To schedule a continuous prerecorded stream on YouTube, create a scheduled live event in YouTube Studio, then use an encoder or cloud service to send a prerecorded video or playlist to that event. Scheduling creates the upcoming event and watch page; it does not play a file or keep a live feed running by itself.
What scheduling does—and what it does not do
A scheduled stream gives viewers an upcoming event page and the option to request a reminder. A separate encoder or streaming service must send the live audio and video. YouTube’s instructions have you enter the event’s stream URL and stream key in the encoder, then start the encoder (YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
The YouTube instructions reviewed do not describe a native control for looping a video file. For prerecorded programming, choose an encoder or service that explicitly supports your file format, looping or playlists, and unattended operation; confirm those capabilities in the provider’s current documentation.
Check eligibility before you schedule
- Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- YouTube says a streamer must be at least 16 years old.
- First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned start.
Check YouTube’s current live-streaming getting-started requirements for the latest eligibility details.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How to schedule a prerecorded stream
- Create the event: In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, open Manage, then choose Schedule Stream. Reuse settings from a previous stream or create a new stream.
- Set event details: Enter the title, audience, visibility, and scheduled time. Once available as an upcoming event, the watch page can let viewers select Notify me. YouTube’s stream settings guide describes scheduling and auto-start/auto-stop settings.
- Connect the encoder: Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key into your encoder or compatible streaming service. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Set up prerecorded playback: Select the video or playlist and configure looping or sequencing and unattended operation if the tool supports them. Test the exact workflow; the scheduled YouTube event alone will not provide these functions.
- Test before going public: YouTube recommends testing with similar audio and movement, checking stream health and messages, previewing in Live Control Room, and confirming that the watch page is accessible. Its guidance says to set up an encoder at least two hours before an event and start it at least 15 minutes beforehand.
- Start and monitor: Start the encoder so it sends the program to the scheduled event. Check the picture, audio, stream health, and watch page. If you plan to use a backup encoder, test the failover before relying on it.
- End or archive deliberately: Stop the encoder when the program should end. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a stream lasting longer will produce one complete archive.
Encoder settings and connection checks
Use the current YouTube encoder-settings table as the authority for a compatible production preset. In the documented context, YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video codecs, with AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Codec and setting compatibility can depend on the encoder and stream configuration, so check the live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions before committing to a long run.
- Prefer RTMPS when supported: YouTube recommends the encrypted extension to RTMP. HLS is another option for certain encoder and codec needs, but has higher latency.
- Measure upload capacity: The relevant limit is available upload bandwidth, not download speed. Keep the total stream bitrate below capacity and leave 20% headroom, as YouTube recommends in its streaming tips.
- Check the complete signal: Confirm that both audio and video reach the Live Control Room and that the intended audience can open the watch page. YouTube transcodes incoming live streams into formats for viewers on different devices and networks.
Choosing a way to keep the feed running
| Option or decision | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Software encoder on a computer | YouTube supports software encoders. The computer and its network connection must remain available for the stream, and the chosen software must support unattended file or playlist playback. |
| Hardware encoder | YouTube says professional-grade hardware can suit higher-production-value setups. It is optional; confirm that a specific device supports the intended prerecorded playback workflow before buying it. |
| File and playlist automation | Verify file-format support, looping or sequencing, unattended running, and recovery after a disconnect with the encoder or service provider. YouTube’s scheduling instructions do not establish these capabilities for third-party tools. |
| Connection and recovery | Check stream-health monitoring, backup or failover behavior, network capacity, and operator alerts. Test any redundant encoder before the event. |
| Archive and duration | Plan around YouTube’s stated automatic archive behavior for streams under 12 hours. A longer continuous program may need a separate recording and archive plan. |
YouTube’s encoder list describes CamStreamer as an Axis-camera streaming application and says it supports continuous and scheduled streams. That does not establish prerecorded-file looping support; check with the vendor before treating it as a fit.

Common problems and fixes
- The event is scheduled but nothing is playing: Scheduling created the watch page, not the feed. Start a compatible encoder or service and verify it has the correct event URL and key.
- The encoder cannot connect: Recheck the stream URL and key, confirm the event is the intended one, and inspect Live Control Room for stream-health messages. Replace the key if it may have been compromised.
- Viewers see buffering or the encoder drops: Check available upload bandwidth and reduce the total bitrate if necessary. Keep the recommended 20% headroom and test the connection under the same conditions as the planned stream.
- The video runs once and stops: Check the encoder’s playback or playlist settings. Verify that looping is enabled and that unattended playback is supported; YouTube scheduling does not make a file repeat.
- The stream is live but the archive is incomplete or missing: Check the event duration. YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours; arrange a separate recording for longer runs.
- The event is not ready at the scheduled time: Activate live streaming early, prepare the encoder well in advance, and use YouTube’s suggested lead times for setup and encoder start.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the program from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required; the monthly price is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start your free day.
