To run a regional news archive channel around the clock, schedule a YouTube Live event in YouTube Studio and send it a continuous feed from an encoder. A YouTube playlist organizes videos for viewers; the reviewed YouTube guidance does not describe a playlist as an automatic 24/7 live playout system. You must arrange the looping, scheduling, and recovery separately—and plan your own archive, because a live broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
What “schedule a 24/7 playlist” means on YouTube
There are two separate jobs: schedule a live event in YouTube Studio, then keep an encoder or hosted playout workflow sending video to that event. Playlists, by contrast, group published videos and highlights for discovery. YouTube’s help describes these as separate activities; it does not establish that a playlist itself automatically becomes an endless live stream. YouTube’s scheduled live stream guidance and promotion and organization guidance explain the respective features.

For an archive channel, prepare a continuous feed from material you are authorized to rebroadcast. The feed might be produced by software or hardware encoding, or by a hosted playout service. Before relying on any option, verify its file looping, event scheduling, unattended restart, recording, and recovery behavior; the YouTube guidance does not certify a particular third-party system for these tasks.

Prepare the channel and archive material
Check channel eligibility and activation time
- Verify the YouTube channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days, as described in YouTube’s live streaming tips.
- Enable live streaming well before launch. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Do not plan a same-day first activation as if it were guaranteed to be immediate. YouTube’s scheduling help
- Prepare titles, descriptions, thumbnails, language and visibility settings for the live event. Decide in advance how viewers will find the channel and the scheduled watch page.
Clear rights for every item
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the rights necessary for worldwide exploitation of live content, comply with applicable law, and meet regulatory requirements in the stream territory. Review rights item by item: reports, clips, photographs, graphics, music beds and sound recordings can each have separate ownership or licence conditions. A report having aired before, or being publicly viewable online, does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube’s terms

India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting says its Digital Media Division administers Part III of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. That part includes a Code of Ethics for covered publishers of news and current affairs on digital media and a three-tier grievance-redressal mechanism. Whether a particular channel falls within the framework depends on its facts and status; the ministry’s summary is not an individual legal determination. Investigate PB-SHABD if you need Indian news material
A PIB release dated 10 March 2026 describes PB-SHABD (Prasar Bharati-Shared Audio-Visuals for Broadcast and Dissemination) as supplying daily news items in video, audio, text and photo formats, including material in major Indian languages. The release says content is logo-free, requires no credit, and access would remain free through March 2027. Confirm current account eligibility, terms and permitted uses directly with the service before using any material. PIB release on PB-SHABD, 10 March 2026
A separate PIB release dated 24 October 2024 described eligibility criteria for YouTube-based digital news portals, including subscriber thresholds that differed for English/Hindi and regional outlets, account verification, a one-year operating history and recent upload activity. Those criteria are historical guidance, not a guarantee of current eligibility; check the service’s current process. The same 2024 release reported more than 1,000 daily stories, over 1,500 reporters, correspondents and stringers, and 60 edit desks—figures attributed to that dated PIB release. Schedule the YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, then open the Manage tab.
- Select Schedule Stream. Create a new event or reuse settings from an existing stream.
- Set the title, scheduled start time, visibility and other event details. If reusing settings, inspect the copied metadata and stream key rather than assuming they are correct.
- Save the event and open its Live Control Room. Use the event’s server URL and stream key in your encoder configuration.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes it as analogous to a password and address; anyone with access may be able to send a feed to your event. YouTube scheduling help
For a scheduled event, YouTube advises configuring the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event. That gives you time to confirm the incoming signal and resolve problems before viewers arrive. YouTube live streaming tips
Configure and test the continuous feed
YouTube supports software and hardware encoders. The reviewed guidance recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production streams, but it does not compare or endorse specific models. Whatever the source, configure it to send a stable feed to the event and independently confirm how it handles looping, schedule boundaries, unattended operation and reconnects.

Check upload capacity and redundancy
- Measure the available upload bandwidth where the encoder will run. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving about 20% spare. Include both primary and backup feeds in the total where applicable. YouTube streaming tips
- If using a backup encoder or network, test failover before launch. Confirm that the backup can reach the correct event and that its key and settings are managed securely. YouTube’s tips call for testing failover when operating a backup encoder. YouTube live streaming tips
- Do not assume that a successful connection proves the entire overnight or 24/7 workflow. Test the specific unattended restart and recovery behavior of your chosen encoder or hosted service.
Verify the viewer experience
- Start the encoder early and wait for the feed to appear in the Live Control Room preview.
- Check that the scheduled watch page and channel page show the event as intended, then test access on a phone as well as a desktop browser.
- Listen for clean audio and inspect the picture for freezes, blank frames or unintended material. Confirm the program is actually changing or looping as planned.
- Make a local recording and verify that the recording file is growing. This is a separate safeguard, not a substitute for checking the live watch page.
- Share the scheduled watch link in advance. After publishing finished archives or highlight clips, organize those videos into YouTube playlists separately from the live event.
Do not rely on YouTube to archive a 24/7 broadcast
YouTube says it can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. A single continuous 24/7 broadcast is therefore not a dependable archive of itself. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Keep a local recording and decide how you will preserve and publish usable segments. Do not assume a third-party playout system will split or reconnect the broadcast into archive files: the cited YouTube guidance does not guarantee how external systems handle those boundaries. Check recording storage, file growth, and the process for turning recordings into separate videos.

Choose a workflow for unattended operation
The relevant comparison is not just picture quality. For a regional archive channel that must stay live unattended, evaluate each setup against the operational requirements below. YouTube’s guidance establishes encoder support and reliability checks, but does not compare particular automation services.
- Looping and scheduling: Can it play the intended files in order, repeat them, and start or stop at the event times you need?
- Unattended recovery: What happens if the encoder process, computer, power, network or YouTube connection fails? Is restart automatic, and have you tested it?
- Recording and archive control: Can you verify a local recording and create manageable segments rather than relying on a 24/7 YouTube archive?
- Stream-key security: Who can access the key, where is it stored, and can you replace it if exposed?
- Redundancy and connectivity: Is a backup encoder or network needed, and does the connection have the recommended upload headroom?
- Cost and compatibility: Include hardware or hosted-service costs and verify that the workflow supports YouTube Live and the required output.
StreamNeo is the first hosted option to consider for this use: it keeps a YouTube stream running from the cloud, accepts uploads as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo streams to YouTube; it is for uploaded video, not a live camera feed.
- One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required; one free day per account.
- Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
For a regional news archive, cloud playout avoids keeping an encoder computer running at home. You still need rights to every item and a separate archive plan; a streaming service does not grant rebroadcast rights or remove YouTube’s 12-hour archive limitation. Start your free StreamNeo day.
Frequently Asked Questions
