You can make an online radio station available as a YouTube Live broadcast by sending its finished audio feed through a cloud encoder or relay to a YouTube live event. YouTube provides the broadcast destination and viewer experience; the cloud service sends the feed; your station remains responsible for programming, continuity and music rights. Verify the channel, configure both ends, and test playback and recovery before launching.

What you need—and what each part does

  • Your station’s audio source: an automation system, playlist or live studio feed. The cloud provider must accept the source you actually use.
  • A cloud encoder or relay: it takes that source and sends a compatible live output to YouTube. Do not assume that a service supports unattended operation or 24/7 scheduling; confirm duration and recovery behavior with the provider.
  • A YouTube channel and live event: YouTube is where viewers watch and chat. It is not a radio automation system that schedules or supplies your station’s programming.
  • Rights for the material you broadcast: your station must have the necessary permissions for the intended YouTube use, including music and interview content.

A microphone or audio interface is useful for locally produced interviews or DJ segments, but it is not a universal requirement if your station already produces a finished feed and the cloud service handles delivery.

How to stream your radio station live on YouTube

1. Enable live streaming on the channel

Verify the YouTube channel and check that it has no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube lists encoder streaming as one way to broadcast. Complete eligibility checks early so a channel restriction does not derail launch day. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and getting-started guidance.

2. Choose a cloud service that fits the station’s feed

Before subscribing or building the workflow, ask the provider:

#1 Best Overall
Radio Paradise
  • DJ-mixed
  • Slideshow
  • Lyrics
  • What input does it accept—your automation output, playlist, or live studio feed—and can it send a YouTube-compatible encoder output?
  • Can it run unattended for the duration you need? What happens when a session ends or the connection drops?
  • Does it reconnect or restart automatically, or does an operator have to intervene? Are there failover options, monitoring and alerts?
  • Can you schedule programming, set audio quality, provide a visual slate, and change or stop a track quickly?
  • What usage limits, terms and total costs apply to your planned schedule?

These are provider-specific questions, not features to assume from the words “cloud streaming.” For example, Google Cloud’s Live Stream API documentation says a live stream session lasts 24 hours after a channel starts, after which the channel may need to be restarted. That limit applies to that API, not to every cloud streaming service. Ask any prospective provider how its own session limits, restart automation and alerting work. See Google Cloud Live Stream API quotas and limits.

3. Create the YouTube live event and connect the provider

Create or schedule the live event in YouTube Studio, then copy the event’s stream settings into the cloud provider as its destination. Follow the labels and instructions in the current YouTube and provider interfaces; exact control names can vary. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains the supported workflow at Get started with live streaming.

Confirm that the provider is sending the intended station feed to the correct event before making the broadcast public. Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that event. If you believe it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the provider’s destination settings.

4. Test the whole path before launch

Use a private or unlisted test event where appropriate. Start the source and cloud output, then check the preview and actual playback. YouTube recommends testing the encoder setup, previewing the stream, checking that viewers can access it, testing failover where applicable and monitoring quality. Work through this checklist:

Behringer XENYX 802S Premium Analog 8-Input Mixer with USB Streaming Interface
  • Analog mixing and equalization for pure sound

  • Audio is present, intelligible and at the intended level; there is no unintended silence, clipping or wrong source.
  • The live preview and playback show the expected event and visual treatment.
  • The event is visible and accessible from the channel and watch pages, and playback works on a phone.
  • The cloud service reconnects or recovers as expected after a planned test interruption.
  • Someone on the team can monitor the broadcast and knows how to pause or replace a problematic track.

For platform guidance, see YouTube live streaming tips.

5. Set the on-air details and launch plan

Decide how you will identify the station, describe the program and handle audience chat. Confirm whether the broadcast should be recorded and whether the visual presentation is a static station image, a slate or other material you have permission to use. Assign a person to monitor the first broadcast, respond to warnings and coordinate a restart if needed. These are operational choices for your station; YouTube’s live setup does not supply your radio schedule or staffing plan.

Clear music and other rights before broadcasting

Rights are a launch gate, not a problem to troubleshoot after going live. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including music and other broadcasts. If it detects a match, it may replace the video with a placeholder and warn the operator to stop using the content; leaving it in place can interrupt or terminate the stream. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A license alone does not guarantee uninterrupted transmission. YouTube says a rights holder may need to add a licensed channel to its Content ID allowlist; coordinate with the rights owner, label or distributor as appropriate and confirm the channel is allowlisted before using the material. YouTube for Artists also recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music: Going live for music channels.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded material in the cloud, so no computer, OBS setup or home internet connection has to stay on. It is for uploaded videos, not a live microphone or studio feed, so it fits a station that can prepare its programming as recordings or playlists.

Each slot includes one always-on stream, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, support from the StreamNeo team and 10 GB of storage per slot, pooled across active slots. Uploads stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encoding or quality tiers; every plan has the same features and differs only in duration. Pricing options are Daily $0.99 per day · Weekly $2.99 per week · Monthly $9.99 per month · 6 months $49.99 for 6 months · Yearly $89.99 a year. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account; UPI and cards are available in India, and card checkout is available worldwide. Cancel any time; contact support for five or more slots.

For stations whose format can be prepared as uploaded recordings or playlists, this avoids keeping equipment and a home connection running, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.

Troubleshooting before and during the broadcast

  • The channel cannot start an encoder stream: check channel verification and whether live-stream restrictions are active, including restrictions in the prior 90 days. Resolve eligibility issues before scheduling the broadcast.
  • YouTube shows no incoming feed: confirm the provider is running, the destination is the correct live event, and the stream settings were copied correctly. Check the provider’s output status and its instructions for restarting or reconnecting.
  • The preview works but viewers cannot watch: confirm the event’s audience and visibility settings, then test access from the channel page, watch page and a mobile device. YouTube recommends checking viewer access as part of the test.
  • Audio is missing or wrong: verify the source selected in the provider, that the station’s source is actually playing, and that the provider receives the intended feed. Recheck with a test before returning to public broadcast.
  • The stream stops after running for a long time: check the cloud service’s documented session duration and restart policy. For Google Cloud Live Stream API specifically, plan for its documented 24-hour session duration and channel restart behavior; do not assume another provider shares that limit.
  • A copyright warning appears or the stream is interrupted: stop or replace the flagged material, then contact the rights holder about permissions and Content ID allowlisting. Do not try to disguise tracks or evade a restriction.
  • The service does not recover after an interruption: check its reconnect and failover settings, alerting, and whether a manual restart is required. Keep a named operator and restart procedure for the first broadcasts.
