First decide which result you need
There are two different jobs commonly described as “saving a screenshot as a PDF.”
- Convert an existing screenshot: You already have a PNG, JPG, or similar image and need a PDF copy. Use your device’s export or print-to-PDF function.
- Capture a whole webpage or document as a PDF: You need more than the visible screen. Use a full-page capture feature where your platform supports it, rather than stitching many ordinary screenshots.
A regular screenshot remains an image until you complete the PDF export or print step. Always inspect the preview for cropping, excessive margins, orientation, and the destination filename.
Windows 10 and Windows 11
Convert a saved screenshot with Snipping Tool
- Press Windows logo key + Shift + S, select the area to capture, or open Snipping Tool and choose a capture mode.
- Open the capture in Snipping Tool, make any edits, and save it as an image file.
- Open the saved image in an app that has a Print command.
- Choose Microsoft Print to PDF as the printer or destination, when it is listed.
- Set orientation, paper size, scaling, and margins in the print dialog. Select Print, then choose a filename and folder for the PDF.
Snipping Tool is designed to capture all or part of the screen, edit a snip, and save it. The exact print menu depends on the image viewer and Windows build, but the virtual Microsoft Print to PDF destination is the key conversion step.

Prevent Windows cropping
- Choose Fit or an equivalent option when the screenshot is wider or taller than the selected paper.
- Use landscape orientation for a wide capture.
- Use the print preview to confirm that the entire image is present before saving.
Mac
Export an image from Preview
- Find the screenshot and open it in Preview.
- Choose File > Export.
- Select PDF as the format, choose a name and location, and save.
Preview can export an image to another file format, including PDF when that format is offered in the export panel.
Use the Mac print dialog
- Open the screenshot in Preview and choose File > Print.
- Review paper size, orientation, scale, and image placement.
- Open the PDF menu or button in the print dialog and select Save as PDF.
- Enter a filename, select a folder, and save.
Mac can create a PDF without a physical printer. In Preview’s print options, Print Entire Image is intended to keep the full screenshot visible. Fill Entire Paper can enlarge the image to fill the page and may crop edges when the image and paper proportions differ.
iPhone and iPad
Save a full webpage as a PDF
For a supported webpage or other content that offers full-page capture:
- Take a screenshot.
- Tap the screenshot preview or thumbnail to open the screenshot controls.
- Select Full Page.
- Choose Save PDF to Files.
- Select an iCloud Drive or on-device folder, name the file, and tap Save.
This creates a PDF in the Files app rather than an ordinary photo-library image. It is the better choice when the page extends below the visible screen.

Convert a regular iPhone screenshot
A normal screenshot is generally stored as an image. Open it in an app or share workflow that provides Print or PDF export, then select a PDF destination and save to Files. The labels vary by iOS release and by app; newer iOS versions may present different screenshot controls than earlier releases. If the screenshot interface does not show Full Page, the content or app may not support a full-page PDF capture.
Android
Use Chrome’s print preview
- Open the screenshot image in Chrome. You can also use this method for a page or another file that Chrome can display.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Share > Print.
- In the print preview, select Save as PDF.
- Choose the device location, enter a filename, and save.
Gallery applications from different manufacturers may expose their own Print action, but wording and availability vary by Android release, phone maker, and app. If your gallery has no print command, open the image in Chrome or another application that provides printing.
Image PDF versus a true webpage PDF

Converting a screenshot image usually places one raster image on a PDF page. Text may not be selectable and the file does not automatically become searchable. A full-page capture can include more content than the visible screen, but it is still a visual capture unless a separate OCR process is used.
Quality, layout, and file checks
- Check the page boundary: confirm that no browser controls or important edges were clipped.
- Choose orientation deliberately: landscape often suits wide web interfaces; portrait suits phone screens and tall pages.
- Control scaling: “Fit” keeps the image visible, while “Fill” can crop. Large margins usually indicate a mismatch between image and paper proportions.
- Verify the output type: inspect the filename extension or file information. A file ending in .png or .jpg has not been converted.
- Confirm the save location: Windows and Mac dialogs ask for a folder; Android’s documented flow asks you to choose a device location; iPhone full-page captures go through Files.

Troubleshooting
The file is still a PNG or JPG
You saved the screenshot but did not complete the export or print-to-PDF step. Reopen the image, choose Print or Export, select a PDF destination, and save a new file.

The PDF is cropped
Return to the preview and switch from Fill to Fit, enable Print Entire Image on Mac, change orientation, or select a larger paper size. Cropping occurs when the screenshot’s proportions do not match the paper.
The PDF has huge blank margins
Reduce the scale or choose a layout that fits the image to the page. A phone-shaped screenshot printed on letter or A4 paper naturally leaves unused space unless you change the scale.
There is no Print option
Open the image in another application with printing support. On Android, Chrome’s More > Share > Print route is a documented fallback.
The webpage is too long
Use iPhone’s Full Page capture where available, or use an automated webpage capture service that supports full-page PDF output. Do not rely on manually joining many screenshots unless you need a quick visual record.
