Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDo not restore onto the existing AhsayCBS server. Treat a suspected web-shell incident as an active compromise: isolate the host, preserve evidence, install the current branch-specific hotfix, rebuild Windows or Linux from trusted media, and only then restore a server-configuration Auto Save version that predates the intrusion. Finally rotate every credential stored on or reachable from the server, test representative restores, run restore drills, and monitor for persistence.
A patch closes the exploited entry point; it does not remove web shells, altered operating-system components, scheduled tasks, or stolen credentials. Bitdefender reached that conclusion after three 2026 MDR investigations, while Ahsay recommends a full rebuild for a known-clean state.

Why a web-shell compromise requires a rebuild
Ahsay reported unauthorized-access incidents beginning 9 October 2026. The observed attack chain combined authentication bypass with operating-system command injection. An attacker who reached AhsayCBS could plant a JSP web shell, create accounts, add remote-access services, alter scheduled tasks, or leave behind tools that remain dormant. Reconnecting a patched but previously compromised operating system therefore preserves an unknown trust problem.
Bitdefender’s 15 October 2026 advisory states that earlier patches did not fully fix the flaws and warns that “quiet is not the same as clean.” Ahsay’s own recovery guidance says a full operating-system rebuild is the way to ensure the backup server is free from issues resulting from CVE-2026-105133 and CVE-2026-105134.

Indicators that should trigger compromise handling
If any of these artifacts or changes is present, stop treating the event as an ordinary update and follow the incident runbook:
- Unexpected root-level folders named
ahsay_ts,ahsay_t8,ahsay_t9,ahsay_t20,ahsay_t21,srv,user, oropt. - Randomly named
.jspfiles or lower-case alphanumeric folders beneath%CBS%webapps. - Receivers in the Remote Protection System (RPS) that nobody authorized.
- AhsayCBS users with Admin privilege that your team did not create.
Ahsay says any one of these indicators warrants treating the server as compromised. Do not delete suspicious files before collecting evidence if legal, insurance, or forensic investigation may be required.
What changed in the fixed builds
Ahsay released the following hotfixes in October 2026. The version pairing matters: install the stated base build first, then its matching hotfix, before exposing the rebuilt server to production traffic.
| Installed branch | Required base version | Hotfix | Release date | Recovery note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| v10 | v10.3.4.0 | v10.3.4.45 | 10 October 2026 | Ahsay says this hotfix addresses both CVE-2026-105133 and CVE-2026-105134. |
| v9 | v9.15.0.0 | v9.15.2.70 | 12 October 2026 | Ahsay says this hotfix addresses both CVEs. |
| v7 or v8 | Upgrade to v9.15.0.0 | v9.15.2.70 | 12 October 2026 | Ahsay directs v7 and v8 operators to move to v9.15.0.0 before applying the v9 hotfix. |
Use the exact branch and build shown in the installed product, not a similarly named package. Bitdefender’s incident work is why an in-place update should be considered containment only; it is not evidence that an old operating system is clean.
First response: contain the host and preserve evidence
1. Restrict network access
Remove the affected server from normal ingress and egress paths. Block public administration and web access, limit management to a controlled forensic network, and stop services that are not needed to preserve logs or collect evidence. Do not reconnect backup agents, storage targets, domain services, or customer-facing interfaces merely to see whether they still work.
2. Preserve a defensible record
- Record the host name, IP addresses, operating-system version, AhsayCBS branch and build, administrator accounts, and the time the incident was discovered.
- Acquire copies of disk images or snapshots using your incident-response process. Preserve Ahsay, web, authentication, operating-system, process, scheduled-task, and network-connection logs.
- Record full paths, hashes where practical, ownership, and creation or modification timestamps for suspicious folders, JSP files, users, receivers, services, and tasks.
- Write down every containment change and who approved it. Keep the original evidence read-only and work from copies.
Evidence collection and service restoration can conflict. If you need forensic findings, collect the evidence before powering down, deleting web shells, or rebuilding. If business continuity requires immediate action, preserve a snapshot and the relevant logs before making changes.
3. Establish the incident timeline
Write down the earliest known suspicious timestamp, the first alert, the discovery time, and every subsequent administrative action. Compare filesystem times with Ahsay, web, authentication, process, task, and network logs. The earliest suspicious artifact is the reference point for choosing Auto Save, but conflicting clocks or copied files can make a timestamp misleading. When dates cannot be reconciled, use an older known-good configuration and obtain incident-response guidance rather than selecting the newest available copy.

Rebuild the operating system and AhsayCBS
The clean-state sequence below is the safest recovery path. Perform it on a newly installed Windows or Linux host, not on the compromised system.
- Provision a replacement host. Use trusted installation media, current firmware and operating-system updates, and a network segment that is not carrying the compromised server’s credentials or management sessions.
- Apply baseline hardening. Limit inbound administration to approved addresses, remove unnecessary services, enable host logging, synchronize time, and configure outbound filtering appropriate to your environment.
- Install the correct AhsayCBS base build. Use v10.3.4.0 for the v10 path or v9.15.0.0 for the v9 path. Operators coming from v7 or v8 should use the v9 upgrade path specified by Ahsay.
- Install the matching hotfix immediately. Apply v10.3.4.45 to v10 or v9.15.2.70 to v9 before allowing production clients, administrators, or public traffic to connect.
- Verify the running build. Check the AhsayCBS version screen and installation files, record the result, and confirm that no unexpected JSP files, lower-case alphanumeric web directories, users, RPS receivers, services, or scheduled tasks exist on the new host.
- Recreate integrations deliberately. Add only the storage targets, service accounts, domain relationships, certificates, agents, and monitoring integrations that are required. Do not copy an entire old system disk or wholesale application directory.
A rebuild is slower than patching in place, but it removes unknown operating-system persistence. Treat the old host as evidence or quarantine it; do not use it as the source for executables, scripts, or credentials.
Keep the replacement isolated during setup
Install and test the replacement in a restricted network before opening production paths. Connect only to the repositories and identity systems needed for the next validation step. This staged approach lets you verify the build, configuration, and credentials without giving an untested server broad administrative reach. Open normal ingress, egress, and client connections only after the hotfix, configuration review, credential rotation, and restore tests are complete.
Selecting a safe Auto Save configuration
Restore the AhsayCBS server configuration from Auto Save, not an unexamined snapshot of the compromised host. The selected version must predate the compromise. Ahsay’s best practice is to choose a version whose timestamp is at least one day earlier than the timestamp of the earliest suspicious folder or file.
How to choose the version
- Establish the earliest reliable timestamp for suspicious activity: a web-shell file, unexpected root folder, unauthorized account, RPS receiver, task, or service.
- List available Auto Save server-configuration versions with their timestamps and integrity or availability status.
- Choose the newest version that is still at least 24 hours earlier than that earliest suspicious timestamp. The one-day interval is Ahsay’s recovery guidance, not a statistical estimate of attacker dwell time.
- If timestamps are unreliable, conflict across systems, or no version meets the interval, select an older known-good version and involve incident-response personnel rather than guessing.
- Restore the configuration into the rebuilt, hotfixed installation. Review administrators, receivers, destinations, schedules, scripts, certificates, and network settings before enabling jobs.
Configuration restoration does not prove that backed-up files are safe or complete. It recreates the AhsayCBS settings needed to operate; each data set still requires validation through controlled restores.
Review the restored configuration before activation
Compare the restored administrator list with your incident record, remove anything unrecognized, and check every RPS receiver and destination. Review schedules for unexpected jobs, scripts for unfamiliar paths, certificates for unapproved additions, and network settings for public exposure that is not required. Enable backup and replication jobs in stages so an error can be isolated without creating a second uncontrolled change.
Rotate credentials reachable from the compromised host
Assume that secrets available to processes on the server may have been exposed. Rotate them after the replacement host is ready, using a separate trusted workstation and a staged cutover so the old secrets cannot continue to authenticate.

| Credential class | Action |
|---|---|
| AhsayCBS administrators | Reset every administrator password, remove unrecognized users, review privilege assignments, and require unique strong credentials. |
| Backup destinations | Change passwords, API keys, access keys, and connection secrets for repositories or cloud storage configured in AhsayCBS. |
| Service accounts | Rotate accounts used by AhsayCBS, agents, schedulers, database connections, and monitoring; update the new host with the replacement secrets. |
| Domain and infrastructure accounts | Reset domain, directory, remote-management, certificate, and network-service credentials that were stored on or reachable from the server. |
| Credentials with no path to the host | Bitdefender says these do not require rotation solely because of this incident, although your broader response policy may still require a reset. |
Invalidate active sessions and tokens where the relevant system supports it. Check for newly created keys, certificates, OAuth grants, or API users rather than assuming a password change removed every access path.

Then rotate storage, service, domain, certificate, and monitoring secrets, updating the replacement host immediately after each change. Test each integration with the least privilege needed. Keep the old host unable to reach identity and storage systems while old credentials are being revoked, and record which systems confirmed revocation.
Restore data in controlled stages
Start with a low-risk test
- Select a representative backup set, including ordinary files, a large file, a frequently used application data set, and at least one system-state or application-consistent backup where applicable.
- Restore into an isolated test location or disposable system. Do not overwrite production data during the first test.
- Compare file lists, sizes, timestamps, permissions, and hashes where your recovery process supports them. Open representative files and verify that applications can use them.
- Review the restore report and AhsayCBS logs for missing, corrupted, invalid, or unverifiable items. Record the backup version, destination, operator, and result.
Progress to a representative workload restore
After the single-file test succeeds, restore a workload that exercises your real dependencies: directory structure, permissions, databases, application services, and retention requirements. Confirm that the recovered system can authenticate, start required services, and meet recovery-point and recovery-time objectives before scheduling a production cutover.
Run a restore drill
A restore drill is a repeatable rehearsal rather than a one-off file check. Ahsay reports drill statuses that identify corrupted, invalid, or unverifiable backup data. Capture those statuses, investigate every exception, and retain the report with the recovery record. A successful login to the new server is not a successful restore.
Decide what to do with exceptions
Do not silently skip an item marked corrupted, invalid, or unverifiable. Identify the affected backup version and workload, compare it with another available recovery point, and document whether the exception changes recovery-point or recovery-time objectives. Escalate unresolved exceptions before cutover, especially when the affected data is required for authentication, databases, or business-critical applications.
Monitor after cutover for persistence
Keep enhanced monitoring in place after production traffic moves to the rebuilt host. Bitdefender warns that an attacker can remain quiet for weeks before ransomware or data theft, so an initially normal server does not close the incident.
- Alert on child processes spawned by the Ahsay backup service, especially interpreters, shells, script engines, and tools that are not part of normal jobs.
- Watch web directories for new JSP files, newly created lower-case alphanumeric folders, and changes outside approved deployment windows.
- Monitor
C:UsersPublicand equivalent shared temporary locations for unexpected executables, scripts, archives, or staging files. - Detect new remote-access services, including unexpected OpenSSH installations, and review service creation events.
- Review scheduled tasks, startup entries, administrator membership, RPS receivers, and AhsayCBS users for unauthorized changes.
- Baseline outbound connections and investigate destinations, transfer volumes, and timing that do not match backup operations.
- Forward logs to a separate system so an attacker on the backup host cannot erase the only copy.
Keep the old server quarantined while monitoring the replacement. If a suspicious process, script, account, service, or outbound connection reappears, isolate the replacement and preserve evidence rather than repeatedly deleting the artifact.

Patch in place or rebuild? Use this decision rule
| Situation | Appropriate action | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Only a vendor advisory is suspected; no compromise indicators are found | Restrict exposure and apply the current hotfix promptly, then continue monitoring. | The hotfix removes the vulnerable entry point, but continue checking for evidence. |
| Any Ahsay-listed indicator, confirmed web shell, unauthorized account, or unexplained persistence | Preserve evidence, isolate the host, and perform a full operating-system and AhsayCBS rebuild. | Patching does not remove access already planted. |
| Business pressure demands rapid service restoration | Use a replacement host and staged restore; do not return the original host to production merely because it is patched. | This separates continuity work from the compromised system. |
| Auto Save versions begin after suspicious activity or timestamps are unreliable | Choose an older known-good configuration, or pause for forensic guidance. | A post-compromise configuration can recreate unauthorized users, receivers, or settings. |
Common recovery mistakes and their fixes
“We installed the hotfix, so the server is clean.”
Why it fails: the hotfix addresses the vulnerable code path, not web shells, altered binaries, scheduled tasks, or stolen secrets. Fix: rebuild the operating system and application, then restore only reviewed configuration.
“We restored the newest Auto Save version.”
Why it fails: the newest version may contain attacker-created accounts, receivers, destinations, or schedules. Fix: select a version at least one day before suspicious timestamps whenever possible.
Recommended Free Tools
“We deleted the JSP files before collecting logs.”
Why it fails: deletion destroys timestamps and forensic clues. Fix: preserve disk and logs first when investigation or legal requirements apply; quarantine rather than edit the original evidence.
“A single file opened, so the backup is valid.”
Why it fails: one file does not test permissions, application consistency, corruption, or unverifiable objects. Fix: perform representative workload restores and documented restore drills.
“Only the Ahsay password matters.”
Why it fails: storage, service, domain, certificate, and API credentials may also have been reachable. Fix: inventory every secret available to the host and rotate it from a trusted system.
“We can copy the old installation into the new server.”
Why it fails: executables, scripts, and configuration directories may carry persistence or unauthorized settings. Fix: install AhsayCBS from trusted media, apply the matching hotfix, and recreate integrations deliberately.

Recovery checklist
- Network access to the suspected host is restricted.
- Disk, web, authentication, process, task, and network logs are preserved.
- Suspicious paths, files, users, receivers, services, and timestamps are recorded.
- The replacement operating system is freshly installed and hardened.
- The correct AhsayCBS base build and matching hotfix are verified.
- The selected Auto Save configuration predates the compromise, preferably by at least one day.
- AhsayCBS, storage, service, domain, certificate, and API credentials reachable from the old host are rotated.
- Single-file and representative workload restores succeed in isolation.
- Restore-drill reports contain no unexplained corrupted, invalid, or unverifiable data.
- Post-cutover alerts cover child processes, web directories, public folders, remote-access services, tasks, accounts, and outbound connections.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is applying the Ahsay hotfix enough after a web-shell compromise?
No. The v10.3.4.45 and v9.15.2.70 hotfixes close the reported vulnerabilities, but patching does not remove web shells, altered operating-system components, scheduled tasks, or stolen credentials. Isolate the host, preserve evidence, rebuild Windows or Linux and AhsayCBS, then restore reviewed configuration.
Best Value
Which AhsayCBS versions should be installed?
For v10, use base version v10.3.4.0 followed by hotfix v10.3.4.45. For v9, use v9.15.0.0 followed by v9.15.2.70. Ahsay directs v7 and v8 operators to upgrade to v9.15.0.0 and then apply v9.15.2.70.
How old should the Auto Save configuration be?
Choose the newest server-configuration Auto Save version whose timestamp is at least one day before the earliest suspicious folder or file timestamp. If timestamps conflict or no version meets that interval, use an older known-good version and obtain incident-response guidance.
Do all company passwords need to be changed?
Rotate AhsayCBS administrator, backup-destination, service-account, domain, certificate, API, and other credentials stored on or reachable from the compromised host. Bitdefender says credentials with no path to that host do not require rotation solely because of this incident.
How do I know the restored backups are usable?
Start with isolated file tests, then restore a representative workload and run a documented restore drill. Review file lists, permissions, hashes where available, application behavior, logs, and Ahsay drill statuses for corrupted, invalid, or unverifiable data.
What should be monitored after the new server goes live?
Watch for child processes of the backup service, new JSP files or lower-case alphanumeric web folders, unexpected files in C:\Users\Public, new OpenSSH or other remote-access services, scheduled tasks, unauthorized accounts or receivers, and outbound connections that do not match backup operations.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: AhsayCBS web-shell indicators mean compromise handling, not routine patching. Isolate and preserve the original host, install the current branch-specific hotfix on a freshly rebuilt system, restore only a reviewed Auto Save configuration from at least one day before suspicious timestamps when possible, rotate reachable credentials, validate with staged restores and drills, and continue monitoring because a quiet server is not necessarily a clean one.
