You cannot download photos from an Orkut profile today. Google shut Orkut down on September 30, 2014, and the temporary export period for profile data, community posts and photos ended in September 2016. The practical path now is to look for copies you or someone else saved before those deadlines.
Google’s current Orkut Help Center states: It is no longer possible to save items associated with your Orkut profile.
That means there is no current Orkut sign-in, profile viewer or Orkut option in Google Takeout that will recreate the old download process.

What happened to Orkut and its photo export?
Orkut was a Google social network that operated for about ten years. In its June 30, 2014 farewell announcement, Google said the service would close and that users could export profile data, community posts and photos through Google Takeout for a limited period. The announcement set the export deadline in September 2016.
That distinction matters. The export offer was not an unlimited backup kept alive after the service closed. It was a temporary way for users to retrieve their information while Google was winding down Orkut. A person who never made an export before the deadline cannot create a new Orkut archive by opening today’s Takeout page.

Google’s original announcement is available in its Orkut farewell post. A reproduced copy of the announcement also records the temporary Takeout period in Google Groups. These are historical notices, not instructions for a live service.
The “ten years” description in Google’s 2014 farewell message is useful historical context. It does not mean that Orkut data has remained available for ten years after the shutdown, and it is not a measure of how many photos can still be recovered.
Can you still download Orkut photos from Google?
No. Google’s current Orkut Help Center says that items associated with an Orkut profile can no longer be saved. Treat any page, application or service that claims to open your retired Orkut profile as unverified unless it can provide an independently documented copy that you already own.

Google’s current general instructions, How to download your Google data, explain the present Takeout process and delivery choices such as email or cloud storage. They do not say that Takeout revives Orkut exports. Do not expect an Orkut product selector to appear in a new archive request.
What you should do before searching
Approach this as a personal archive search rather than an online account recovery. Make a list of every place where you may have stored photos, and record which locations you have checked. This prevents repeated searches and helps you distinguish “not found yet” from “never existed.”
- Write down old accounts and devices. Include computers, phones, tablets, USB drives, memory cards, discs, cloud accounts and email addresses used during your Orkut years.
- Choose a safe destination. Create a new folder on a current drive for candidate files. Do not use the only old disk as your working area.
- Preserve originals. Copy files before renaming, editing, converting or organizing them. An edited version may remove information that helps identify where it came from.
- Keep expectations realistic. A search can find an existing copy; it cannot recreate a file that was never saved or has been permanently destroyed.
Where to look for copies you may already have
Because there is no supported online recovery route, search the places where a personal copy could have survived. Work methodically and keep the original files untouched until you have made a second copy.

1. Search old computers and phones
- List every computer, phone and tablet you used during the years you used Orkut. Include devices that are now in storage, even if their batteries no longer work.
- On a working device, search image formats such as
.jpg,.jpeg,.pngand.gif. Search the Pictures, Downloads, Desktop and Documents folders, then check any folder you used for social-network downloads. - Use date filters around the years when you were active on Orkut. Photo filenames may not contain your name, so combine filename searches with thumbnail and visual browsing.
- Check user profiles and shared folders on the computer, not only the account you currently use. A family member may have copied images to a different login.
- If an old computer will not start, do not repeatedly power it on if the drive is making unusual noises. A qualified technician may be able to copy the drive, but that is a separate data-preservation job, not Orkut recovery.
Do not move, rename or edit the only copy while searching. First copy candidates to a new folder, then work from that copy. If a device contains unrelated personal information, restrict the search to image folders where possible rather than handing over the entire device.

2. Check removable media
Look through USB flash drives, external hard drives, memory cards, CDs and DVDs used for photo transfers or computer backups. Search each device for the same common image extensions and inspect folders created during the period when Orkut was active.
Old media can fail or become unreadable. If a disc, card or drive is not recognized, stop before formatting it; formatting destroys the directory information you may need. Do not accept a prompt to initialize or repair a disk until you have considered whether the files are more valuable than the device. If the media is physically damaged, a qualified data-preservation professional may be able to make a copy, but no professional can promise that a particular photo remains intact.
3. Inspect personal cloud storage
Check every cloud-storage account you used at the time, including folders created by automatic camera backup or manual uploads. Search both the main file view and the service’s trash or archive areas if they are still available. Look for folders named for a phone, a computer, a year, a trip or a family member rather than only folders named “Orkut.”

If you find an image, download it and keep a local copy before changing the folder structure. If the service offers multiple resolutions, retain the largest version available and make a separate working copy for edits.
4. Search email and messages
Look through sent mail, received mail and saved attachments for image files or messages in which you shared an Orkut photo. Search by file type, approximate year and the names of friends or communities associated with the picture. Also inspect old message exports and local mail archives if you used a desktop mail program.
If another person sent you a copy, ask them to check their own attachments and backups; they may have a different resolution or crop than your original. Explain exactly which image you remember and when it was shared. A recipient may have saved the attachment even if your own mailbox no longer contains the message.
5. Find an older Google Takeout archive
If you exported Orkut data before the September 2016 deadline, search your download folders, external drives and cloud archives for the files you received then. Search by the approximate download date and by archive extensions such as .zip or .tgz, but do not assume that every archive uses the same structure.
Check old email for delivery notices or download links, while remembering that an old link may no longer work. The useful item is the archive or extracted image you retained, not the existence of a historical message. If you find several archives, keep each one until you know which contains the best copy.

The Orkut-specific sources do not guarantee a particular archive filename, folder layout or image format. Open a copy in a normal desktop file manager, use thumbnail view, and look for image files rather than relying on a remembered path.
How to handle an old archive safely
- Make a duplicate first. Copy the complete archive to a second drive or a separate storage location before extracting or reorganizing anything.
- Keep the original read-only when possible. Treat the untouched archive as your evidence copy. Perform searches and extraction on the duplicate.
- Extract to a new folder. Preserve the archive’s internal folders and filenames until you know which files are useful.
- Verify that files open. Test several images in a standard desktop image viewer. A filename alone does not prove that the file is complete.
- Compare candidates. If the same picture appears in more than one place, compare dimensions and visual quality before choosing a master copy. Keep the alternatives until your backup is complete.
- Record what you found. Note the storage location, archive date if visible, and any missing or unreadable files. This prevents accidental overwriting when you make later copies.
- Create a second backup of recovered images. Keep one copy on a separate physical device and another in a different location or cloud account. Do not rely on the same old disk that held the archive.
Current Google Takeout documentation can explain how present-day Google exports are delivered, but it cannot validate an old Orkut archive or guarantee that a damaged archive can be repaired. If an extraction program reports an error, preserve the untouched archive and seek advice before repeatedly attempting repairs on it.
What the Orkut Community Archive can—and cannot—do
The Community Archive is often mistaken for a backup of every Orkut profile. Google describes it as a place to view public community discussions. It is not presented as a gallery of private profile photos or as a tool for downloading those photos.

You may still encounter public posts or discussion threads there, and Google’s Orkut help information includes controls for deleting posts from that archive. Finding a community conversation does not establish that the associated profile image survives, and the archive should not be treated as a substitute for your own photo backup.
A discussion may mention a person, event or image without containing the original file. Even when a post includes a visible picture, that does not show that a separate profile-photo copy is available for download. Treat the archive as historical public conversation, not as a personal account backup.
Why account recovery will not restore Orkut
If you cannot sign in to an old Google Account, Google’s Orkut help pages point to ordinary account-recovery guidance. Recovering the account can help you regain access to the account itself, but Google does not say that it reactivates Orkut or restores photos associated with the retired service.
Use account recovery only for the account-access problem. Do not interpret a successful password reset, identity check or recovery email as evidence that Orkut data has been restored. If you recover the account, you can still inspect any Google products and personal files that remain available, but an Orkut profile should not be expected to reappear.
How to evaluate claims of “Orkut recovery”
There is no current official Orkut download route to compare with third-party recovery tools. Be cautious with any site that asks for your old Google password, requests remote access to your computer, or promises to display a profile that Google says can no longer be saved.

- Never give a password or one-time verification code to a service claiming it can unlock Orkut.
- Do not upload an entire hard-drive image or an old Takeout archive unless you understand who will receive it and why.
- Ask for a clear explanation of the source of any alleged photos. A legitimate copy should come from your device, backup or an identifiable person who saved it.
- Keep your own untouched archive before sending files anywhere for repair or conversion.
- Be wary of requests for payment before the service can explain what copy it can access. A fee may cover technical labor, but it cannot make a retired Google service available again.
- Do not install unknown software merely because it uses the words “Orkut,” “Takeout” or “recovery.” Those names do not establish that the program has access to Google’s former servers.
A scanner can digitize a printed photograph, and an external drive can store recovered files, but neither device can retrieve a photo that no longer exists in one of your own copies. No product, subscription or utility is supported here as a way to download a photo directly from the retired service.
What recovery may cost
Searching your own folders, drives, email and old archives costs time but does not require a special Orkut service. You may choose to buy storage for a backup or pay a technician to copy an unstable computer or damaged drive. Those expenses relate to preserving a copy you already possess; they do not purchase access to Orkut.
Ask any technician to describe the exact task: copying files from a device, creating an image of a drive, or repairing a damaged archive. Keep your own backup before handing over equipment, and avoid anyone who guarantees that every old Orkut photo can be recovered. The available Google guidance provides no recovery success rate and no official price for such work.

- You have an old computer or drive: copy its data before reorganizing or repairing it.

What if I remember the exact profile URL?
A URL can help you remember which account or person to ask, but it does not reopen the retired profile. Look for a saved file, an old message attachment or a copy held by someone who received the image.
What if an old drive is not recognized?
Do not format or initialize it. Preserve the device and consider qualified data-preservation help. That work attempts to copy your existing storage; it does not connect to Orkut.
Can a friend’s copy be good enough?
Possibly. A friend or family member may have saved the same image in a different resolution or crop. Ask for the original file rather than a screenshot when available, and keep both versions until you decide which is most useful.
