How to Run an Evergreen Webinar as a 24/7 YouTube Live Stream

To run a recorded webinar as a continuous YouTube Live stream, schedule or create a YouTube event, then connect an encoder or cloud playback service that sends the recording to YouTube and repeats it. Scheduling creates the event page; it does not play the video by itself. For a one-off setup, a local encoder such as OBS can work while your computer and internet connection stay online. For unattended playback, use a cloud service built for continuous prerecorded streams.

What “evergreen webinar” means on YouTube Live

An evergreen webinar is a recording made available repeatedly rather than a live presentation happening in real time. On YouTube, the event page and the video feed are separate: YouTube Studio lets you schedule a Live stream for promotion and reminders, but an encoder or streaming service must send the recording to that event. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a format it can stream (YouTube encoder guidance).

A continuous loop is not the same as a finite prerecorded broadcast. Before choosing a method, confirm it supports repeated playback for as long as you need, and decide how you will monitor interruptions and preserve a copy of the webinar.

Check channel access and webinar rights first

Enable live streaming in advance

YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, and YouTube says streamers must be at least 16 (YouTube live-streaming requirements; YouTube live-streaming guidance). Check access before announcing the webinar; an event scheduled in Studio does not bypass channel eligibility or activation.

Clear every element in the recording

Make sure you have the necessary rights to stream the webinar, not just to show it privately or distribute its recording. Review embedded music, slides, guest footage, stock media and sponsor material. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the rights needed to use the content live, including applicable music licensing rights (YouTube Terms of Service). A recording that was cleared for one use is not automatically cleared for a continuous public livestream.

Choose a playback method for a continuous stream

Method Fits best when Trade-off
StreamNeo You want a recorded video or playlist to run continuously from the cloud to YouTube. It is a paid service after the one free day; check that your uploaded recording and playlist fit the available storage.
Local encoder such as OBS You want direct control and can keep a streaming computer, software and internet connection available. You are responsible for local uptime, monitoring and feed recovery. YouTube lists OBS as open-source streaming software but does not promise unattended restart behavior (YouTube encoder guidance).
Gyre You need cloud playback for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streaming. YouTube lists Gyre for this use case, but confirm current plan limits, file handling, monitoring and recovery with the service (YouTube verified encoder list).
Restream video-file or playlist event You want to schedule video or playlist sources, including in a multistream workflow. The cited documentation identifies these source types but does not establish uninterrupted 24/7 looping on every plan; verify the selected plan’s behavior (Restream prerecorded video documentation).
StreamYard prerecorded broadcast You want a finite prerecorded webinar to start automatically at a scheduled time. Documented maximum video lengths are 2 hours on Core, 4 hours on Advanced and 8 hours on Teams or Business, so these broadcasts are not an unlimited 24/7 loop (StreamYard prerecorded-stream guidance).

Compare options by continuous loop support, maximum video length, local versus cloud uptime, recovery and monitoring, archive plan, event timing, rights and monetization fit, and current plan cost. Confirm changing plan limits directly with the vendor before committing to a paid option.

Set up the YouTube Live event and connect an encoder

  1. Open YouTube Studio and Live Control Room. Create a stream or open the Manage tab to schedule a new stream. Add the title, description, visibility and start time that suit your announcement plan. Scheduling prepares the event and watch page; you still need to send video to it.
  2. Choose the encoder or cloud service. For a local setup, install and configure an encoder such as OBS. For cloud playback, select a service that explicitly supports the continuous prerecorded loop you need.
  3. Copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. In the event’s stream settings, find the connection details and enter them in the encoder or service. The server URL identifies YouTube’s ingest endpoint; the stream key routes the incoming feed to the correct stream. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if it is exposed.
  4. Load the webinar file and set repeat behavior. Select the correct recording and enable looping or playlist repetition in the playback system. A video that plays once and stops is not an evergreen 24/7 feed. Confirm that playback restarts cleanly and that the service does not add an unintended gap or switch to a blank screen.
  5. Start the encoder and check Live Control Room. Start sending the feed, then verify that YouTube receives it and that both video and audio appear as expected before the event is public. Follow the chosen encoder’s supported output settings; YouTube’s encoder guidance explains the connection process but does not prescribe a single bitrate or resolution for every source and connection.
  6. Rehearse privately or unlisted. Confirm the event, picture, audio, loop restart, stream status and what happens after a connection interruption. This practical rehearsal catches setup-specific issues; no generic setup guarantees recovery behavior across encoders.
  7. Make the event public at the intended time. If the stream is scheduled, coordinate the encoder start with the event. Keep an eye on Live Control Room during launch so you can address a missing feed before viewers arrive.

What to know about long-running streams and archives

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends making a local archive backup (YouTube archive guidance). Do not rely on the continuous event as the only copy of the webinar. Keep the original recording, or make a separate local recording if preserving the full program matters.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

YouTube also states that a channel can have up to 10 active streams and each stream key can be used for up to 3 active streams (YouTube live-stream guidance). Those limits are unlikely to affect one webinar feed, but they can matter when configuring multiple simultaneous outputs.

Monetization, repetition and viewer expectations

Monetization is conditional, not a guaranteed result of keeping a stream live. YouTube applies its channel monetization policies to live streams and says repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Its July 15, 2025 policy update renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify how the policy applies to repetitive or mass-produced material (YouTube channel monetization policies). A 24/7 loop of one recording may not meet the originality and authenticity expectations for monetization, so assess the content and channel against current policy rather than assuming a loop will earn revenue.

Even when a channel has monetization enabled for a live stream, YouTube says ads are not guaranteed to serve (YouTube live-stream monetization guidance). Make the title and description clear that viewers are watching a recorded webinar, and avoid implying that a presenter is currently live.

Troubleshoot common setup problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
You cannot start a live stream. Live access is not enabled, the channel is not verified, or a restriction applies. Check channel eligibility and activation status in YouTube Studio. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours.
The event page exists but shows no video. The encoder has not started, or it is using the wrong event’s server URL or stream key. Compare the connection details in the selected YouTube event with those entered in the encoder; start the feed and check Live Control Room.
The webinar plays once and stops. Repeat or playlist looping is not enabled, or the selected service only schedules a finite broadcast. Check playback repeat settings and confirm the service and plan support continuous repetition. StreamYard’s published prerecorded-stream durations, for example, are capped by plan.
The stream stops when you leave. A local computer, encoder or connection is no longer sending the feed. For a local setup, check that the computer is awake, the encoder remains active and the connection is stable. If you need unattended playback, use a cloud service configured for continuous streaming.
The feed drops and does not resume. The encoder or service may not automatically reconnect, or the local connection may still be down. Check the service’s recovery behavior and connection status. Test interruption recovery during rehearsal rather than assuming the encoder will restart unattended.
The archive is missing or incomplete. The stream exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold or the capture otherwise failed. Keep the source recording and use a separate local archive when a complete copy is important.
