For a full Safari webpage, take a screenshot, tap Full Page, then choose Save to Photos for an image—not Save PDF to Files. Apple describes the full-page Photos option as an image save but does not specify its filename extension, so verify the exported file if it must specifically be PNG.
Choose the right screenshot and save destination
iPhone offers two separate choices: capture only what is visible or capture the full webpage, and save a full-page capture as an image in Photos or as a PDF in Files. Apple documents the standard screenshot destination as Photos and labels the full-page choices Save to Photos and Save PDF to Files. Apple’s iPhone screenshot guide explains these capture and save options.

Set regular screenshots to PNG
- Open Settings > General > Screen Capture.
- Select SDR. Apple states that screenshots use PNG in SDR and HEIF in HDR. See Apple’s screen capture settings guide.
- Open the webpage in Safari and capture the screen. On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the Side button and Volume Up together. On an iPhone with a Home button, quickly press and release the Side button and Home button together.
- Find the screenshot in Photos. Apple says ordinary screenshots are saved there by default.
Save a full Safari webpage as an image
- In Safari, navigate to the webpage and take a screenshot using your iPhone’s button combination.
- Tap the screenshot preview, then tap Full Page.
- Review the long-page preview and crop it if needed.
- Choose Save to Photos for an image. Choose Save PDF to Files only if you want a PDF.
The full-page guide identifies the Photos destination as an image save but does not explicitly say the resulting file extension is .png. If a recipient or workflow requires an actual PNG, use SDR and check the saved file’s format rather than assuming the full-page export has that extension.
Why Safari saved a PDF
Safari has a separate webpage-to-PDF route: Share > Markup > Done. Apple documents this flow as annotating and saving a webpage as a PDF, so use the screenshot preview’s Full Page option and select Save to Photos when you want an image. The PDF workflow is described in Apple’s Safari PDF guide.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Troubleshooting
- The screenshot is HEIF, not PNG: Check Settings > General > Screen Capture and choose SDR rather than HDR.
- The webpage capture is a PDF: In the Full Page screenshot preview, choose Save to Photos, not Save PDF to Files. If you used Safari’s Share and Markup flow, that route is for saving a PDF.
- You cannot find a regular screenshot in Files: Apple says standard screenshots are saved to Photos by default. Look in Photos rather than expecting the PDF destination.
- You need a full-page file whose extension is certainly .png: Apple’s full-page instructions say the Photos choice saves an image but do not name its extension. Verify the exported file’s format before relying on it as PNG.

For developer workflows that need a website capture without operating Safari manually, ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API. Its one-call request can return a screenshot; set the output format as needed in the API options documented at ScreenshotNeo’s API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits cost nothing. It also has an MCP server for AI agents, with tools including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
