YouTube’s published instructions describe how to schedule an encoder stream, but do not establish a universal IST selector or time-zone conversion behavior across Studio versions.
Schedule the YouTube livestream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open the Live Control Room.
- Open Manage and select Schedule stream.
- Choose whether to reuse settings from a previous show or create a new stream. Review the episode’s title, description, visibility, and other metadata before saving. Reused settings may not suit the new programme, so check them rather than assuming they have been updated. YouTube’s instructions for this workflow are in Manage live stream settings.
- Set the date and time to match the intended IST airtime. The exact time-zone control or conversion behavior may differ by interface; the cited YouTube guidance does not confirm an IST-specific setting for every creator.
- Save the event, then compare the scheduled time displayed in Studio with the airtime on your IST run sheet. If Studio offers a time-zone choice, use the one that makes the displayed event match the intended IST slot. Do not assume your device or account setting has silently set the event to IST.
Verify the time before you promote the event
Make the saved event display your final check, not the time you remember entering. Compare its date and time with the show’s IST run sheet before sharing the event page. This matters especially when a team member schedules the show from a device or account configured for a different time zone. If the displayed time does not match, correct it and verify again before promotion.

Share the event and invite reminders
Copy the scheduled watch-page URL and share it in your channel announcements and other audience communications. A scheduled stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming, and viewers can choose Notify me near the start. YouTube describes these features in Manage live stream settings and Get started with live streaming.
Include the time zone in your announcement—for example, “8:00 p.m. IST”—and tell viewers promptly if the schedule changes. The event page is useful for discovery and reminders, but a clearly stated time helps avoid ambiguity in posts and messages.

Connect and prepare the encoder
Use the scheduled event’s stream details
Open the scheduled event’s stream settings and copy its YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder. The server URL tells the encoder where to send the feed; the stream key identifies the stream YouTube should receive. YouTube explains these encoder details in Set up your encoder for live streaming.
Treat the stream key like a password: share it only with people who need to configure the broadcast, and do not publish it alongside the event link. Use the details associated with the scheduled event rather than assuming a previous show’s encoder configuration is still correct.

Work to YouTube’s recommended lead times
- Set up the encoder at least two hours before the event.
- Start the encoder at least 15 minutes before airtime.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and confirm the event is reachable from the channel and watch pages, including on mobile.
- Monitor the picture and audio before the programme begins. For a radio show, confirm speech levels and any music or other programme audio are coming through as intended.
These are YouTube’s operational recommendations in its Live streaming tips, not audience statistics or a guarantee that every setup will be ready on time.
Build a schedule the team can sustain
Choose a recurring cadence the production team can reliably maintain, and communicate schedule changes to viewers. Check music rights before broadcasting
If the programme includes recorded music, confirm that you have the necessary rights for the material and territories in which it will be broadcast. Scheduling an event and having a working encoder do not establish permission to use music. Requirements depend on the repertoire and rights involved, so check with the relevant rights holders before going live.
