At broadcast time, a playback source must send your nature videos through an encoder to YouTube. The practical setup is: prepare the playback order, schedule the event, connect the encoder with your stream key, then check the preview and start the broadcast.
Understand what you are scheduling
YouTube treats the event viewers watch and the incoming video feed as separate parts. Google’s Live Streaming API documentation says, “A broadcast represents an event that can be watched on YouTube as it happens.” The broadcast is the scheduled event and watch page; the stream is the audio-video feed and its settings. Scheduling the event can help you promote its URL and let viewers request reminders, but it does not produce or sequence your nature footage.

A YouTube playlist alone is therefore not enough. You need a playback source that plays the selected videos in order and can feed an encoder. The encoder sends that output to YouTube using the server URL and stream key.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsPrepare the nature-video playlist
- Choose and order your recordings. Arrange the videos in the sequence you want viewers to see them. Check the beginning and end of each file and whether the playback tool advances to the next one or loops the set as intended.
- Confirm the connection to your encoder. Your playback tool must be able to supply video and audio to the encoder you choose. A computer with playback software and a software encoder such as OBS is one option. YouTube also lists the AJA HELO Plus as a verified encoder; its PlayToStream feature is a dedicated hardware route for prerecorded media.
- Check rights and suitability before scheduling. Use footage and audio you have permission to stream, including any music, ambient recordings, or other material embedded in the videos. A scheduled event does not exempt a live stream from YouTube’s copyright rules. Also make sure the stream offers original value rather than relying on repetition alone if you plan to monetize it; YouTube’s monetization review is separate from the mechanics of scheduling.
- Test the complete playback chain. Verify that the selected videos play in the intended order and that the encoder receives both picture and sound. A private or otherwise limited test event can help you catch playback and connection problems before sharing a public watch page.
Schedule the YouTube Live event in Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live.
- Choose Manage, then select Schedule stream.
- Enter the event details and choose the privacy setting. Review the scheduled date and time carefully, including the time zone you intend viewers to use.
- Save the event. YouTube creates a watch page that you can share; viewers can request reminders where available.
- Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room when you are ready to connect the encoder. YouTube’s interface labels and available auto-start or auto-stop behavior can change, so verify the current controls on the event before airtime.
Connect the playback source and go live
- In Live Control Room, locate the stream settings for the scheduled event and copy the YouTube server URL and stream key.
- In your encoder, enter the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it in the event description or share it with viewers.
- Set the encoder’s video input to the output of your playlist playback tool. Confirm that the correct playlist is queued and ready to play.
- At the scheduled time, start sending the playback output from the encoder. Check Live Control Room for the incoming preview and any warnings before using Go live, unless the event’s current auto-start setting is enabled and you intend to use it.
- Watch the stream during the opening minutes to confirm the picture, audio, and playlist progression. Keep an eye on the playback source as well as the YouTube preview: a live event can remain connected even if the source stops advancing.
- When finished, end the broadcast in Live Control Room and stop the encoder feed according to your setup. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Choose a playback and encoder route
| Route | What it does | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Computer with playback software and a software encoder | YouTube documents software encoders generally, and OBS’s guide describes selecting and operating a scheduled broadcast. Your computer plays the nature-video playlist and sends its output to the encoder. | The computer, playback software, and network need to remain available for the stream. Confirm that the playlist advances or loops correctly and that the encoder receives the playback output. OBS’s community guide was last updated October 8, 2021, so check current interface labels and controls rather than relying on old screenshots. |
| AJA HELO Plus hardware encoder | YouTube lists the HELO Plus as a verified encoder. AJA describes its PlayToStream feature for scheduled playback of prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer; the product page specifies streaming up to 1080p60. | PlayToStream is optional, not a feature to assume is included. Confirm the separate license, compatible media and storage, video connections, and current cost with AJA or a seller before buying. It is one hardware route, not a requirement for scheduling a stream. |
Common problems and fixes
- The scheduled page exists, but no video appears. The event is only the broadcast page. Start the playback source and encoder feed, and confirm that the stream key and server URL belong to the scheduled event.
- The encoder is connected, but the preview is black. Check that the playback tool is actually playing, that its output is selected as the encoder input, and that the encoder is sending to YouTube. Recheck the server URL and stream key if the preview does not appear.
- The stream starts but the playlist does not advance. Check the playback tool’s queue and its end-of-file behavior. A YouTube event does not control how your local or hardware playback source moves between files.
- Viewers cannot hear the nature audio. Check that the source file has an audio track, that the playback tool is outputting it, and that the encoder is receiving the correct audio input. Confirm audio in the Live Control Room preview before relying on the public stream.
- The stream drops or the computer loses connectivity. With a computer-based setup, restore the playback and encoder feed and check the Live Control Room status. For a hardware setup, follow the manufacturer’s recovery guidance. Do not assume a scheduled event will reconnect or restart the footage on its own.
- The event starts at the wrong time. Review the scheduled date, time, and time zone in Studio, then verify when the encoder feed should begin and whether auto-start is enabled for that event.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded nature videos live on YouTube without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera or send to platforms other than YouTube.
