To schedule a live stream in Wowza Video, open the stream’s details page and use Schedules to add a one-time or recurring schedule. For a simpler future start, choose Go live later. During the broadcast, check Stream Health on the details page for incoming-source and transcoding data; after the event, review historical health sessions and Analytics for audience and delivery context.

Schedule an existing live stream
On an existing stream, the Schedules tab on its live-stream details page shows schedules created with the stream and lets you add more. Wowza documents one-time and recurring schedules. For one-time schedules, select the time zone the schedule should follow rather than assuming it uses your computer’s or viewers’ local time. See Wowza’s live-stream details documentation.

- Open the intended live stream’s details page in Wowza Video.
- Open Schedules.
- Add a one-time start and stop, a one-time start or stop, or a recurring schedule, as appropriate.
- For a one-time schedule, choose the intended Time zone and set the start and/or stop time.
- For a recurring schedule, choose the days of the week and when the recurrence begins and ends. Review the resulting schedule before relying on it to control a live event.

Use this when the stream has a defined event window and should start and stop on particular dates and times.

One-time start or stop
Use a single scheduled action when only the start or only the stop needs automation.
Recurring schedule
Use this for a stream that follows a repeated weekly pattern. Set both the days and the period during which the recurrence is effective; recurring does not mean indefinite unless the schedule’s end setting makes it so.

Schedule a future start with “Go live later”
For a straightforward future start, Wowza Video’s Go live later option schedules the stream to start on a future day and time. It is a start-focused workflow; use the Schedules controls when you need a stop time or repeating schedule as well. Wowza’s live-stream overview describes Go live later.

If you manage streams programmatically, the Wowza Video REST API supports schedules that start and/or stop a live stream or transcoder once or repeatedly. The API reference documents operations to create, list or retrieve, update, enable, disable, inspect state, and delete schedules. Choose API automation when schedule creation or lifecycle management needs to be integrated into your own workflow; the documentation does not establish that it is preferable for every account or use case. Consult the Wowza Video REST API reference for the current endpoints and request details.

Monitor a stream while it is live
Open the live-stream details page and use its real-time preview, statistics, and Stream Health view. Wowza says the current details-page statistics refresh every 10 seconds. Stream Health graphs source-connection and transcoding information, including actual inbound bitrate, frame rate, keyframe interval, and frame size. Inbound bitrate is what is actually arriving from the source; it can differ from the bitrate configured in your encoder. The current details-page documentation covers these metrics.
Read the metrics as diagnostics
- Connection: Check whether the source is connected when the stream should be sending video.
- Inbound bitrate: Compare the actual incoming rate with your expected encoder output; a configured target is not proof that the source is delivering that rate.
- Frame size and frame rate: Check whether the incoming video matches the format you intended to send.
- Keyframe interval: Inspect the actual interval when diagnosing source or transcoding behavior.
- Preview and delivery indicators: Use them alongside source metrics to distinguish an incoming-source issue from later stream processing or delivery symptoms.
Health graphs are useful evidence, not a frame-by-frame record of every interruption. Wowza’s legacy health guidance warns that brief irregularities may not register between refreshes. Treat a clean graph as an indication of what the monitoring view captured, not proof that no short glitch occurred. Current stream details documentation.

Account-level Monitor page
Wowza’s Monitor page documentation describes an at-a-glance view for up to three active streams, with inbound connection status, actual inbound bitrate, frame size, frame rate, keyframe interval, unique-viewer counts, and links to individual health views. Updates pause while the page is out of focus and resume when it regains focus. This page is marked legacy, so check the current account for the exact navigation and labels rather than assuming older instructions match today’s interface. Monitor page documentation.
Review health and audience data after the event
Historical Stream Health sessions
On the live-stream details page, select a health session by its start time and duration; date and time filters can narrow the selection. Wowza’s current documentation says sessions for a stream are available for the last 90 days. Review the recorded inbound bitrate, frame rate, keyframe interval, and frame-size behavior to investigate source or processing conditions during the event. See the current details-page guide.

Analytics for audience and delivery context
Analytics is separate from Stream Health: it adds audience and delivery perspectives, with viewer, device, rendition, country, and popularity information and CSV export. The current Analytics documentation says the page auto-updates every 60 seconds. It also explains that unique-viewer counts depend on identifiers such as IP address and user agent, so “unique viewers” should not automatically be treated as equivalent across products or reports.
