Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe dependable Mac method is File > Print > PDF > Save as PDF. It works in Safari and other apps that support printing, does not require a connected printer or separate PDF software, and lets you choose pages, paper size, orientation and scale before saving. Apple documents this workflow in its Mac printing guide.
Save a webpage as a PDF on Mac
- Open the page in Safari or another Mac app that supports printing. Wait for the content you need to appear.
- Choose File > Print from the menu bar, or press Command-P.
- Review the preview and the print settings. Set a page range, paper size, portrait or landscape orientation, and scaling if necessary. Apple describes these controls in its print-settings guide.
- Click the PDF button at the bottom of the dialog. If it opens a menu, choose Save as PDF.
- Enter a filename, select a folder, and click Save.
The result is a locally stored PDF of the page as it was rendered for printing. You can open it in Preview, attach it to an email, upload it, or move it like any other file.
Why the Print dialog is the right route
Safari’s Save As command is not a PDF exporter. Apple’s Safari documentation lists Web Archive and Page Source as the Save As formats. A Web Archive stores page graphics and keeps links working while their destinations remain available; Page Source stores the page’s HTML source. Neither is the same as a print-ready PDF. For a PDF, use the print dialog instead. See Apple’s Safari webpage-saving guide and Mac printing guide.
You also do not need a printer connected. macOS can write the PDF directly to disk, and Apple says separate PDF software is not required for this basic export.

Make the PDF fit before you save it
Always inspect the preview rather than accepting the first layout. The available controls can vary by application, but these are the settings that most often determine whether a webpage is readable.
Choose the pages
Use the page-range field when you need only selected pages. A long article, terms page or documentation site may produce more pages than you want to share. Enter the required range in the format shown by the dialog, then confirm the preview updates.
Select paper size
Letter and A4 are common choices, but the correct size depends on where the PDF will be printed or viewed. Changing paper size can alter line wrapping and the total page count.
Switch between portrait and landscape
Portrait is usually easier for text-heavy pages. Landscape can prevent wide tables, dashboards or code blocks from being squeezed or clipped. Check every preview page after changing orientation.

Adjust scaling
If a column is cut off, reduce the scale. If text becomes uncomfortably small, increase it or use landscape instead. Scaling changes the amount of content on each sheet, so it can also change page breaks.
Account for application-specific options
macOS exposes some controls globally and others through the application’s own print panel. Apple notes that available print options vary by app. If a setting described here is missing, look for an expanded details button or an application-specific section in the same dialog.
Safari choices that are not PDFs
| Safari command | File produced | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| File > Print > PDF > Save as PDF | A rendered, shareable document whose pagination follows print settings. | |
| File > Save As > Web Archive | Web Archive | Saves page graphics and can preserve links while their destinations remain available. |
| File > Save As > Page Source | HTML source | Saves the page’s source code rather than its print layout. |
Some webpages may prevent Safari from saving items that appear on the page. That limitation affects Safari’s webpage-saving commands; when you need a PDF, the print workflow remains the relevant option.
Email a webpage as a PDF from Safari
If you want to send the page immediately rather than keep a local file, Safari’s Share menu can email a webpage in several forms, including PDF. Apple also lists webpage, link and Reader article options when the page is an article in its Safari sharing guide.

Use sharing when the recipient only needs the page sent through Mail. Use File > Print > Save as PDF when you need a named file in a specific folder, want to inspect pagination, or plan to upload the PDF elsewhere.
A reliable workflow for articles, receipts and documentation
- Prepare the page. Open the exact URL, dismiss anything that obscures the content, and wait for images or sections you expect to include.
- Open print preview. Confirm that the title, body text, images and tables appear. Scroll through the preview thumbnails.
- Set the output. Pick the page range, paper size, orientation and scale that match the intended use.
- Save with a useful name. Include the subject and date when that will help you find the file later, such as project-notes-2026-09-29.pdf.
- Verify the saved file. Open it from the destination folder and check the first, middle and final pages. If something is missing, return to the print dialog and change the relevant setting.
Troubleshooting common problems
There is no PDF button
Make sure you opened the system print dialog through File > Print, not Safari’s Save As window. In some apps, click the button that reveals full print details; the PDF control is normally at the bottom of the expanded dialog. If the app does not support printing, open the same page in a browser or another app that does.
The page is cut off on the right
Use landscape orientation or lower the scale, then inspect the preview again. A smaller paper size or an application-specific layout option can also change wrapping. Apple’s print-settings documentation covers these controls: print settings on Mac.
The PDF has too many pages
Set a narrower page range, reduce unnecessary scale, or change paper size. Do not judge by the browser’s on-screen length; print pagination is calculated separately and can produce different page breaks.

Text or images are missing
Wait for the page to finish loading and reopen the print preview. If the site blocks saving particular items, Safari may not be able to include them. You can also try printing from Reader view when Safari offers it for an article, then compare the preview with the normal page.
The file saved somewhere unexpected
The Save sheet uses the folder currently selected in the dialog. Repeat the export and choose a known location such as Downloads or Desktop, then open that folder in Finder to verify the filename.
I expected Save As to offer PDF
That expectation is the common source of confusion. Safari’s documented Save As formats are Web Archive and Page Source. PDF export is under File > Print, followed by the PDF menu.

Choose PDF when the recipient needs a stable, printable representation, when you are submitting a document, or when you need a single file that does not depend on Safari’s archive format. Choose Web Archive when preserving the page’s graphics and link structure for later Safari viewing is more important and the linked destinations are expected to remain available. Choose Page Source only when the HTML source itself is what you need to inspect or retain.

If you need repeatable captures for many URLs, a server-side option can avoid opening each page manually. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It can return PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF from one GET request, with options for full-page capture, lazy-loaded images, a CSS-selected element, dark mode, device and viewport settings, retina scale, PDF paper size, margins, landscape mode and page ranges.
Before capture, ScreenshotNeo can accept cookie or consent banners like a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed. The response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
It also supports custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks before capture, waits for a selector, delay or network idle, blocking ads, trackers, requests or resource types, custom headers, cookies, user agents and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, image resizing, configurable-TTL caching, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs work as well, which can simplify a migration. An MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
The command above follows the supplied example and writes the response to shot.webp. For a PDF, use the PDF output option documented by ScreenshotNeo and save with a .pdf filename.
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' }); const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
For API troubleshooting, first confirm that the access key is present, the target URL is correctly URL-encoded, and the output filename matches the requested format. Then inspect the response headers: X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed show whether the page was considered a clean capture and whether it was billable. Failed loads, bot checks, blank pages, timeouts and cache hits do not consume a billed shot.
