Saving and transferring progress in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are different tasks. Use each game’s own save feature to preserve progress in that title. To carry selected progress into the other game, complete the first adventure and enter its password in a new file in the second. On Nintendo Switch, a suspend point lets you resume an emulated session; it is not the same as the cross-game password link.
How do I save progress in an Oracle game?
On original Game Boy Color hardware, save within the individual game using its in-game save feature. The sources available here do not establish the exact button sequence for saving or quitting, and an old cartridge’s ability to retain data depends on its condition. Do not assume that a particular cartridge still retains a working save without checking it.

On Switch, the Game Boy Nintendo Classics app provides suspend points. Open the Suspend Menu to create a point, then load it later to resume from that emulator state. Nintendo requires an active Nintendo Switch Online membership to access the Game Boy library. See Nintendo’s Game Boy games update and Nintendo’s instructions for creating and loading suspend points.

Finish Oracle of Ages or Oracle of Seasons, then use the password it provides to start the linked adventure in the other game. This is not a general copy of the first game’s save file: it starts a linked game in a new file and carries selected progress and story connections into the second title. Nintendo says the linked adventure retains the hero’s name, begins with additional items, brings back characters encountered in the first game, and adds a final boss.

- Complete the first game and note the password it gives you.
- Open the other Oracle game and choose an unused file at the file-selection screen.
- Select SECRETS and enter the password from the completed game.
Nintendo describes the password link on its Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages pages. The file-selection route is described in a scanned Oracle of Ages instruction manual; the scan is hosted by a third party.
What does the Game Link cable do?
The scanned manual also describes a cable-based GAME LINK option for original hardware. This route requires two compatible Game Boy Color systems, both game cartridges, and a compatible Game Link cable. It is a legacy hardware option, not a requirement for the password method. If you are using the password route, you do not need a cable.

Can I use a Switch suspend point to transfer my save?
Nintendo’s guidance describes suspend points as a way to resume play in the Game Boy Nintendo Classics app. The cited Switch material does not say that a suspend point transfers an Oracle save between Ages and Seasons. For progress that links the two games, use the in-game password method.
Which option should I use?
| Option | What it does | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| In-game save | Preserves progress within one Oracle game | The game and functioning save hardware or platform implementation |
| Password link | Starts the other title as a linked adventure with selected carried-over progress | A completed first game, its password, and an unused file in the other game |
| GAME LINK cable | Provides the cable-based linking option described in the original manual | Two compatible Game Boy Color systems, both cartridges, and a compatible cable |
| Switch suspend point | Resumes play from a saved emulator state in the Game Boy Nintendo Classics app | Access to the Game Boy library through Nintendo Switch Online |
Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons were originally released for Game Boy Color in 2001. Nintendo lists both games in its product pages and describes their password-based connection.
