether the encoder or automation system reconnects and resumes the intended sequence. Do not assume that YouTube’s event scheduling alone restarts a lost feed.
- Viewers cannot rewind or find a full replay: A stream longer than 12 hours may have limited or unavailable DVR rewind, and the cited guidance does not promise a complete archive for a 24/7 stream. Use a separate catch-up plan if replay access is important.
- A stream is unavailable to start: Recheck channel verification and livestream eligibility, including whether the channel has had a livestream restriction in the prior 90 days and whether the streamer meets YouTube’s stated minimum age.
