Short answer: switch the mobile browser to its desktop-site mode, reload the page, then use the browser’s separate print or PDF command. Desktop presentation and PDF pagination are different stages: asking for a desktop site does not guarantee a fixed desktop CSS viewport or desktop-style page breaks in the exported file. Open the PDF afterward and check its layout.
What “desktop-viewport PDF” means on a phone
A phone browser normally requests a mobile layout. The Desktop site or Request Desktop Website command changes the request so the site can serve its desktop presentation. The PDF command then creates a document from the page currently displayed (or from a screenshot, in Firefox for iPhone).
These controls do not establish a universal viewport width. A responsive site, browser print engine, CSS print rules, and page size can all change the result. Treat “desktop” as the requested site presentation, not a promise of desktop pixel geometry. If exact width matters, inspect the saved PDF on a larger screen before relying on it.
Android: Chrome
Request the desktop presentation
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu) and enable Desktop site.
- If the page still looks mobile, reload it. Some sites override a browser-wide preference; choose desktop view for that particular site if Chrome presents a site-specific option.
Chrome can remember desktop mode and lets you manage exceptions under Settings > Site settings > Desktop site. The setting controls the site request; it does not create the PDF.

Save the page as PDF
- With the desktop presentation visible, open More > Share > Print.
- Wait for print preview to render.
- Choose Save as PDF as the printer or destination.
- Select a location on the phone, confirm the filename, and save.
Open the resulting file from your Files app. Check headings, columns, images, links, and page breaks; print preview may apply print-specific CSS that differs from the screen.
iPhone: Safari
Request Desktop Website
- Open the page in Safari.
- Open the Page Menu in the address bar and tap Request Desktop Website, when that command is available.
- Allow the page to reload. If it does not change, reload manually and check the Page Menu again.
Save a PDF through Share and Markup
- Tap Share.
- Tap Markup. Safari prepares a PDF of the webpage.
- Tap Done, choose Save File To, select a folder, name the file, and tap Save.
This Safari workflow saves a webpage PDF, but Apple’s instructions do not specify a fixed desktop viewport width for the exported document. Inspect the file for clipping or unexpected reflow.
iPhone: Firefox
Switch a site to Desktop Site
- Open the page in Firefox for iOS.
- Open Page Actions and choose Desktop Site.
- Firefox remembers that choice for the site until you return to Mobile Site.
Create the PDF from a full-page screenshot
- Take a screenshot while the page is open.
- In the screenshot interface, select Full Page.
- Tap Done, then choose Save as PDF.
This is a screenshot-based PDF, not a print-preview export. Very long pages can produce a large file, and the result follows the screenshot’s rendering rather than a printer’s pagination rules.
Firefox for Android: verify the current menu
Mozilla’s help index lists guides titled Save web pages as PDF in Firefox for Android and Use the in-browser print function on Firefox for Android. The available documentation listing confirms those topics but does not expose a dependable current menu sequence here. Firefox labels and Android integrations change, so open the current in-app menu or Mozilla help page instead of applying Chrome’s steps by assumption. Once you find the PDF or print command, first enable Firefox’s desktop-site option, reload, and then verify the saved file’s layout.

Use Chrome when you want a conventional print-preview PDF. Use Firefox for iPhone when a full-page screenshot is acceptable and you want the page captured as rendered. Safari’s Share and Markup route is convenient when the file should go directly to Files.
Getting a cleaner, more predictable file
Before saving
- Wait until images, fonts, menus, and lazy-loaded sections finish loading.
- Dismiss cookie banners, newsletter prompts, and chat bubbles when they obscure content.
- Scroll through long pages once if images appear only as you approach them.
- Check that the desktop version did not sign you out or redirect to a different URL.
After saving
- Open the PDF and search for text; a screenshot-based file may behave differently from a print export.
- Check the first and last pages for cut-off headers, footers, or cookie notices.
- Confirm that tables and wide navigation are not clipped at the paper edge.
- Rename the file with the page title and date so a later desktop-mode capture is distinguishable.
Troubleshooting
The page still looks mobile
Reload after enabling desktop mode. If it remains mobile, the website may override the browser preference, require a site-specific desktop exception, or use a responsive design that looks similar at the phone’s available width. Desktop mode cannot force a site to implement a desktop layout.
Print preview is blank or missing images
Return to the page, wait for network activity and lazy images to finish, then print again. Sign-in walls, script errors, blocked third-party resources, and print-specific CSS can also remove content. Try saving after scrolling through the page.
The PDF has unexpected page breaks
Print engines apply paper size, margins, and print CSS. A desktop-site request does not disable those rules. If the exact screen appearance matters more than selectable text, Firefox for iPhone’s full-page screenshot route may be a better fit, although it creates an image-based PDF.

Safari does not show Request Desktop Website
The command is only offered when available for that page. Open the Page Menu after the page loads, and try the site’s own desktop-view control if it provides one.
The Firefox for iPhone PDF is enormous
A full-page screenshot can contain a very tall raster image. Crop unnecessary content before saving, or use a print-preview workflow in a browser that offers one when selectable, paginated text is more important.
I cannot find Firefox for Android’s PDF command
Do not use an old menu recipe blindly. Mozilla maintains separate help topics for saving pages as PDF and for in-browser printing; consult the current Firefox help or inspect the current app menu, then verify the output.

Phone exports are free but depend on the current browser session, page state, and device storage. For recurring jobs, an API gives you a URL-based workflow, explicit waits, cookies and headers, cache TTLs, and asynchronous signed webhooks. Only clean shots are billed; failed or unusable outcomes listed above are identified in the response so a pipeline can decide whether to retry. Is a screenshot PDF searchable?
Searchability depends on how the browser creates it. Print-generated PDFs commonly preserve text; a full-page screenshot route may produce image content instead.
