Use a browser automation tool to capture the product page, then use a scheduler to run that browser job once a day. Playwright can save a viewport, full-page, or selected-element screenshot; GitHub Actions is a straightforward scheduler for a small recurring job, while AWS CloudWatch Synthetics is a managed canary option. Before scheduling repeated visits, check the retailer’s current terms and technical restrictions: no particular Indian retailer or permission status is established here.
What you need to decide first
A scheduler triggers the work; browser automation performs the capture. First choose the exact product URL and the part of the page you need to record. That choice affects the Playwright call, image dimensions, file size, and how useful day-to-day comparisons will be.

- Viewport: captures what is visible in the browser window. Choose this for a compact record of the price and key product details visible without scrolling.
- Full page: captures the scrollable page as one tall image. Playwright describes this as a capture “as if you had a very tall screen and the page could fit it entirely.” It can be useful when relevant details extend below the fold, but the image may be much taller and page content may change while loading.
- Element: captures a chosen page element, such as a product image or price panel. This keeps the output focused, but depends on selecting an element that remains identifiable in the page’s HTML.
For comparisons over time, keep the browser viewport, capture scope, and other conditions consistent. A changed viewport or capture area can make images look different even when the product listing has not changed.

The example below uses Node.js and Playwright. It opens one product URL, waits for a page element you choose, captures the page, and writes a date-based PNG filename. The selector and timeout are implementation choices: use a selector that signals the relevant product content is ready, rather than assuming every retailer loads at the same speed or structure.

Install the browser automation dependency
- Install a current Node.js release on the machine that will run the job.
- In a project directory, run
npm init -y. - Install Playwright with
npm install playwright, then install its Chromium browser withnpx playwright install chromium. - Save the following as
capture.mjs. SetPRODUCT_URLto the product page andREADY_SELECTORto a selector that appears when the information you need is ready.
import { chromium } from 'playwright';
import { mkdir } from 'node:fs/promises';
const url = process.env.PRODUCT_URL;
const readySelector = process.env.READY_SELECTOR || 'body';
if (!url) throw new Error('Set PRODUCT_URL to the product page URL');
const browser = await chromium.launch({ headless: true });
try {
const page = await browser.newPage({
viewport: { width: 1365, height: 900 },
deviceScaleFactor: 1
});
await page.goto(url, { waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded', timeout: 60000 });
await page.locator(readySelector).waitFor({ state: 'visible', timeout: 30000 });
await mkdir('screenshots', { recursive: true });
const date = new Date().toISOString().slice(0, 10);
await page.screenshot({
path: `screenshots/product-${date}.png`,
fullPage: true
});
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
Run it locally to confirm that the URL is reachable and the selected content is captured: PRODUCT_URL='https://example.com/product' READY_SELECTOR='h1' node capture.mjs. Replace both example values with the actual page URL and a selector present on that page. For a visible-window capture, remove fullPage: true. For an element capture, locate the target element and call locator.screenshot({ path: ... }) instead of page.screenshot().
Choose a wait that matches the page
domcontentloaded waits for the initial document, not necessarily for client-rendered prices, image downloads, or delayed recommendations. The selector wait is intended to hold the capture until a relevant element is visible. If the page updates that element after it first appears, wait for a more specific ready condition or a suitable short delay. Avoid relying on a fixed delay as the only readiness check when page load times vary.

Run the capture once a day with GitHub Actions
GitHub Actions can trigger a workflow with a cron schedule. Scheduled workflows run in UTC by default; GitHub also documents optional IANA timezone scheduling. The example below uses India Standard Time, Asia/Kolkata, and schedules for 9:00 a.m. local time each day. If your workflow syntax or account configuration does not accept the timezone field, express the schedule in UTC instead: 9:00 a.m. IST is 03:30 UTC.
Add the workflow
- Commit
capture.mjsandpackage.jsonto a GitHub repository. - Create
.github/workflows/daily-screenshot.yml. - Replace the example URL and selector with your product page and readiness selector. Check that the selector is valid for the page.
- Commit and push the workflow. Use the Actions tab to inspect the first run and its artifact.

The artifact retention value in this example is a workflow setting, not a universal archive policy. Choose a retention period appropriate to your needs and check the storage limits and retention behavior available to your GitHub plan. If you need a durable history, send the files to storage you control rather than assuming a scheduler keeps them indefinitely.

Timing and missed-run limits
GitHub warns that scheduled workflow runs can be delayed during periods of high load, particularly near the start of an hour, and that queued runs may be dropped under sufficiently high load. A daily cron is therefore suitable when a roughly daily record is enough, not when a screenshot must occur at an exact minute. Choose a scheduler based on its documented timing behavior if exact-time capture or guaranteed execution matters.
Consider AWS CloudWatch Synthetics for a managed canary
If you already operate in AWS and want a managed browser-monitoring workflow, CloudWatch Synthetics can schedule canaries. AWS documents browser automation support in Node.js and Python runtimes, cron and rate expressions, and screenshot storage. Its sample code shows navigating to a page and saving a screenshot. Review the current AWS configuration and pricing for your region and setup before adopting it; the available information here does not establish a cost comparison or equivalent execution guarantee against GitHub Actions.

CloudWatch Synthetics is a scheduler and monitoring service choice, not a reason to skip defining capture scope, readiness, and retention. Decide where the images should live and how long they should be useful; the scheduler alone does not set a universal archival policy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsOperational checks before relying on the record
- Retailer rules and access: check the chosen retailer’s current terms and technical restrictions before running automated visits. Permission for an unspecified store and use cannot be assumed.
- Stable capture conditions: keep viewport dimensions, browser settings, and full-page versus element capture unchanged between scheduled runs if you plan to compare images.
- Readiness and changing content: choose a page-specific selector for the relevant product details. Prices, stock indicators, and promotional banners may update independently, so a visible page shell does not prove that every value has loaded.
- Retention: set an explicit retention period in the storage destination and consider whether you need longer-term archival. Confirm the storage service’s current limits and costs.
- Monitoring: inspect workflow results and captured files after setup; a schedule firing successfully does not guarantee that the page content was available or that the screenshot shows the intended element.
Troubleshooting common failures
The workflow runs but no screenshot appears
Check the action logs for navigation, selector, or browser-install failures. Confirm that the script writes to screenshots/ and that the artifact upload path matches. The example makes a missing artifact fail the upload step rather than silently succeeding.

The readiness wait times out
The selector may not exist on that product page, may differ by locale or consent state, or may appear only after additional interaction. Inspect the page locally, choose a selector for content that actually appears, and verify the run with the same URL and browser conditions. Do not simply increase the timeout without checking whether the selector is correct.
The screenshot shows a loading state or incomplete product details
domcontentloaded only establishes that the initial document was parsed. Wait for the price, product title, or other relevant element, and add a page-specific condition if that element is populated asynchronously. Recheck whether the retailer presents a consent step, sign-in wall, bot check, or other restriction; do not try to bypass access controls.
The job runs at an unexpected time or appears to miss a day
Verify the cron expression and timezone in the workflow, including whether the configured timezone is being honored. GitHub documents UTC as the default and warns that scheduled work can be delayed or dropped under load. For exact timing, choose another scheduler with guarantees suited to the need.
