A browser export captures what is on screen, not a permanent database export. A missing dot does not prove that no camera exists: the map says its coverage depends on volunteer reports and may be incomplete or out of date.

What you are actually saving
The Flock Camera Locations page describes a live interactive map of Flock Safety cameras and other automated license plate readers across the United States. Its camera data is attributed to OpenStreetMap contributors. The page says cameras load automatically for the area being viewed and that selecting a red dot can reveal details where they are known.

Counts change over time
The page reports more than 150,000 cameras, reports in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, and says about 77% of entries are explicitly tagged as Flock Safety devices. Those are live figures reported in 2026, not fixed totals. Put the access date in the filename, caption or notes whenever the map may be used in a report.
Save the map as a PDF in a desktop browser
- Open the map and wait. Load the Flock-camera map in a desktop browser. Give the base map and red camera dots time to appear. If you print immediately, the preview can contain an empty or partly rendered map.
- Set the extent. Zoom and pan until the complete area of interest, labels and camera pins are visible. The exported PDF normally reflects the current page layout and viewport; it will not automatically include places outside the view you prepared.
- Clear the layout. Close or collapse side panels, pop-ups and floating controls. This leaves more room for the map and reduces the chance that a panel covers pins or labels in the print preview.
- Open the browser print dialog. Choose Print from the browser menu, or use the standard print shortcut:
Ctrl+Pon Windows and Linux orCommand+Pon macOS. - Choose a PDF destination. Select Save as PDF. On Windows, Microsoft Print to PDF is an equivalent destination.
- Choose orientation and graphics. Use landscape when the map is wider than it is tall. Enable Background graphics (the wording varies by browser) if the preview loses the basemap, colored pins or shaded areas.
- Inspect before saving. Look for clipped labels, missing red dots, blank map tiles and panels covering the map. If anything is wrong, cancel, adjust the browser zoom or map extent, wait for loading to finish and print again.
- Name the file for later verification. A filename such as
flock-camera-map-chicago-2026-10-16.pdfpreserves the place and capture date. Also keep the map URL and, if useful, a note about the zoom level.
Why a PDF is useful
- It preserves a page-oriented layout for printing or formal records.
- It is convenient when the map must be combined with written notes or route directions.
- It may retain selectable page text, although map labels and tiles are often rendered as graphics.
Use MapQuest’s print flow when the map is on a route page
MapQuest’s documented support procedure is for printing a route with its directions and map. It is not a promise of a one-click export for a third-party Flock-camera layer. Use it when you are working from a MapQuest route page:
- Create the route.
- Choose View Route Directions.
- Click Print.
- In the print options, select Directions & Map.
- Click the green Print button on the browser print page.
- Choose Save as PDF or Microsoft Print to PDF in the system print dialog.
If the Flock layer is an independent map rather than a layer in the route page, use the general browser workflow instead. The route procedure can print the route map, but it does not add an export control to a separate community map.

Save the visible map as a PNG or JPG
- Prepare the view first. Set the zoom and pan exactly as you would for a PDF. Only the visible rectangle will be captured.
- Start the built-in screen capture. Windows users can open Snipping Tool; macOS users can use the area screenshot command; Linux desktop environments commonly provide a Screenshot utility. Select a rectangular area rather than capturing the whole desktop.
- Capture the map rectangle. Include the legend, scale or attribution if they are needed to interpret the image, but exclude tabs, the address bar and unrelated browser controls.
- Crop and annotate carefully. Remove browser chrome and floating controls. Do not crop away a legend or attribution that gives the map context. If you add an arrow or label, keep an unmodified copy as well.
- Choose the format. Save as PNG when text, road labels and colored camera pins must remain crisp. Save as JPG when a smaller file is more important and slight compression is acceptable.
- Record provenance. Put the map URL and access date in the image metadata, a sidecar note or the document where you insert the image. Community-reported locations can change after the capture.

Why the camera pins disappear in a PDF

Make the export reproducible
Capture the same view deliberately
- Use a consistent browser window size and orientation when creating a series of maps.
- Keep the zoom level and center point in your notes so another person can recreate the view.
- Wait for lazy-loaded tiles and pins before every capture, even if a nearby view loaded quickly.
- Save the original screenshot or PDF before adding annotations or resizing it for publication.
Preserve context
Include a title or caption with the place, access date, map URL and a statement that the locations are community reported. If you are showing selected red dots, explain the selection rule rather than implying that unmarked roads have no cameras. The map itself says a Flock camera is an automated license plate reader that photographs the rear of passing vehicles and records plate, vehicle-detail, time and place information; an exported map does not expose or verify those underlying records.
Choose PDF or image by the job
Use PDF when the reader needs a printable page, route directions or a fixed layout. Use PNG when the map will be enlarged in a slide or report and pin sharpness matters. Use JPG for a quick, smaller attachment. Both PDF and image captures preserve only the current visible extent, so neither is a substitute for a data download.

FAQ
Can I export every camera as a data file?
No export or complete database download is established by the map information described here. The browser methods save the rendered view. For a data-quality project, preserve the dated map images and treat them as observations rather than a complete camera registry.
Will printing reveal details behind a red camera dot?
Printing preserves what is visible on the page. If a dot has a details panel, open it before capturing only if you want that panel included; otherwise close it so it does not cover nearby pins.
Does a PDF prove that a camera was operating on the capture date?
No. It shows that a community map displayed a reported location at the time you captured it. It does not verify installation, operation or access to any underlying plate-reader records.
What should I keep with an image sent to someone else?
Send the original file when possible, plus the map URL, access date, place, and a note that the map is independently maintained and may be incomplete or out of date.
