Use Streamlabs Desktop’s Stream Scheduler to schedule a YouTube livestream event, then connect an encoder and send a feed when it is time to go live. That is different from scheduling a playlist of prerecorded videos to play automatically: Streamlabs’ scheduling guide documents event creation, not unattended playlist playback.
What Streamlabs Desktop scheduling does
Streamlabs Desktop’s Stream Scheduler creates a YouTube event in advance. You enter an event time and details such as title and description, with options for a thumbnail, category, and privacy where available. The scheduler creates the event; it does not, by itself, start an encoder or supply video content.

Streamlabs’ guide, “How to Schedule a Live Stream on YouTube,” was published September 24, 2021 and last updated January 31, 2024. It says events can be scheduled months in advance, but the interface and account availability can change, so confirm the controls shown in your current installation.

- Open Streamlabs Desktop and find Stream Scheduler. Start a new YouTube event and choose the date and time you intend to broadcast.
- Enter the event details. Add the title and description. Set a thumbnail, category, and privacy option if those controls appear in the scheduler.
- Save the event, then verify it in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live → Manage. Confirm that the scheduled event is on the intended channel and has the right time and visibility.
- Connect Streamlabs to the right channel and event. If you connect as an encoder, use the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Check that you selected the event you scheduled rather than creating or connecting to a different broadcast.
- Start the encoder before broadcast time. YouTube’s encoder instructions say to start the encoder, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, and then click Go live. Scheduling the event alone does not transmit a feed.
Schedule through YouTube Studio instead
You can create the event in YouTube’s own controls if you prefer to manage scheduling there: YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream. You can create a new stream or reuse settings from a previous one. Streamlabs can still be used as the encoder; the key is to make sure it sends video to the event you intend to broadcast.

Either route schedules the watch page and event time, not the playback of a sequence of video files. YouTube says scheduled streams may appear as upcoming in subscriber feeds, where viewers can use Notify me.
Prepare the encoder and protect the stream key
Allow time to test
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event, starting it at least 15 minutes before the event, and checking the preview before going live. Use that lead time to confirm that the correct scene, audio, and video are reaching the expected event. The preview appearing is not the same as the broadcast being live; follow YouTube’s prompt to start the event.

Treat the stream key like a password
A stream key lets an encoder send a feed to your channel. Keep it private and do not paste it into a public chat, screenshot, or shared document. If you think it has been exposed, YouTube allows channel owners or managers to reset it; update Streamlabs with the replacement key before the next broadcast, or the encoder will continue using the invalidated one.

A YouTube playlist and a scheduled livestream event are separate things. The Streamlabs scheduling guide does not document a control for queuing prerecorded videos and playing them automatically as a live broadcast. Streamlabs Media Share is also different: its documentation describes viewer-requested videos, not an unattended playlist scheduler. Do not assume that creating an event will start or loop videos.

If your goal is a continuous stream of uploaded videos, you need a playback-and-streaming method that actually sends those videos as the live feed. Check that you have the necessary rights to stream every video and its audio. Scheduling or looping does not grant permission, and repeated or reused material can raise copyright or monetization issues; make sure the content complies with YouTube’s current policies before broadcasting.
Troubleshooting scheduled streams
- The event exists, but viewers see no live video: Scheduling only creates the event. Start Streamlabs as the encoder, confirm it is connected to the correct channel and scheduled event, and wait for the preview in Live Control Room.
- The preview never appears: Check that Streamlabs is sending to the correct stream URL and that the stream key matches the event. If you reset the key, replace the old one in the encoder.
- The wrong event or channel is receiving the feed: Verify the channel account selected in Streamlabs and the event selected in YouTube Studio before starting the encoder. Stop and correct the connection rather than going live on an unintended event.
- The event time or visibility is wrong: Review the event in YouTube Studio’s Manage view after saving. Correct the scheduled stream there if the displayed details do not match your plan.
- You expected a video playlist to start by itself: The scheduler does not establish that behavior. Choose a method that explicitly plays and transmits prerecorded files, and test it against the scheduled event before relying on it.
