A YouTube playlist does not schedule or broadcast itself as a livestream. To show prerecorded playlist content as a live event, schedule a livestream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and send it a feed from an encoder. If you want a shared watch event for one uploaded video, use a Premiere instead; if viewers only need a video published at a set time, schedule the upload.
Choose the right YouTube format
| Format | What viewers get | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled video | A regular uploaded video published at a chosen time. | Schedule the upload in YouTube Studio. YouTube says the publication date shown on the watch page is based on Pacific Standard Time, so it can differ from Studio’s date for schedules set ahead of PST. YouTube Help: schedule video publishing |
| Premiere | A shared, scheduled viewing of one new uploaded video, with a public watch page where viewers can set reminders and chat. | Set the uploaded video as a Premiere for a later date and time. After the event it remains a regular upload. This is not an always-on playlist livestream. YouTube Help: create a Premiere |
| Encoder-fed livestream | A live event carrying a continuous feed of prerecorded content. | Schedule the event in Live Control Room, connect an encoder using the stream URL and key, then start the feed and go live. A playlist by itself is not the broadcast. YouTube Help: schedule a livestream · YouTube Help: encoder setup |
Plan the holiday date and time
First establish which holiday matters to your audience. Indian public holidays can vary by state and by institution, employer, school, or community. Check an authoritative calendar for the relevant year and jurisdiction before announcing a date; there is no single date list that can safely be assumed to apply to every intended audience.

Choose a time that suits the viewers you want to reach, and state the time zone in every promotion. YouTube for Artists lists holidays among possible occasions for a livestream and recommends maintaining a consistent streaming schedule, but does not identify a best holiday or hour. Its audience context is broad: it reported that over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025; that figure is not specific to India or holiday viewing. Schedule a playlist-based livestream
- Prepare the content and choose the format. For multiple prerecorded videos sent as one live feed, prepare them in the order you want and use an encoder that can send that feed. YouTube’s playlist help describes creating and managing a collection; it does not say that playing a playlist schedules a livestream. YouTube Help: create and manage playlists
- Schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, select Manage, then Schedule Stream. Enter the event details and verify the displayed date, local time, visibility, title, and audience settings before saving. YouTube’s guidance does not specify the time-zone semantics of this particular scheduling field, so check the resulting date and time in Studio rather than assuming how it converts.
- Connect your encoder. Get the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room and enter them in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a credential: it tells the encoder where to send your feed, so do not share or publish it. YouTube Help: schedule a livestream
- Rehearse and inspect the preview. Start a test feed early enough to resolve issues, then check the Live Control Room preview before the event. YouTube recommends testing the setup and reviewing the preview. YouTube Help: encoder setup
- Promote the watch page. Share the scheduled event page in advance so viewers can find it and use available reminders. Include the time zone, especially if the audience spans regions or the event is near midnight.
- Start the feed at the event time. Start the encoder, confirm the incoming feed appears in Live Control Room, and use its preview and go-live controls to begin the broadcast.
Check the event before promoting it
- Confirm the holiday date against the calendar that applies to your target audience and year.
- Check the date and time shown in Studio after scheduling; do not assume a scheduled upload’s watch-page date follows the same display behavior as a livestream event.
- Make sure the encoder has the correct event’s stream URL and private stream key.
- Test that the intended playlist material is playing in sequence and that the preview shows the expected feed.
- Use content you have the right to broadcast. A public holiday does not grant permission to use copyrighted songs, recordings, or video; review YouTube’s rules and the rights for each item before streaming.
Troubleshooting
| What happens | What to check |
|---|---|
| The playlist is not appearing as a livestream. | A playlist is a collection, not a scheduled live broadcast. Create a Live Control Room event and send it an encoder feed. |
| The encoder does not connect. | Verify that you copied the stream URL and key for the scheduled event, entered them correctly in the encoder, and started the feed. Keep the key private. |
| The preview is blank or shows the wrong material. | Check the encoder’s selected source and playback order, then rehearse again and confirm the expected feed in Live Control Room before going live. |
| The event appears on an unexpected calendar date. | Recheck the date and time shown in Studio and the time zone stated in your promotion. For scheduled uploads, YouTube documents a Pacific Standard Time basis for the watch-page publication date, which can differ from Studio for schedules ahead of PST. |
| Viewers cannot find the event beforehand. | Confirm that the stream is scheduled and share its event watch page; scheduling supports advance discovery and reminders where available. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube playlist stream that should keep running without a home computer, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
