You can schedule a YouTube live event for a holiday, but scheduling a regular YouTube playlist does not, by itself, make its videos play as a livestream. A live event is the viewer-facing page; an encoder or playout service must send the actual video feed. Schedule the event in YouTube Studio, arrange how the feed will be supplied, then share the event page with viewers ahead of time.
First, distinguish a livestream event from a playlist
A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos. A scheduled livestream is an event with a watch page and a live feed. YouTube’s documented encoder workflow covers scheduling the event and connecting an encoder; its playlist guidance covers creating and managing collections of videos. It does not document a feature that turns an ordinary playlist into a live broadcast feed.

That means there are two different ways to use prerecorded material:
- Publish videos on a schedule: YouTube can schedule an uploaded private video to become public at a chosen date, time, and time zone. That is a scheduled video publication, not a livestream.
- Play prerecorded videos as a livestream: A compatible encoder or playout system must send them to the scheduled live event in sequence. The event page alone will not play them.
If your plan is a live host or presentation, you still need an encoder to send that live program to YouTube. If it is a sequence of recordings, select a playout method that can supply a continuous feed and verify its current instructions before the holiday.

Choose how to supply the video feed

The right choice depends on whether you need a live presenter or prerecorded sequencing, what equipment you already have, and whether you can monitor a local setup during the event. Do not assume that a device or service will start at the right time or reconnect as you expect: test the complete feed and its scheduled start using your chosen setup.
Schedule the holiday livestream in YouTube Studio
- Open the Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage → SCHEDULE STREAM. Choose to reuse previous stream settings or create a new stream.
- Set up the event details. Enter a clear title and description, choose the intended visibility, and set the date, time, and time zone. Make the event information specific enough that viewers can tell which holiday program it is and when it begins.
- Prepare the connection. For an encoder-based broadcast, use the YouTube stream URL and stream key in the encoder or playout system. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the stream. Confirm that the selected encoder is connected to the event you scheduled.
- Configure the program in the encoder or playout system. For prerecorded playback, select the files and order there, not in the YouTube event settings. Check the maker’s current instructions and make sure the output matches the scheduled YouTube broadcast.
- Test before the holiday. Confirm that the encoder can connect to the intended event, the correct video and audio play, and the feed behaves as expected. Check again near the scheduled start; the precise start and playback behavior depend on the encoder or playout setup.
- Share the event watch page. Use its URL in your channel posts and other audience announcements so viewers can find the scheduled broadcast.
YouTube says a scheduled stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming, where viewers can choose Notify me. Treat that as a useful reminder option, not a guarantee that every subscriber will see the event.

Plan the holiday timing and promote changes
Choose dates and start times for the audience you intend to reach, and state the time zone clearly in the event details. YouTube’s livestream planning guidance recommends taking notable local or global holidays into account, introducing the livestream schedule, and communicating changes. Share the event early, then update viewers promptly if the timing or program changes.
Doordarshan provides historical examples of holiday programming on YouTube: the Press Information Bureau said its Republic Day coverage began at 9:15 AM on January 26, 2022, and was available on YouTube; a 2021 Independence Day announcement promoted a DD National playlist containing multiple livestreams. These are examples from those dates, not confirmation of a current broadcast schedule or a complete list of Indian national holidays. Verify the current holiday calendar and any relevant state or regional observances from an appropriate government source before announcing dates.
Keep the stream safe and ready
- Check rights to every item in the feed. Make sure you have the rights or permissions needed for the recordings, music, and other material you plan to broadcast. Scheduling a stream does not grant those rights.
- Do not confuse a playlist with permission to rebroadcast. A video being publicly available or already on YouTube does not by itself establish permission to include it in your livestream.
- Protect the stream key. Enter it only in the encoder or playout system you control, and avoid displaying it in screenshots, screen shares, or public instructions.
- Have a change plan. If the feed fails or the program must move, update the event information and tell viewers through the channels where you promoted it.
Common problems and fixes
The scheduled event appears, but no video plays
The event page and the video feed are separate. Connect an encoder or playout system to the scheduled event using its stream URL and key, then check that the selected program is actually playing in that system.

The playlist does not play as a livestream
A normal YouTube playlist is a collection, not the live feed. Load the prerecorded videos into a compatible encoder or playout system that can send them sequentially to YouTube Live.

Check that the encoder’s stream key and destination correspond to the event you intend to broadcast. If you reused old settings, verify the event association rather than assuming it carried over correctly.
Viewers cannot find the broadcast
Share the scheduled event’s watch-page URL and confirm the visibility and timing you selected. Viewers may see it as upcoming and opt into a reminder, but do not rely on the feed surfacing to every subscriber.

The program or date changes
Update the event details where possible and communicate the change wherever you shared the original schedule. A timely post is especially important when viewers have planned around a holiday start time.
