You can loop recorded classes as a YouTube Live broadcast by running OBS Studio on your laptop, adding a lesson video or playlist, and connecting OBS to a YouTube encoder stream. For a genuine 24/7 run, the laptop must stay powered on, awake, connected to the internet, and running OBS. YouTube does not turn a laptop-based stream into an unattended cloud stream.
Before you start: check YouTube Live eligibility
Use a channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s guidance sets the minimum age for live streaming at 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
What you need
- A laptop that can play your lesson files and run OBS continuously.
- Lesson videos stored locally and accessible to the laptop.
- A sustained internet upload connection. YouTube recommends 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate; test your upload speed rather than relying on download speed. Its streaming tips warn that network disruption can interrupt a broadcast.
- Permission to stream the lesson and every included element, including slides, music, images, and third-party clips.
The official guidance does not establish one laptop specification, upload speed, or power-backup requirement for every setup in India. Test your own equipment and connection before relying on it for an unattended broadcast.
Set up the recorded lessons in OBS
Loop one lesson video
- Install and open OBS Studio, then create or select the scene you want to broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Create a new source, name it, and select the local lesson file.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties. OBS will restart the file when it reaches the end. OBS documents this control in its Media Sources guide.
- Check the preview to confirm the picture fits the scene and that the lesson audio is audible.
Play several lessons in sequence
- Install VLC if it is not already installed; OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source to appear.
- In Sources, select + and choose VLC Video. Add the lesson files in the intended order.
- Enable Loop Playlist and check playback in the OBS preview.
OBS documents the playlist control alongside its local media options in the Media Sources guide. A static title card or lesson schedule is optional; if you add text, check that it remains readable on a phone-sized screen.

Create the YouTube encoder stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open Create and select Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that broadcast.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube as the service and enter the stream URL and key using the available fields or custom-server option.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
- Apply the settings, return to the main OBS window, and select Start Streaming. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers the stream URL and key workflow.
OBS’s documented media-loop controls establish how to repeat playback; they do not prescribe universal resolution, bitrate, keyframe interval, layout, or laptop hardware settings. Choose output settings your laptop can encode and your measured upload connection can sustain. Keep the total outbound bitrate within the connection’s capacity, with YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom.
Test the broadcast before leaving it running
- Start with a short test broadcast and check the preview and stream health information in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Open the watch page as a viewer and confirm that both picture and audio work. Check that the video loops or the playlist advances as intended.
- Monitor the stream after it starts and look for dropped connection, missing audio, or a frozen image. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring in its live-streaming tips.
- Only treat the setup as unattended after testing the laptop’s sleep, power, network, and OBS behavior for the period you intend to run it.
What 24/7 operation on a laptop depends on
OBS plays and sends the stream from the laptop, so the broadcast depends on that computer remaining awake and operational, its power remaining available, and its internet connection staying up. Sleep or hibernation, a power interruption, an OBS crash, or an internet outage can stop or disrupt the stream. YouTube’s connection guidance warns that network disruption affects streaming, but it does not establish India-wide outage rates or endorse a particular power or networking product. Check your own setup rather than assuming that a particular broadband plan or backup device guarantees continuity.

Plan the replay separately from the live broadcast
YouTube says live streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as a replay at all. If you need a complete replay, plan sessions shorter than 12 hours and keep a local recording as a separate backup. YouTube also notes that DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable on very long streams. See its guidance on archiving live streams and DVR for live streams.
Copyright and lesson rights
Before broadcasting, confirm you have the necessary rights to stream the recorded teaching and every included work, including music, images, slides, and video clips. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for worldwide use on Google services, including music licensing rights. Owning a recording or using a short excerpt does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast every element.

Common problems and fixes

Availability depends on channel eligibility and settings, and YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve.
