Use Firefox desktop when you need a full-page PNG, and use the iPhone screenshot workflow when you need a full-page PDF. Microsoft Edge also captures an entire webpage, although its cited documentation does not specify the exported file extension. Full-page capture and file format are separate capabilities: a browser that can capture beyond the viewport may not offer both PNG and PDF export.

Browser controls and exports can change with release, device, market and operating system. Edge specifically warns that availability and functionality vary by device type, market and browser version. Check the current interface if a label differs from the steps below.
Save a full-page screenshot as PNG in Firefox desktop
Mozilla documents a built-in full-page capture in Firefox. Its example download filename uses the .png extension, making this the clearest documented desktop route when the required output is a PNG image. See Mozilla’s Take screenshots in Firefox guide (last updated June 15, 2026) for the current controls.
- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page. Firefox expands the selection beyond the visible viewport.
- Download the image. The documented example filename ends in
.png; confirm the extension in your save dialog before renaming or moving the file.
When Firefox’s other capture modes are better
Firefox also offers a selected-region capture and a visible-area capture. Choose those when you need only one component or the currently displayed screen; neither is a substitute for Save full page when content below the fold matters.

Why a full-page PNG can be large
A long page becomes one tall raster image. Image dimensions and file size depend on page length, viewport and rendered content. If the result is unwieldy for email or printing, use a PDF workflow instead of treating a PNG as a document format.
Capture and save a full webpage in Microsoft Edge
Edge’s built-in Screenshot tool can capture an entire webpage, a selected area and markup. Microsoft’s feature page does not identify the saved image’s extension, so do not assume the result is PNG without checking the save dialog or the file itself. Follow the instructions at Microsoft’s Screenshot Tool in Microsoft Edge page.
- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open the page’s right-click menu and choose Screenshot.
- Select Capture full page.
- Use the overlay’s save control to save the capture to files. If you need to annotate it, apply the available markup before saving.
If you require a specifically documented PNG export, use Firefox desktop. If you require a PDF, use the iPhone workflow below or a PDF-print route supported by your operating system; the cited Edge page alone does not establish a PDF or PNG extension.
Save a full-page screenshot as a PDF on iPhone
Apple documents full-page capture in Safari and saving it as a PDF to Files. Apple describes the feature as capturing content beyond the screen, such as an entire webpage. The documented output for this route is PDF, not PNG. See Apple’s Take a screenshot on iPhone guide for iOS 27.

- Take a screenshot. On an iPhone with Face ID, press and release the Side and Volume Up buttons together. On an iPhone with a Home button, press and release Home and Side together.
- Tap the screenshot preview that appears.
- Tap Full Page. The preview now represents the page beyond the visible screen.
- Tap Save PDF to Files, choose a folder and confirm.
Apple’s guide states: “You can capture what’s on your iPhone screen, grab a full page beyond the edge of the screen, or save a specific portion.” The button combination depends on your iPhone model, while the labels can vary with iOS updates.

If Full Page is missing
- Make sure you opened the screenshot preview immediately after taking the screenshot.
- Use a webpage view that supports full-page capture; some app screens and protected content expose only the visible image.
- Update iOS if the controls do not match Apple’s current guide, then try again.
Save a full-page PDF in Firefox for iOS
Mozilla’s Firefox for iOS guide documents a similar hardware-button workflow ending in PDF export. The guide was created January 5, 2023, so verify the interface in your installed Firefox and iOS versions. Instructions are available at Mozilla’s Save web pages as PDFs in Firefox for iOS page.
- Open the webpage in Firefox for iOS.
- Take a screenshot with your iPhone’s hardware buttons.
- Open the screenshot preview and select Full Page.
- Tap Done.
- Choose Save as PDF and select the destination.
This route is an alternative to Safari when you already browse in Firefox. It is still a PDF workflow; it does not document PNG export.
What to do when you need both PDF and PNG
No single cited built-in workflow promises both formats on every platform. Decide which file is authoritative:
- Choose PNG for a pixel-based image you will place in a design, compare visually or embed in an image-only document. Firefox desktop is the strongest documented path here.
- Choose PDF for a multipage document that can be opened, shared and printed. The iPhone and Firefox for iOS procedures explicitly save a full page as PDF.
- Need both? Capture the full page using the route that supports your primary format, then convert a copy with a trusted local image or PDF editor. Conversion changes the container and may change quality; it does not restore content that was never captured.
Do not rename a PDF to .png or a PNG to .pdf. A filename extension does not convert the underlying file.
Optional browser extensions
The Chrome Web Store listing for Full Page Screen Capture advertises full-page capture with PNG and PDF options. Treat the listing as an advertised feature set, not a guarantee for every browser version or site. Before installing any extension, check its current browser support, permissions, privacy terms, whether processing occurs locally or remotely, export limits and price. Those details can change, and the listing alone does not establish an affiliate relationship or a particular service level.

When an extension is unnecessary
Do not install software merely to capture one page if Firefox, Edge or your iPhone already provides the required format. Built-in tools reduce the number of permissions and moving parts. An extension becomes useful when you need a repeatable workflow that your browser’s native tool does not provide.
Troubleshooting full-page captures
The bottom of the page is missing
Confirm that you selected Save full page or Capture full page, rather than the visible-area option. Pages that load content only after scrolling may also need time to finish rendering. Wait for images and interactive sections before starting the capture.
Images or fonts appear blank
Some resources load asynchronously, require interaction or are blocked by the site. Refresh, wait until the page is stable and try again. If the site requires a login, authenticate in the same browser tab before capturing, while respecting the site’s terms and privacy requirements.
A cookie banner, chat bubble or newsletter covers the page
Dismiss overlays before capturing. A full-page tool generally records what the browser renders; it does not automatically produce a clean version of a page hidden behind consent dialogs or widgets.
The screenshot is extremely tall or difficult to use
That is expected for a long raster image. Capture only the needed region when a full page is unnecessary, or save a PDF for document-style sharing. For a very long page, consider whether separate section captures are clearer for your audience.

Edge does not show the same controls
Microsoft notes that availability varies by device type, market and browser version. Update Edge, check the right-click menu and use the documented shortcut. If the feature remains unavailable, use Firefox desktop or an approved extension.

iPhone saved only the visible screen
Open the screenshot preview, tap Full Page, and then choose Save PDF to Files. If Full Page is absent, the current app view may not support it; try the webpage in Safari or Firefox for iOS.
The file opens with the wrong extension
Use the format named by the workflow rather than guessing from the filename. Firefox’s documented example is PNG; Apple and Firefox for iOS document PDF. Edge’s cited page does not state an extension, so inspect the saved file before automating around it.

Practical checklist before you save
- Confirm the page has finished loading, including lazy images.
- Close consent dialogs, popups and chat widgets unless your chosen service handles them.
- Choose the required format first: PNG for an image, PDF for a document.
- Use the full-page command, not visible-area capture.
- Open the saved file and verify the bottom, images, links or text that matter.
- For repeatable or multi-URL work, use an API with explicit verdict, billing and output headers.
