To save a webpage as a readable PDF, open the browser’s Print dialog, choose Save as PDF, and adjust the paper size, orientation, scale, and margins in the preview. There is no universal setting that turns every webpage into one continuous, break-free page: PDFs are paginated, and the result depends on the page’s layout and print styles. If you own the webpage, print-specific CSS gives you more control. If you only need a clean visual record rather than a paginated document, a screenshot may be a better fit.
Why a webpage splits across PDF pages
A webpage is normally laid out for a scrolling screen, while a PDF is laid out on sheets with fixed dimensions. When the browser converts the page, it has to fit the content into the selected paper size, orientation, margins, and scale. The browser may split a paragraph, table, image, or panel where the available space ends. The page’s own print styles can also affect what is hidden, resized, or kept together.
That means “without page breaks” can mean two different things: preventing an awkward split through important content, or making the whole page one very tall PDF page. The first is usually achievable by adjusting print settings or the webpage’s CSS. The second is not a general browser setting and can make the result difficult to read or print. For a document meant to be read or printed, sensible page breaks are often better than shrinking everything onto one sheet.
Save the page to PDF in your browser
- Open the page and its print preview. Use Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on macOS. You can also open the browser menu and choose Print.
- Select the PDF destination. In Chrome and other Chromium browsers, select Save as PDF as the destination. Firefox offers Save to PDF in the print dialog. In Edge, open the print dialog and select the PDF destination available on your system.
- Set the page geometry. Choose paper size and orientation before changing scale. For a wide table or diagram, try landscape. If a larger paper size is appropriate for the intended use, test it in the preview.
- Adjust margins and scale cautiously. Reduce margins if content is being clipped at the edge. If content still overflows, try a modest scale reduction. Check that body text remains legible; scaling down too far can technically fit content while making the PDF unpleasant to use.
- Check headers, footers, and backgrounds. Turn off headers and footers if they take space away from the page content. Enable background graphics only when the design relies on colored backgrounds or images; otherwise, leaving them off can simplify the output.
- Inspect the preview page by page, then save. Check the start and end of the PDF as well as pages containing tables, images, and headings. Look for clipped edges, blank pages, unexpectedly split rows, and text that has become too small. Save only after the preview is acceptable.
The available controls and their exact placement can vary by browser version, operating system, and printer or PDF destination. Treat the preview as the final check rather than assuming a particular setting will fix every site.

Use reader modes to remove clutter before printing
Firefox: try Simplified format
Firefox’s print dialog includes a Simplified format option when it is available for the page. It can remove surrounding material and change the print rendering, which may eliminate navigation, sidebars, or other clutter that creates awkward breaks. Firefox Help describes the PDF step this way: “Select Save to PDF in the drop-down menu to save the shown preview as a PDF file.” If Simplified is unavailable or removes content you need, switch back to the regular format and use the print settings instead.
Edge: try Immersive Reader
When a page supports it, Edge’s Immersive Reader can provide a less cluttered reading view before printing. This can help when ads, navigation, or sidebars dominate the print layout. Availability depends on the page and Edge’s recognition of its content; it is not a way to preserve every original design element. Edge’s More settings > Background graphics control determines whether colored backgrounds and images are included in the print output. Edge also supports printing a selected portion and opening the system print dialog.
Chrome and other Chromium browsers
Use the print preview to change the destination, paper, orientation, scale, margins, and other available settings. If a page is still badly arranged, changing browser settings may not be enough: the website’s print CSS, fixed-height panels, or overflow rules may be responsible. Chrome for Developers published an article on print margins on October 30, 2024; its documentation discusses paged-media CSS and the @page rule for authors who control the site.

Fix common page-break problems
A heading is stranded at the bottom of a page
Try slightly reducing the scale or margins and inspect the preview again. If you own the page, use print-specific CSS to keep a heading with the section content that follows it. Avoid applying a keep-together rule indiscriminately to very long sections: a block taller than the printable page cannot fit on one page and may still need to split.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchA table is split, too wide, or cut off
For a table wider than the paper, switch to landscape first. Then try a larger paper size or modestly reduced scale if those suit the reader’s needs. Check the whole table, not just the first page: a preview can show columns cut off or rows divided in ways that are easy to miss. If you own the page, adjust the table’s print layout in CSS rather than relying on a very small global scale.
An image or panel is clipped or missing
Look for fixed-height containers, content with overflow restrictions, and images sized for a screen layout. If you own the page, override those rules for printing so the content can flow and images fit the printable width. For a page you do not control, reader mode may remove a problematic wrapper, but it may also omit design or content you wanted to retain.

There are blank pages or large gaps
Check the page’s print preview after changing paper size, orientation, and margins. A website’s print rules or a fixed-height layout can leave content positioned awkwardly in print. If the page is yours, inspect it with print emulation as described below; if it is not, try the browser’s reader view and compare the resulting preview.
The PDF text is too small after fitting
Undo the aggressive scale reduction. Instead, remove nonessential clutter, use landscape for wide content, or choose a larger paper size if appropriate. If a single continuous visual record matters more than selectable text or print readability, a screenshot or image may suit the purpose better than forcing a long page into a small PDF.

If you own the webpage, fix its print CSS
For a page you maintain, print-only styles are the durable solution to recurring export problems. MDN documents @media print for styles applied when a page is printed on paper or as a PDF. Use it to hide navigation and other non-content elements, reset screen-only sizing and overflow, and let the main content flow at the printable width. The @page rule can set page geometry, including page size and margins. Browser support and behavior vary, so test in the browsers your readers actually use.

This is a starting point, not a universal stylesheet: replace example selectors with ones from your site and choose page dimensions and margins appropriate to the document. Avoid hiding content users need, and check whether tables or long sections still split acceptably. To debug styles that apply only during printing in Edge, open DevTools, select the Rendering tool, set Emulate CSS media type to print, and inspect or edit the styles being applied. Then export a PDF and verify the result; emulation helps diagnose layout but does not replace checking the actual file.

For a complex page whose browser preview remains unsuitable, Adobe’s documented workflow is All tools > Create a PDF > Web page, followed by Advanced settings for conversion and layout options. This is an escalation option, not a guarantee that every page will convert perfectly. Review the resulting PDF for clipping, broken tables, and missing content just as you would a browser export.
Choose the method according to what the file needs to preserve. Browser printing is convenient for a one-off document; reader modes can reduce surrounding clutter; print CSS is the right place to fix a site you control; a dedicated converter may be worth trying when a complex layout defeats the browser preview. If you need repeatable capture of webpage appearance rather than a paginated, text-oriented document, consider a screenshot workflow instead.

For a clean visual screenshot of a webpage rather than a PDF, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. It can accept cookie and consent banners like a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response includes X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The API also supports PDF capture, but the simple request below is a screenshot example, not a PDF-export request.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API details. Free includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card.
Choose the method that fits the document
For a readable PDF, begin with browser print preview and correct the geometry before shrinking text. Use Simplified format or Immersive Reader when clutter is the cause. If you control the webpage, repair its print styles and test them in print emulation. If the real requirement is a clean visual capture rather than page-by-page document layout, use a screenshot workflow instead of trying to make a PDF behave like an infinitely tall image.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I save a whole webpage as one continuous PDF page?
Browsers generally paginate PDFs to the selected paper size; they do not provide a universal continuous-page setting. A screenshot or image capture may be more appropriate when one continuous visual record is essential.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Will landscape orientation remove page breaks?
No. It can provide more horizontal room for wide content such as tables, but the PDF remains paginated and still needs previewing.
Does print preview show exactly what every PDF reader will display?
It is the best place to check the browser’s intended output, but open the saved PDF too when layout fidelity matters.
