Run Nightwatch tests without opening a visible browser window by adding --headless to the local Nightwatch command: npx nightwatch --headless. Nightwatch’s CLI documents this mode for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. You can also name a test file or folder, select a configured environment, or point to a config file.
Run Nightwatch headlessly
From your project directory, use the project-local Nightwatch runner:
npx nightwatch --headless
To run a particular test folder, pass its path before the flag:
npx nightwatch tests --headless
The CLI accepts a source path or file. Nightwatch describes --headless as launching Chrome, Edge, or Firefox in headless mode. The current CLI documentation displayed Nightwatch 3.16.0 when consulted; check the current CLI and release notes for changes to flags and driver compatibility before relying on version-specific behavior. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up a project and its browser
Initialize a new project
Nightwatch’s getting-started flow uses this command to initialize a project and generate nightwatch.conf.js according to your choices:
npm init nightwatch
The setup flow lets you choose browsers, a test source folder, a base URL, and whether execution is local, remote, or both. For an existing project, configure Nightwatch directly in its configuration file rather than rerunning initialization blindly. Nightwatch Getting Started
Configure local execution
For a local headless run, configure the browser and WebDriver settings for the project, then invoke Nightwatch with --headless. Nightwatch can manage a supported local driver process; a Selenium Server is not inherently required for ordinary local execution. Selenium is relevant when connecting to a Selenium Grid or cloud testing service. Nightwatch Settings

Select an environment or configuration
Use the CLI’s environment and config options when local and CI settings differ. The environment name must correspond to an environment configured in your Nightwatch setup.
npx nightwatch tests --headless --env chrome_local
npx nightwatch tests --headless --config nightwatch.conf.js
--envselects a named test environment.--configselects a configuration file.--verboseenables extended HTTP command logging, useful when diagnosing WebDriver interactions.--parallelenables worker-based parallel execution; use it only when your project and environment are configured for parallel runs.
These flags are independent choices: headless mode does not require verbose logging, parallel execution, or a particular environment. Consult the CLI reference for the current syntax and available options.
Use Chrome in Docker
Container execution can need browser arguments beyond simply enabling headless mode. Nightwatch’s ChromeDriver documentation specifies adding --no-sandbox to Chrome arguments for its Docker-container scenario. Configure that argument through the Chrome options in the project’s browser configuration when that scenario applies. It is not a universal requirement for every headless Chrome run. Choose local or remote test infrastructure
| Approach | What it suits | What you configure |
|---|---|---|
| Local WebDriver | Running tests against a browser available in the local development or CI environment. | Nightwatch browser and driver settings; Nightwatch can manage a supported local driver process. |
| Selenium Grid or cloud testing | Running through remote infrastructure when a Grid or provider is part of your test setup. | Selenium connection details and the relevant remote/provider configuration. |
Nightwatch names cloud testing services including BrowserStack and Sauce Labs in its settings documentation. Its documentation establishes that these services are possible remote targets, not that any one provider is best. A headless local run is not a substitute for a separate browser or device matrix if your project needs broader environment coverage. Nightwatch Settings

The browser still opens visibly
Confirm that --headless is present in the Nightwatch invocation and that the command is reaching the expected local project runner. Check the CLI documentation for your installed Nightwatch version if the flag is not recognized.

Chrome exits in a container
For the Docker-container scenario documented by Nightwatch, add Chrome’s --no-sandbox argument through Chrome options. Do not add it indiscriminately to unrelated environments.
The environment name or config path fails
Verify that the name passed to --env exists in your configuration and that the path passed to --config is correct relative to the command’s working directory.
Logs do not show enough detail
Rerun with --verbose to enable extended HTTP command logging. Once the issue is understood, remove the extra logging if it is no longer useful.

If you need screenshots of pages rather than end-to-end interaction tests, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For example, with cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Before capture, it accepts cookie/consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers indicate the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
