The fastest way to scan a paper document on most recent Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets is to use the built-in Camera app: frame the entire page, tap Scan when it appears, review the result, and tap Save. Samsung says the saved scan goes to Gallery. For a PDF, attach that image to Samsung Notes and export the note as a PDF. Multi-page PDFs use a separate workflow, such as the Microsoft Office mobile app, and its menus can change with app updates.
Scan a single document with the Camera app
Start with the Camera method when you need one page captured quickly. It creates an image in Gallery, so you can share it immediately or turn it into a PDF later.

- Open Camera. Use the regular photo camera rather than Portrait, video, or another specialty mode.
- Place the document in the viewfinder. Put the paper on a flat surface, keep all four edges visible, and hold the phone parallel to the page. Good, even light makes text easier to read.
- Wait for Scan. When the phone recognizes the page, a Scan control appears. Tap it. Samsung says the scan process can automatically remove unwanted shadows, hands, and other objects and align rectangular shapes. That behavior is Samsung’s stated function, not a guarantee that every Galaxy model or software version will produce the same result.
- Inspect the preview. Zoom in on small type, signatures, dates, and page corners. If anything is cut off, blurred, or distorted, retake the image before leaving the preview.
- Tap Save. Samsung’s support instructions say the resulting scan is saved in Gallery. Open Gallery to rename, organize, share, or attach the image to another app.
A scan is still a picture at this stage. If the recipient specifically requests a PDF, use the Notes workflow below rather than assuming a Camera capture is already a PDF.
Make a PDF with Samsung Notes
Samsung Notes can place the Camera scan inside a note and export the note as a PDF. This is useful when you need a file attachment instead of a Gallery image.

- Open Samsung Notes and create a new note.
- Choose Attach, select Image, then choose Gallery.
- Select the scan you saved and tap Done.
- Use Notes’ export or share command to save the note as a PDF.
Samsung describes Notes as supporting editing of the note and importing or exporting it as PDF. The exact icons can differ by Notes version, so look for the note’s menu or share/export controls if the labels are not identical. Samsung’s instructions are available in its Galaxy document-scanning guide.
Understand what Notes can and cannot edit in a PDF
There is an important distinction between annotating a PDF and changing its original content. Samsung says that when a PDF is imported into or exported from Samsung Notes, the PDF content itself cannot be edited. Notes can add text and drawings on top of the document, but it does not rewrite the existing words, images, or layout as editable PDF content.
If you need to correct a typo in the original document, change a table, or reflow its text, you need a dedicated PDF editor rather than Notes’ annotation tools. Some Samsung Notes features may also be unavailable unless the latest version of Notes is installed; update the app through your normal Galaxy app-update process if an expected command is missing. See Samsung’s PDF import and export guidance for Samsung Notes for the stated limitations.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf the Scan button does not appear
The Camera prompt is not presented identically on every Galaxy phone, tablet, or software release. Samsung’s current support guidance is to frame the document and tap Scan when it is available; it does not promise one universal menu path for every device.

On devices running One UI 6, Samsung Australia’s feature guide gives this route:
- Open Camera.
- Tap Camera settings.
- Open Scan documents and text.
- Enable Auto scan and, if desired, Remove unwanted objects.
That path is specifically documented for One UI 6, so treat it as version-specific rather than a current guarantee for all Galaxy models. If your menus differ, search Camera settings for document or text scanning, install available system and Camera updates, and consult the support instructions for your exact model. Samsung’s One UI 6 explanation is at Samsung Australia.
Some models expose scanning as a named camera feature instead of the same on-screen prompt. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 FE product material, for example, lists Document Scan and Multi Scan. That is a model example, not evidence that every Galaxy phone or tablet has identical controls.

The basic Camera workflow is best understood as a single-image capture. A multi-page PDF requires an app that keeps adding pages to one document. Samsung Business Insights described a Microsoft Office mobile workflow in an article published August 1, 2023:
Rank #3
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist¹ with Galaxy AI.² Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping

- FIT EVERYONE IN THE SHOT: Group selfies are easier on your Samsung phone with a wider front camera⁴ that captures more of the scene, so no one gets left out of the moment
- Open the Office mobile app and choose its Actions area.
- Select Scan to PDF.
- Capture the first page.
- Choose Add New to capture additional pages.
- Confirm the scans, finish the document, and share or save the resulting PDF.
Office menus may have changed since that 2023 article. If your current app uses different labels, look for its scan-to-PDF command and an option to add another page before finalizing. Do not confuse this process with the Camera app’s ordinary scan, which saves a scan image to Gallery. The historical workflow is documented by Samsung Business Insights.
Choose the right workflow
| Need | Recommended path | Output | Version dependence |
|---|---|---|---|
| One page for quick sharing | Camera > frame page > Scan > Save | Image in Gallery | Scan prompt and controls vary by Galaxy model and software. |
| One or more images placed in a Notes document | Samsung Notes > Attach > Image > Gallery | Note that can be exported as PDF | Labels and export controls can vary with the Notes version. |
| Several pages combined during capture | Microsoft Office mobile > Actions > Scan to PDF, then Add New | Multi-page PDF | Workflow described by Samsung Business Insights on August 1, 2023; current Office menus may differ. |
Use the first row when the recipient accepts an image. Use Notes when you want a PDF built from a saved scan or need to add annotations. Use a multi-page scan command when page order and one-file delivery matter.
Improve legibility before you save
- Show the complete page. Leave a small margin around every edge so automatic cropping does not remove a seal, signature, or page number.
- Keep the phone level. A parallel camera angle reduces trapezoid distortion and makes the page easier to read.
- Control reflections. Move glossy paper away from direct light and avoid casting your own phone-shaped shadow over the text.
- Check fine details. Inspect the smallest text and any handwritten fields at full size before tapping Save.
- Retake rather than repair. A clean second capture is usually safer than trying to interpret a blurred or clipped scan later.
- Preserve order for bundles. When using a multi-page workflow, capture pages in sequence and review the thumbnail order before finalizing the PDF.
Samsung’s automatic processing may remove shadows or unwanted objects and straighten rectangular shapes, but those are automated corrections. Always verify that they have not removed a mark that is part of the document.

Common problems and practical fixes
There is no Scan control
First make the document fill more of the viewfinder while keeping all edges visible. Then check Camera settings for document or text scanning. If you are on One UI 6, the documented controls are under Camera settings > Scan documents and text. On another release, the names or location may be different, so use your model’s software-specific help instead of assuming the One UI 6 path applies.

The saved file is not where expected
For the Samsung Camera workflow, Samsung says the result is saved in Gallery. Open Gallery and check the most recent items. If you used Notes or Office instead, the file may be stored or shared from that app’s own document flow rather than appearing as a new Camera image.
The page looks crooked or has missing corners
Retake it with the phone parallel to the page, better lighting, and a little more space around the edges. Review the complete preview before saving. Automatic alignment helps rectangular pages, but it cannot recover information that was outside the viewfinder.
The PDF contains annotations but the original words will not change
That is the expected Samsung Notes behavior. Notes adds text and drawings but does not edit the imported or exported PDF’s underlying content. Use a PDF editor when the source text or layout itself must be changed.

Device and software qualifications
Samsung’s document-scanning experience is not a single, identical feature across the entire Galaxy range. The Camera prompt, settings, automatic corrections, Notes integration, and multi-scan capabilities depend on the device and its software. One UI 6 instructions are useful for phones running that release, while a product page for a particular model—such as the Galaxy S26 FE listing Document Scan and Multi Scan—describes that model rather than establishing feature parity elsewhere.
For the most reliable result, identify your Galaxy model and One UI version before troubleshooting a missing control. Follow the current support page for that combination, and treat instructions written for another release as a guide rather than a universal rule.
A dependable document-to-PDF routine
For occasional paperwork, this sequence minimizes surprises:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Capture each page with Camera’s Scan control and verify it immediately.
- Keep the originals in Gallery until the final PDF has been opened and checked.
- For a one-page PDF, attach the saved image in Samsung Notes and export the note as PDF.
- For a multi-page PDF, use a current app’s scan-to-PDF workflow and add pages before confirming the file.
- Open the finished PDF, check page order, readable text, signatures, and margins, then share it.
This approach separates capture from packaging: Gallery preserves the original scan, Notes handles a simple PDF conversion or annotation, and a dedicated multi-page workflow handles bundling several pages into one file.
The Bottom Line
For a quick single-page scan, use Camera, tap Scan, review, and save to Gallery. To deliver a PDF, attach the image in Samsung Notes and export the note; for several pages, use a current scan-to-PDF workflow such as the Office mobile process, while allowing for changed menus and model-specific features.
