Short answer: You cannot currently run an arbitrary PS5 game locally on a PC with a dependable, consumer-ready compatibility layer. AnyPS5 is an experimental project that adapts PS5 executables for Windows and Linux, but its implementation percentages do not represent the percentage of games that work. If you want to play your PS5 library on a computer now, Sony’s supported method is PS Remote Play: the PS5 runs the game and streams the video and audio to your PC.
What a PS5 compatibility layer actually does
A compatibility layer attempts to let software built for one operating environment function in another by translating or recreating the services the original program expects. In this case, AnyPS5 describes itself as an automatic porting tool for PS5 executables on Linux and Windows. The PS5 uses an x86-64 CPU, which can reduce one barrier to running code on a PC, but the executable still relies on PlayStation system libraries, graphics behavior, device interfaces and other console-specific assumptions.

AnyPS5 therefore has to reproduce enough PS5 system-library behavior for a game to start and translate proprietary graphics work into APIs understood by PC graphics drivers. That is different from a one-click native PC port and different from a universal emulator that recreates every part of a PS5. A title may launch yet fail during a later scene, render incorrectly, crash when a feature is called, or run too slowly to be playable.
Can I play my PS5 games on a computer without a console?
Not through the practical options documented here. Sony’s Remote Play route requires a PS5 (or PS4 for PS4 use), and the experimental PC-porting approach is not a dependable replacement for that console. The game remains installed and running on the console when you use Remote Play; the computer is acting as the display and control endpoint.

AnyPS5’s stated purpose includes interoperability, research, preservation and compatibility. That makes it relevant to developers and technically experienced users who want to follow an emerging project, but it should not be treated as a general PS5-games-on-PC service. Do not use an experimental project as a reason to download unauthorized game files or attempt to bypass encryption.
What AnyPS5’s progress numbers do—and do not—mean
Project status can change quickly, so check the current AnyPS5 compatibility list and release notes before judging a specific title. A report dated October 10, 2026 described the project’s tracker as showing the following figures:
| Reported metric | Value | What it measures | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tracked RDNA shader instructions | 1,166 of 1,166 implemented | The decoder recognizes the shader instructions tracked by the project. | It does not establish complete GPU-feature support, correct translation in every case, or reliable game rendering. |
| Declared system-library functions | 2,578 of 3,044, or 84.69% | The proportion of functions declared in the codebase that were reported implemented. | It is not an 84.69% game-compatibility rate and does not indicate that a title using those functions will work. |
| Verified playable software | One title on the list at the time of the report | A project-listed game that had been verified as playable then; the report characterized it as a simple 2D platformer. | It does not mean other games are supported, and the list may change after a new build. |
Technically demanding games were still reported to have rendering, stability and performance problems. Treat every title entry as time-sensitive: a compatibility label can improve, regress or change as the project, game patches and graphics translation code evolve. No title-specific result should be inferred from the aggregate numbers above.
Compare the ways to play PlayStation games on a PC
| Method | PS5 required? | Where the game runs | Compatibility | Network dependence | Controller or peripheral considerations | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PS Remote Play | Yes | On the PS5; the PC receives a stream. | Games installed on the console are generally the relevant library, subject to Sony’s exclusions. | Yes. Sony lists 5 Mbps as a minimum and recommends at least 15 Mbps for a better experience. | DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense and DualSense Edge are listed; supported touch controls may also be available. Games requiring VR or additional peripherals are excluded. | Official Sony-supported route. |
| PlayStation Plus on PC | Depends on the service and region; it is a separate subscription route. | Use Sony’s PC application and the catalog offered under current terms; it is not local execution of PS5 files. | Limited to the service’s current catalog and availability. | Use requires an internet connection appropriate to the service. | Some third-party PC-compatible XInput controllers may work, but Sony does not guarantee full compatibility. | Official service, with catalog and availability varying by region and current terms. |
| AnyPS5 | No console is described as required for the software itself, but practical game support is very limited. | Attempts to adapt PS5 executables for Windows and Linux. | Experimental; consult the live compatibility list for each title. | Not inherently a streaming method, although a particular game or setup may have its own requirements. | Hardware and graphics-driver behavior can affect results; no universal controller guarantee is established. | Experimental project, not a general consumer solution. |
| shadPS4 | No PS5 console for the emulator itself. | Targets PlayStation 4 software. | It is a PS4 emulator, not a PS5 compatibility layer. | Not a Remote Play service. | Depends on the emulator and PC setup. | Adjacent project; do not use its status to judge PS5 compatibility. |
| RPCSX | No console for the emulator itself. | Describes itself as an experimental PS4/PS5 emulator. | Its FAQ describes test samples and a handful of titles playable in-game, with a compatibility table in progress. | Not a substitute for Sony’s Remote Play service. | Compatibility depends on the individual build and title. | Experimental and separate from AnyPS5. |
How to use PS Remote Play on a PC
Remote Play is the only route in this guide that Sony documents specifically for streaming games from a PS5 to a computer. It does not convert the PS5 game into a Windows or Linux executable.
Check the requirements first
- A PS5 console connected to broadband.
- A compatible PC with Sony’s PS Remote Play application.
- A PlayStation account.
- A game that can be used with Remote Play.
- A compatible controller, or supported touch controls where available.
- A network connection of at least 5 Mbps; Sony recommends a high-speed connection of at least 15 Mbps for a better experience.
Sony lists DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers for the service. A DualSense can be a useful optional controller for PC play, but buying one does not remove the requirement for the PS5 console.
Set up the console
- Connect the PS5 to your broadband network and install the game you want to play.
- Enable Remote Play in the PS5’s Remote Play settings while you have access to the console.
- Leave the console configured to support Remote Play when you are away from it. The console must be available for the session; the PC does not take over the game’s execution.
Set up the PC session
- Install Sony’s PS Remote Play application on the compatible PC.
- Sign in with the PlayStation account associated with the console.
- Connect a listed controller, or use supported touch controls if the application and device provide them.
- Select the PS5 in the application and follow its connection prompts.
- Choose the installed game on the console and play while the application displays the streamed output.
Because the game is rendered on the PS5, upgrading the PC does not turn a demanding PS5 title into a local PC game. The quality of the session instead depends on the console, the PC, the controller connection and the network path between them.
Know the Remote Play exclusions
- Games that require PlayStation VR or other additional peripherals are excluded from Remote Play.
- Games that must be streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium are not compatible with Remote Play.
- A network below Sony’s 5 Mbps minimum may prevent a usable connection; 15 Mbps is Sony’s recommendation for a better experience, not a guarantee of latency or image quality.
What PlayStation Plus on PC is—and is not
Sony separately documents access to PlayStation Plus through a PC application. This option depends on the subscription catalog, service terms and regional availability at the time you use it. It should not be described as running your PS5 game files locally, and it is not an emulator or a compatibility layer.

Controller support is not universal: Sony notes that some third-party PC-compatible XInput controllers may work, while also stating that full compatibility is not guaranteed. Check the current application and service requirements for your region before subscribing or planning a particular game session.
If you want to experiment with AnyPS5
Approach AnyPS5 as a development project rather than an installation that unlocks a library. The most responsible workflow is:
- Read the project README and current release notes to understand the build’s stated purpose and limitations.
- Check the live compatibility list for the exact game version you own. Do not infer support from the shader or system-library percentages.
- Use only software and game data you are legally entitled to use. This article does not provide instructions for bypassing encryption, defeating console security or obtaining unauthorized copies.
- Confirm that your PC runs one of the project’s supported operating systems—Windows or Linux are the platforms the project describes—and review any build-specific graphics or hardware notes.
- Start with a title already marked as verified playable, if one remains listed, and expect regressions or incomplete features after updates.
- Record the project version, game version and symptoms when reporting a problem. A crash, missing graphics effect and unplayable frame rate are different compatibility failures.
Do not assume that a game launching means it is ready to finish. A compatibility layer can pass early initialization and still fail when a later shader, system call, save operation or streaming asset is used. If a title is not on the current list, the honest expectation is experimentation rather than a predictable play session.
Common misunderstandings and how to avoid them
“All shaders are implemented, so all games should work.”
The 1,166-of-1,166 figure concerns tracked shader-instruction recognition. It says nothing about untracked features, the correctness of every translation, system calls, memory behavior, timing, asset streaming or a game’s own bugs. It cannot be converted into a percentage of working games.

The 84.69% value is calculated from 2,578 implemented functions out of 3,044 declared in the project’s codebase. Games use different subsets of those functions and may depend on interactions that are not captured by a simple count. A single missing function on a critical path can prevent a title from starting.
“Remote Play is a native PC port.”
Remote Play sends the console’s output to the PC and returns your controls to the console. It preserves the requirement for a PS5 and the network dependency; it does not install a Windows or Linux version of the game.
“A PS4 emulator is close enough to a PS5 solution.”
shadPS4 targets PlayStation 4 software. Its progress cannot establish that PS5 games will run. RPCSX discusses experimental PS4/PS5 emulation, but its own FAQ describes a limited state rather than broad compatibility. Keep those projects separate when evaluating claims.

Troubleshoot the route that matches your goal
You want to play tonight and own a PS5
Use Remote Play. Verify the console is online, the app is installed, your account is available, the controller is connected and your network meets Sony’s 5 Mbps minimum. If the session is poor, compare your connection with Sony’s 15 Mbps recommendation before changing PC hardware.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYou want local execution without a console
There is no dependable general solution in the evidence available for this guide. AnyPS5 remains experimental, and neither its instruction metric nor its library-function metric is a promise that a chosen game will run. A subscription application is not a way to execute your PS5 files locally either.
A title is listed but fails on your build
Check the project’s release notes and compatibility entry for the exact game and software versions, then report the reproducible failure through the project’s supported channels. Keep the console-based Remote Play option available if your objective is simply to play rather than debug.
Choose the right route before spending money
If your goal is immediate play, start with the service that matches what you already own. A PS5 owner needs the console online, the Remote Play application, a PlayStation account and a supported controller; purchasing a DualSense can improve the control setup, but it is an accessory rather than a replacement for the console. Your network must meet Sony’s 5 Mbps minimum, with 15 Mbps recommended for a better experience.
If you do not own a PS5, do not buy a controller or upgrade a PC on the assumption that either purchase unlocks PS5 software. AnyPS5’s Windows and Linux support describes where its experimental code is intended to run, not a guaranteed catalog. PlayStation Plus on PC is a separate subscription and catalog service, not a method for loading your owned PS5 files. Check the current regional catalog and terms instead of treating it as equivalent to Remote Play or local execution.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a PS5 emulator or compatibility layer for PC?
AnyPS5 is an experimental compatibility and automatic-porting project for Windows and Linux. It is not a general consumer-ready emulator, and its reported implementation metrics do not show how many games work. RPCSX also describes experimental PS4/PS5 emulation, while shadPS4 targets PS4 software.
Can I play my PS5 games on a computer without owning a PS5?
Not through Sony’s supported Remote Play route, because a PS5 is required and continues running the game. AnyPS5 is not yet a dependable general substitute, and PlayStation Plus on PC does not execute your PS5 files locally.
Does 1,166 of 1,166 shader instructions mean PS5 games are compatible?
No. That figure refers to recognition of the tracked RDNA shader instructions. It does not prove complete GPU support, correct translation, stable performance or successful rendering in every game.
What internet speed does PS Remote Play need?
Sony lists at least 5 Mbps and recommends a high-speed connection of at least 15 Mbps for a better experience. Those figures do not guarantee low latency or perfect image quality, and the console remains part of the network path.
Which controllers work with PS Remote Play on PC?
Sony lists DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, with supported touch controls available in some situations. A DualSense is optional; buying one does not remove the PS5 requirement.
Can I use PlayStation Plus on PC to run my PS5 game files?
No. PlayStation Plus on PC is a separate application and subscription catalog whose availability varies by region and current terms. It is not local execution of PS5 files or an emulator. Sony also says some third-party XInput controllers may work without guaranteeing full compatibility.
Why can a game launch in AnyPS5 and still be unplayable?
Launching may only show that early initialization works. A later shader, system-library call, save operation, asset-streaming step or demanding rendering path can still fail, crash or perform too slowly. Check the title-specific compatibility entry and release notes for the exact versions.
Is AnyPS5 a way to download or decrypt PS5 games?
No. Use only software and game data you are legally entitled to use. The project’s stated goals are interoperability, research, preservation and compatibility; this guide does not provide instructions for bypassing encryption or obtaining unauthorized files.
The Bottom Line
In 2026, AnyPS5 is an interesting experimental compatibility project, not a universal way to run PS5 games locally on Windows or Linux. The 1,166/1,166 shader figure and 84.69% library-function figure measure implementation work, not game compatibility; a report dated October 10, 2026 listed only one verified playable title and continuing problems in demanding games. If you want to play now, use Sony PS Remote Play with the required PS5, a compatible controller and at least 5 Mbps of network speed—15 Mbps is recommended for a better experience. Treat PlayStation Plus on PC, RPCSX and shadPS4 as separate options with different purposes and limits.
