To save in Little Kitty, Big City, use the game’s in-game save interface, choose a save slot, and confirm. When you return, open the game’s load option and select that slot. Steam lists the game as supporting Save Anytime and Steam Cloud. Switch stores saves in the console’s System Memory, while the mobile edition has separate saves: Double Dagger Studio says PC and console saves cannot be transferred to mobile.
The exact backup and recovery steps depend on where you play. The instructions below separate Steam, Nintendo Switch, and mobile behavior so you do not mistake a local save, a cloud copy, and a cross-platform transfer for the same thing.

How saving and loading works
Saving is handled inside the game rather than through a special external utility. Before stopping, open the in-game menu, choose the save command, select an available slot, and wait for the save operation to finish before closing the application. The slot is the copy you will select later from the load menu.

- Choose the save option. Select a save slot and confirm the operation. If you keep several playthroughs, use a different slot for each one instead of overwriting the only copy.
- Exit only after the save completes. A crash, forced close, or power interruption during a write can leave a save unusable.
- Resume later. Start the game, open its load option, and select the slot you saved. Loading is separate from starting a new game, so check the slot name or number before confirming.
Steam’s store listing describes the game as supporting Save Anytime. That means you do not have to reach a particular checkpoint before saving on that version, but it does not make every moment immune to a crash or an interrupted write. Saving deliberately before quitting is still the safest habit.

Steam: save slots, Steam Cloud, and the Windows folder
Use the in-game save menu first
On Steam, the normal workflow is still the in-game menu: save to a slot, then choose that slot from the load menu when you return. Steam Cloud is listed for the Steam version, so Steam can synchronize the game’s supported save data through your account. Cloud synchronization is a convenience, not a guarantee that every damaged, deleted, or overwritten local file can be recovered.
Find the Windows save directory
Double Dagger Studio identifies the Windows save directory as:

Replace [your_account_name] with your Windows account folder name; the bracketed save-slot portion is part of the naming pattern, not a literal folder you should create.

AppData is normally hidden in Windows, so typing the full path is usually quicker than trying to reveal hidden folders.
Make a manual backup before troubleshooting
If your progress matters, close the game normally and copy the entire Little Kitty, Big City folder to another location before changing anything. A second folder on another drive is safer than keeping the only copy beside the live files. Give the backup a date and do not edit the copied files while diagnosing the original.

This backup is useful because Steam Cloud does not necessarily preserve every earlier version of a file. If a newer, empty, or damaged local save synchronizes, the cloud copy may also change. Keep your manual copy until you have successfully loaded the desired slot.
What Steam Cloud does—and does not—mean
Steam Cloud is intended to keep supported save data available through Steam, including when you sign in on another computer. It should not be treated as a cross-platform service: a Steam save is not automatically a Switch or mobile save. It also cannot promise recovery from every corruption event, sudden shutdown, or mistaken overwrite. If Steam presents a synchronization conflict, read the timestamps and choose the copy that contains your latest known-good progress; if you are unsure, preserve both choices outside the game before deciding.

Nintendo Switch: where the save is stored
Switch saves are in System Memory
Nintendo’s general storage guidance says Switch game saves live in the console’s System Memory, not on a microSD card. A microSD card can hold downloadable game data and screenshots, but it is not a substitute for a save backup. Do not remove or format a microSD card expecting it to contain a copy of your Little Kitty, Big City progress.
Check whether this game supports Save Data Cloud Backup
Nintendo says support is title-specific. Check the game’s eShop listing or the software’s information menu on your Switch for a Save Data Cloud or Save Data Cloud Backup indicator. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use Nintendo’s cloud-backup service.
The current game-specific cloud flag was not established in the available official information, so do not assume that backup is either enabled or unavailable. Verify the listing or software menu on your own console. If no cloud-backup support is shown, treat the System Memory copy as the only local save and avoid deleting the software or initializing the console unless you have confirmed another recovery option.

Resume on the same Switch
Start the game and use its load option to select the saved slot. The normal in-game save and load process is independent of whether Nintendo cloud backup is available. Cloud backup, when supported and enabled, is an additional recovery or transfer mechanism governed by Nintendo’s settings; it is not a different save command inside the game.
Mobile edition: a separate save environment
Double Dagger Studio’s mobile FAQ states that the mobile version launched on October 12, 2026. It also gives an unambiguous answer about moving progress from another platform:
“Sorry, saves can’t be transferred.”
That means a PC or console save cannot be imported into the mobile edition. Plan to begin a new mobile playthrough even if you own the game elsewhere. The restriction also means you should not expect a mobile save to appear in Steam, on Switch, or on another platform.
The mobile version can be played offline after you download and purchase the full version. Offline play describes whether the game can run without an active connection; it is not evidence that saves synchronize between devices or editions. Keep the mobile save on the device and use the platform’s own backup features, if offered, rather than expecting PC or console continuity.

These are separate save environments. Owning the game on more than one platform does not by itself provide a shared progression system.

If a save is corrupted or disappears
Recognize the difference between a stuck character and a broken save
A save problem usually appears as a slot that will not load, an error on startup, missing progress, or a crash whenever the game reads a particular slot. Kitty being trapped behind scenery or outside the playable area is different: the save may be healthy, but the character’s position is unusable.
Protect the existing files first
- Stop launching and closing the game repeatedly if every attempt produces the same error.
- On Windows, copy the entire save folder to a separate location before deleting or replacing anything.
- Record your platform, operating-system version where relevant, what happened immediately before the problem, and which slot is affected.
- If Steam shows a cloud conflict, preserve the local folder and any downloaded cloud copy before choosing a replacement.
Crashes, sudden exits, and power outages can produce corrupted saves. The developer says a permanent solution is in progress, so a clean shutdown and a current backup are more valuable than repeatedly testing the damaged file.
The official Steam workaround is destructive
Double Dagger Studio lists a Steam workaround: close the game, delete all files in the named Little Kitty, Big City save folder, and restart the game. The developer’s FAQ explicitly warns that this requires starting a new save. It is therefore a reset procedure, not a repair that restores your old progress.
Use that workaround only after you have decided that losing the existing save is acceptable or after preserving it for support. Deleting the folder should not be your first response when the goal is to recover a valuable playthrough, and it should never be described as restoring a backup.

If the slot is important, the backup procedure is unsuitable, or the failure continues, contact Double Dagger Studio support before deleting files. Include the platform, game version if displayed, operating system for Steam issues, the affected save slot, the time of the crash or power loss, and a concise description of what you tried. Keep your copied save folder available in case support requests it.
If Kitty is stuck in the world
Use the built-in recovery command instead of treating the situation as save corruption:
Main Menu → Options → “Unstick Me”
“Unstick Me” is an in-game position reset. It is not a save restore and it does not recover a deleted or corrupted slot. After Kitty is back in a playable location, use the ordinary save command so the corrected state is written to a slot.
Common situations and the right response
“I stopped playing and now I cannot find my progress.”
Return to the same platform and open the load menu rather than selecting New Game. Check each slot you normally use. On Steam, confirm that you are signed into the account that owns the game and allow Steam Cloud to finish synchronizing before making a choice in any conflict dialog. If the files are missing or the slot will not load, stop and make a copy of the Windows save folder before trying a reset.

“I want to continue on another computer.”
Steam Cloud is listed for the Steam version and may make the Steam save available after you sign in on another computer. Let synchronization complete, then check the load menu. For important progress, keep a manual copy of the Windows save folder as an additional safeguard. This applies to the Steam version; it does not imply that a Steam save can be opened on Switch or mobile.
“I bought the game on mobile and want my console progress.”
You cannot transfer it. The mobile FAQ’s answer is “Sorry, saves can’t be transferred.” Start a new mobile save and keep playing on the original platform if you want to preserve the earlier playthrough there.
“Can I back up my Switch save to a microSD card?”
No. Nintendo says game saves are stored in System Memory, not microSD. Check the title’s cloud-backup support and Nintendo Switch Online requirements instead; do not rely on copying the game card or downloadable game data as a save backup.
“Kitty is trapped, but the menus still work.”
Choose Main Menu → Options → “Unstick Me.” This addresses an out-of-bounds or stuck position. Only investigate save recovery if the game cannot load the slot or repeatedly crashes while reading it.

A practical save-safety checklist
- Save through the game’s menu before quitting, especially after major exploration or collectibles.
- Keep separate slots for separate playthroughs instead of overwriting your only slot.
- Close the game normally and avoid powering off while a save is being written.
- On Windows, back up
