To save an Indian Railways e-ticket as a PDF, open its Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS), select the ERS print option, then choose Save as PDF in your browser or system print dialog. On Windows, IRCTC’s illustrated guide uses Microsoft Print to PDF. Save the file, then open it to check that the journey and passenger details are legible.
Save the IRCTC ticket as a PDF
- Sign in to the official IRCTC website and open the booking confirmation or booked-ticket history. IRCTC describes access to the ERS both after a successful booking and later through booked tickets (IRCTC Book E-Ticket).
- Open the ERS for the booking you want to keep. If the page offers a language choice, select the version you need.
- Select the ERS print control. In the print dialog, choose Save as PDF or another PDF destination. IRCTC’s illustrated Windows workflow shows Microsoft Print to PDF (IRCTC Web Page Guide).
- Choose a recognizable filename and folder, then save. For example, use a name that helps you identify the journey without exposing passenger details unnecessarily.
- Open the saved PDF and check that the ticket information is readable and not clipped. If it is blank or cut off, return to the ERS, try another PDF destination, and inspect print preview settings such as orientation or scale.
Button names and print-dialog layouts vary by browser, operating system, and version. The specific Microsoft Print to PDF example is for Windows; other devices may offer a differently named PDF option.

What the PDF does—and does not—mean for travel
The PDF is a saved copy of the ERS; creating it does not change or validate the booking. IRCTC’s terms describe the ERS together with an accepted original identity document as the authority for an e-ticket journey (IRCTC Terms and Conditions of Service). IRCTC’s FAQ also says one passenger on the PNR must show accepted ID in original (IRCTC FAQ).
There may be an electronic-display alternative: a 17 July 2019 Ministry of Railways release said e-ticket passengers could use a printed ERS or display the IRCTC SMS/Virtual Reservation Message (VRM) containing vital details (PIB: E-Ticket Facility in Indian Railways). A 14 December 2016 Ministry release also described SMS or screenshot use with prescribed original identification and subject to the passenger appearing on the reservation chart (PIB: Paperless Ticket System in Railways). These are dated statements, not a guarantee that every detail of current travel rules is unchanged. Check current IRCTC or Railway instructions for your journey and carry required original ID.

PDF copy or electronic display?

Neither option removes the need to confirm the current requirements for your specific journey.
If the ERS is missing or the PDF will not save
- You cannot find the ticket: check the booking confirmation and booked-ticket history under the correct IRCTC account. If you still cannot retrieve it, use the IRCTC eQuery Portal.
- The print preview is blank: reload the ERS and try its print control again, or select the operating system’s PDF destination from the browser print dialog.
- Details are clipped or too small: inspect the preview, try portrait or landscape as appropriate, and adjust scale before saving. IRCTC’s guide shows a preview and portrait orientation, but does not establish one setting for every ticket layout.
- The menu labels do not match: look for a PDF save or print destination; labels differ across browsers and devices.
- You need an old ticket after the journey: available official guidance does not establish whether every booking type remains exportable after its journey date or whether the latest site uses the same controls. Ask IRCTC through its eQuery portal rather than relying on unverified workarounds.
