On a desktop, open the government webpage in Chrome and press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on a Mac. Choose Save as PDF as the destination, check the preview and settings, then save. On Android Chrome, use More > Share > Print, select Save as PDF, choose a location and save. If the portal provides an official PDF of the notice, order or form you need, keep that original file too: a printed webpage is not necessarily the same document.
Before you save: choose the right record
Check that you have opened the intended page and that its address and contents identify the relevant government service, notice or update. A gov.in or nic.in address is a useful official-status indicator under the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites and Apps (GIGW), but it does not by itself establish that a particular page or document is current. If the page links to an official downloadable PDF, decide whether that file is the record you actually need. For a circular, order, notification or form, the original linked document may be more useful than a browser-generated PDF of the page. Keep both when the page provides context you may need later. Save a government webpage as PDF in desktop Chrome
- Open the exact page in Chrome and wait for its visible content to load. Check the address bar, page heading and relevant notice or date.
- Open printing with Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. You can also choose File > Print where that menu is available.
- In the print dialog, set the destination to Save as PDF (the wording or available destination may vary by operating system).
- Review the preview and available settings, such as page range, layout and margins. Options differ by system. Make sure the content you need is included and not cut off.
- Select Save, choose a folder and give the file a descriptive name, such as
department-notice-2026-10-03.pdf.

Save a page as PDF in Chrome on Android
- Open the government page in Chrome for Android and wait for the relevant content to appear.
- Tap More > Share > Print.
- Open the printer selector and choose Save as PDF.
- Choose the save location and save the file.
These steps are for Chrome on Android; Google lists them in its Android printing help. Menu names and available choices can vary with Chrome version, device and page design. These instructions do not establish the exact steps for iPhone or iPad, or for other browsers.
Check the saved PDF before relying on it
Open the file you saved and inspect it rather than assuming the print preview captured everything correctly. Check that the page title and the specific information you need are present, and that dates, identifiers, tables and page edges are legible. Look for blank pages, missing sections, clipped columns or text that became too small to read. If something important is absent, try adjusting the available layout or margins and save another copy.

GIGW includes requirements for government websites to print correctly on A4, but that is a site-design standard—not a guarantee that every page will print cleanly in every browser or on every device. Its guidance also calls for downloadable materials to have clear details such as title, format, size and instructions. See the GIGW guidance.
Keep useful context with the file
For ordinary reference, use a filename that identifies the subject and date you saved it, and retain the source URL alongside the PDF—for example, in a note or in the filename if practical. If an official PDF is linked from the page, save that file as well when it is the document of record. A local printout is a snapshot of what the browser rendered; it does not automatically establish that the page was complete, authentic or up to date when saved.

Does a webpage PDF count as proof in India?
Saving a page as PDF does not, by itself, guarantee that the copy will be accepted as evidence or be sufficient for a particular proceeding. The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 addresses electronic and digital records in sections 61–63. Section 61 does not deny a record evidentiary status solely because it is electronic or digital, subject to section 63; sections 62 and 63 address proof of contents and conditions relating to computer output. How those provisions apply depends on the circumstances and the requirements of the matter.
If the record relates to a consequential dispute, official filing or deadline, keep the source URL and any original linked document, and obtain case-specific legal advice.
