To save a web page as a PDF, open the browser’s print or share workflow and choose a PDF destination. On Windows and Mac, use the built-in print-to-PDF option; on Android, Chrome offers “Save as PDF” in its print workflow; on iPhone, Safari can save a marked-up webpage as a PDF in Files. Print preview also lets you adjust page range, orientation, margins, and other settings before saving.
Choose the method for your device
| Device and browser | Where to start | How the PDF is saved |
|---|---|---|
| Windows or Mac, desktop browser | Open Print from the browser or press the print shortcut | Choose a PDF destination, then save or print to a file |
| Android, Chrome | More > Share > Print | Select “Save as PDF” in the printer selector and choose where to save |
| iPhone, Safari | Page Menu or Share > Markup | Tap Done, choose Save File To, name the file, and save it |
These workflows use the built-in browser or operating-system tools documented here; you do not need a separate PDF app for the basic save operation. Where the file is stored depends on the destination you choose: desktop print dialogs let you select a save location, while iPhone Safari’s workflow saves through the Files location picker.
Save a web page as a PDF on Windows or Mac
Open the page, open its Print command, and inspect the preview before saving. The exact destination label depends on the operating system and browser. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau describes the general process: Windows users can press Ctrl+P and choose “Microsoft Print to PDF” or “Save as PDF,” then click Print and choose a location; Mac users can press Command+P and choose “Save as PDF” from the PDF menu. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau instructions
Chrome on desktop
- Open the webpage you want to keep.
- Open Print from the browser or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on Mac.
- In the print dialog, choose the PDF destination. Depending on the operating system, this may appear as “Save as PDF” or “Microsoft Print to PDF.”
- Check the preview and available page settings, then select Print or Save and choose a file name and location when prompted.
On Windows, “Microsoft Print to PDF” may be the system destination shown by the print dialog. On Mac, the PDF menu includes “Save as PDF.” The browser preview and the operating-system print dialog may not look identical, so use the destination and preview available on your device.

Firefox
- Open the Firefox menu and choose Print.
- In print preview, set Destination to “Save to PDF.”
- Review orientation, pages, paper size, scale, margins, headers and footers, and background options. If available, try Simplified format to reduce page clutter.
- Select Save to PDF and choose where to store the file.
Mozilla notes that webpages can be styled differently for paper than they are on screen, so the preview is important: line breaks, layout, and page count may change when the print layout is applied. Mozilla Firefox print help
Microsoft Edge
- Open the page and press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on Mac, or open the three-dot menu and choose Print.
- Choose a PDF destination in the print dialog.
- Use the controls for page range, orientation, paper size, margins, scaling, headers and footers, and background graphics to adjust the output.
- Inspect the preview, then print or save the PDF and choose a location if prompted.
If the preview omits colors or artwork that appear on the screen, check More settings > Background graphics. Microsoft notes that enabling background graphics can help the printout match the webpage. If the site supports it, Edge’s Immersive Reader can also provide a less cluttered page to print. Microsoft Edge print help
Save a web page as a PDF on Android
In Chrome on Android, the PDF option is inside the share and print workflow rather than the desktop-style browser print dialog.
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Tap More, then Share.
- Choose Print.
- Open the printer selector and choose “Save as PDF.”
- Choose where to save the file, then tap Print to create it.
Google’s Chrome Help describes the final action as tapping Save as PDF in the print preview. The precise storage prompt can depend on the Android device and its file-saving interface. Google Chrome Help for Android

Save a web page as a PDF on iPhone
In Safari on iPhone, use Markup from the Page Menu or Share workflow. You can add annotations before saving, or simply continue without making changes.
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu or Share button, then tap Markup.
- Optionally highlight, draw, or write notes on the page.
- Tap Done, choose Save File To, give the file a name, and tap Save.
Apple describes this as a way to mark up a webpage and share the document as a PDF. The Save File To step determines the destination in Files. Apple Support: Take a screenshot or screen recording on iPhone
Make the PDF cleaner and easier to read
Browser print output is not always a visual copy of the screen. Pages may use a separate print style, and elements such as backgrounds or sidebars may be omitted or rearranged. Start with the preview, then adjust the setting that matches the problem rather than changing every option at once.
- Ads, navigation, or other clutter: Try Firefox’s Simplified format if it is available. In Edge, use Immersive Reader as a printing workaround when the page supports it.
- Missing colors or images: In Edge, check More settings > Background graphics. This option can affect how closely the output matches the webpage.
- Too many pages or unwanted sections: Set a page range in Firefox or Edge if the unwanted material falls on separate pages. Preview the selected pages before saving.
- Content is too small or cut off: Review scaling, paper size, margins, and orientation in the print preview. Try landscape orientation when a wide layout is being squeezed into portrait pages, and inspect the preview again.
- You need to remove or rearrange page elements before printing: Mozilla names the Print Edit WE extension as an option for editing webpage content before printing. Check the extension’s compatibility with your Firefox version and review its terms before installing it.
Firefox and Edge provide several of these controls, but the precise available choices depend on the browser and print destination. Do not assume that a setting visible in one browser will appear in another.

Troubleshoot common PDF problems
The saved file is blank or does not contain the expected page
Return to the print preview and confirm that the correct page is open and the intended page range is selected. If the browser preview itself is blank or incomplete, reload the page and reopen Print. Save again only after the preview shows the content you intend to keep.
The PDF has the wrong orientation or page count
Check the preview’s orientation and page-range controls. Firefox and Edge expose both kinds of settings. A wide page may require landscape orientation; if only some pages are needed, enter a page range rather than saving the whole preview.
Background colors or artwork are missing
For Edge, open More settings and enable Background graphics when those elements are needed. Review the preview after changing the setting because backgrounds can change the output’s appearance and print layout.
The result is cluttered
Try Firefox’s Simplified format or Edge’s Immersive Reader if the site and browser offer them. If the page still needs editing, the Print Edit WE extension is an option named by Mozilla; verify that it works with your browser version and check its terms before use.

The browser preview does not match the on-screen page
This can happen because a webpage may apply different styling for paper than for the screen. Use the print preview to judge the PDF rather than assuming the on-screen layout will carry over unchanged. Adjust scale, margins, orientation, or backgrounds where those controls are available.
When a browser PDF is not the right output
The built-in print-to-PDF method is suitable when you are saving a page you can open in your own browser and want to review or adjust its print layout. If you need a repeatable capture from code, a server-side workflow may be more practical. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers; it can return a PDF as well as image formats. See ScreenshotNeo for the service details.
Or skip the browser setup
For a programmatic PDF capture, make one GET request with the URL and request a PDF response according to the ScreenshotNeo API documentation. The following cURL example saves the returned file; change only the target URL as needed:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
The supplied one-call example uses the API’s standard screenshot output filename. For a PDF, configure the request for PDF output using the API documentation rather than assuming this image filename produces a PDF.
