Yes—you can use many Windows desktop applications and PC games on an iPhone by streaming a remote Windows computer to it. A cloud PC service runs Windows in a data center, sends the desktop’s video and audio to an iPhone app, and sends your taps, controller inputs, keyboard strokes, and mouse movements back to that computer. Your iPhone is the display and control surface; it is not installing or executing the Windows program locally.
The practical choices fall into two categories: a consumer cloud PC such as Shadow PC, where you receive a full Windows environment and install your own software, and Microsoft’s Windows App, which connects to a Windows computer or virtual desktop already assigned by an employer or other organization. The right route depends on whether you need your own installable Windows PC or access to a managed machine.

What a cloud PC actually does on an iPhone
Cloud PC streaming is remote access, not a Windows emulator running inside iOS. The provider operates a Windows computer on remote hardware. When you start a session, that computer performs the Windows processing, renders the application or game, and encodes the result as an audio/video stream. The iPhone app displays the stream and returns your input over the internet.
That division explains both the appeal and the limits:

- Nothing about the process converts iOS into Windows or places the desktop application on the iPhone’s local storage as a native app.
- A continuous internet connection is required while you use the remote session. Network quality and the distance to the host can affect responsiveness, but the available documentation does not establish one universal minimum speed or latency number for every setup.
- The remote Windows environment, rather than the iPhone, determines whether a program can be installed and whether it has sufficient resources.
Shadow describes its service in its official product-page wording as “Shadow PC is a complete Windows gaming PC fully hosted in the cloud.” That is a description of the service model, not an independent performance test or a guarantee that every game will run.

When a full cloud PC is the better fit
A consumer service is the closer match if your goal is “give me a Windows computer I can use from my phone.” You select a plan, sign in to its iOS app, start the hosted PC, and install the Windows applications or games you want. This model can cover both ordinary desktop software and games, subject to the service’s operating rules and the publisher’s restrictions.
When Windows App is the better fit
Windows App is a client for existing managed access. Microsoft documents iOS and iPadOS connections to Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Dev Box, Remote Desktop Services and remote PCs. An administrator or organization must provide the relevant entitlement and connection details. Microsoft’s documented Azure Virtual Desktop sign-in flow does not use a personal Microsoft account, so installing the app alone does not create a personal gaming cloud PC.

How to run a Windows app or game from an iPhone
The exact button names and plan choices can change, but the workflow is consistent. Before paying, verify the provider’s current regional availability, supported devices and service requirements; the available documentation does not establish a complete country list or a universal list of iPhone models.
- Define the workload. Write down the applications and games you actually intend to use. A controller-friendly game has different input needs from a program that expects a precise pointer and a large keyboard.
- Pick the access model. Choose a consumer full cloud PC if you need to install your own Windows software. Choose Windows App only when you already have an assigned Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Dev Box, Remote Desktop Services or remote-PC resource.
- Check eligibility before subscribing. Confirm current regional service availability, the provider’s supported iPhone and iOS requirements, the plan’s advertised hardware, and any restrictions affecting your target game. Shadow’s downloads page has listed an iOS 11-or-later requirement for its app; that page requirement is not a universal promise that every current service feature works on every device.
- Install the iOS client. Download the provider’s iPhone app from the App Store. For a managed Microsoft connection, install Windows App and make sure your organization has supplied the correct account and workspace or PC assignment.
- Sign in and start the remote computer. Authenticate in the app, select the available cloud PC or assigned resource, and wait for the Windows desktop to appear. The first start can take longer than subsequent connections while the remote environment initializes.
- Install or open the software inside Windows. Use the remote desktop’s Windows interface to install the application or game, sign in to that software where required, and configure its graphics and input options. The installation occurs on the cloud computer, not on the iPhone.
- Set up controls before playing. Test touch controls, then connect a compatible Bluetooth controller if the title is designed for one. If the software needs cursor precision or extensive keyboard input, test a mouse and keyboard workflow before committing to a long session or purchasing accessories.
- Test on the network and location you will use. Launch the application, move through menus, and try a short gameplay segment. If controls feel delayed or the image quality fluctuates, investigate the connection and host region rather than assuming the Windows application itself is broken.
Game compatibility is not automatic
A cloud PC can make a Windows game available to an iPhone, but it cannot override the game’s licensing, anti-cheat, virtualization or publisher rules. Shadow’s product information specifically warns that technical restrictions imposed by publishers may make some games incompatible. Treat compatibility as a title-by-title question.
Check these questions for every game
- Can the game be installed through the store or launcher available in the remote Windows environment?
- Does its publisher permit play from a hosted or virtualized machine?
- Does its anti-cheat or security system block cloud-hosted Windows sessions?
- Does the game require a launcher, peripheral or authentication step that the remote environment cannot provide?
- Is the game playable with a controller, or does it depend on a mouse and many keyboard shortcuts?
Do not infer compatibility from another game in the same series. A title may install successfully yet fail at launch, refuse online play, or lose a required input device after an update. Check the current provider and publisher support information for the particular game before buying a plan.

Controls: touch, controller, mouse and keyboard
The iPhone screen can display a Windows desktop, but it is not automatically a comfortable replacement for a desk. Shadow documents support for a gaming keyboard, mouse, controller—including Xbox and PlayStation controllers—and USB peripherals. Its iOS App Store listing identifies the app as controller-supported and lists iPhone, iPad and Apple TV availability.

A Bluetooth game controller for iPhone is the most straightforward optional accessory for a game designed around gamepad input. Pair it with the iPhone according to Apple’s normal Bluetooth procedure, then confirm that the cloud app and the game recognize it. A controller can improve movement, camera control and button access, but it cannot solve a game that fundamentally requires a pointer or a large keyboard.
Touchscreen
Touch input is convenient for menus and simple controls, but a remote Windows desktop may expose tiny buttons, hover states and shortcuts designed for a mouse. Do not assume that every PC game has usable touch overlays. Test the specific title and app before relying on the phone screen alone.

Mouse and keyboard
Desktop strategy, simulation, creative and productivity applications often expect a cursor and many keys. The cloud service may accept those peripherals, yet the complete experience depends on the iPhone, the accessory connection, the app’s input handling and the game’s own controls. The reviewed App Store listing includes user reports of friction in some mouse-and-keyboard titles; those reports are anecdotal and include older experiences, so they indicate a possible usability issue rather than a current, controlled performance result.

Every streamed session needs an active internet connection. The remote computer sends a continuous stream while your inputs travel in the opposite direction. A connection that is technically “online” can still feel poor if it fluctuates, routes through a distant host or becomes congested.

A stable home Wi-Fi connection and a strong cellular connection can behave differently, and performance can change between locations.

Symptoms of a network or streaming problem
- Video freezes or drops in quality: the stream may be losing capacity or the connection may be fluctuating.
- Inputs arrive late: network round-trip time, congestion or host distance may be contributing; lowering in-game visual settings can help the remote computer render more easily, but it cannot remove network delay.
- Audio cuts out while video continues: reconnect the session and test the network before reinstalling the Windows application.
- The session disconnects: sign back in, then check the provider’s status and current connection requirements.
Plans, hardware and regional availability
Cloud PC providers offer changing plan choices and hardware configurations. Shadow’s product page advertises plan choices and says users can switch plans, but the specific specifications and prices are not fixed by the information available here. Compare the provider’s current regional page at the time you subscribe rather than relying on an old screenshot or a price quoted in another article.

Windows App setup for an assigned work or school desktop
If an organization has given you a Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Dev Box, Remote Desktop Services or remote-PC connection, Windows App provides the iPhone/iPad client documented by Microsoft.
- Ask the administrator for the service name, sign-in method, workspace or PC assignment and any required network access.
- Install Windows App from the iOS App Store.
- Sign in with the account associated with the assigned service; do not substitute a personal Microsoft account for an organization-provided Azure Virtual Desktop identity.
- Select the published desktop, application or remote PC shown in the app.
- Use the Windows session for the software your organization has made available.
Microsoft also documents browser-based access limitations: Windows App does not support mobile web browsers for its browser-based access. On an iPhone, use the iOS app and the connection method your administrator supports rather than assuming Safari can provide the same experience.
Troubleshooting checklist
The app cannot connect
- Confirm that the cloud PC or assigned desktop is provisioned and not stopped or expired.
- Recheck the account, workspace and authentication method.
- Test another network, then check the provider or organization’s service-status guidance.
- Verify that the iPhone meets the app’s current iOS and device requirements.
The game will not install or launch
- Confirm that the remote Windows environment meets the game’s operating-system and hardware requirements.
- Check the publisher’s rules for cloud, virtualized or remote machines.
- Run the launcher and game updates inside the cloud PC.
- Check whether an anti-cheat, DRM or peripheral requirement is blocking the session.
The game runs but controls are unusable
- Try the game’s controller layout before buying a keyboard or mouse.
- Pair a compatible Bluetooth controller and verify that the cloud app passes it through.
- For mouse-and-keyboard titles, test the exact iPhone and accessory combination; there is no single configuration established as universal for every game.
- Use a larger display or a different client device if small touch targets remain the limiting factor, while keeping the cloud PC itself unchanged.
The picture is blurry or delayed
- Move closer to the Wi-Fi access point or test a stronger connection.
- Stop other high-bandwidth activity on the same network.
- Try the session at another time or location to identify congestion.
- Check the host region and provider guidance; do not assume that changing Windows graphics settings alone can fix network latency.
What this approach can and cannot replace
A cloud PC is useful when you need Windows software from a phone and accept streamed access. It is not a way to install desktop programs as offline iPhone apps, and it does not guarantee that every PC game, launcher or peripheral will work. A full consumer cloud PC offers the broadest control over software installation. Windows App is narrower but appropriate when an organization has already provisioned the Windows environment.
For a reliable decision, evaluate the actual application list, game compatibility, input method, connection where you play, current regional plan and account requirements together. If any one of those is unknown—especially publisher compatibility or managed-account access—resolve it before paying.
