Check channel eligibility before launch
YouTube’s current live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable the feature well before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
Create the YouTube Live event and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, select Go Live. Create a stream or schedule one from the Manage tab. You can reuse stream settings. A scheduled event can appear as upcoming, be shared, and let viewers request reminders. Follow YouTube’s guide to creating a live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio into your encoder or hosted service. Treat the key like a password: it lets the encoder send the feed to the correct YouTube stream. Do not share it publicly.
- Configure the selected service to play the training video or playlist continuously. Confirm whether it loops automatically and what it does at the end of the final file. The platform connection steps are consistent, but playlist controls vary by service.
- Start the encoder feed and wait for the incoming preview in YouTube Live Control Room. Check the image and sound before clicking Go live for a scheduled encoder event.
For a continuous training channel, decide whether viewers should see a scheduled event or a recurring always-on destination, and test the viewer-facing watch page before sharing it with learners.

Set the video format and test the feed
YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Its published live settings support H.264, H.265, or AV1 video encoding, constant bitrate (CBR), and a keyframe interval of 2 seconds; the interval should not exceed 4 seconds. Use YouTube’s current bitrate table for your chosen resolution and frame rate rather than guessing a bitrate. The platform transcodes incoming video into playback formats for viewers. - Test at the resolution and frame rate you intend to use, with representative motion and audio.
- Use a private or unlisted test, then inspect the Live Control Room preview and any stream-health warnings.
- Check audio levels, aspect ratio, playback on a phone, and what happens when one training video ends.
- Monitor the feed after launch. YouTube recommends continuous quality monitoring; a successful preview is not a guarantee that a long-running stream will remain healthy.
Keep the stream separate from your lesson archive

Long streams also weaken replay navigation: YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours, and viewers cannot seek to a point before the stream began. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.
If learners need to revisit a specific product lesson, preserve each lesson as a normal YouTube upload and keep a separate recording. You can consider planned stream restarts, but test their effect on the watch page, notifications, handoff, and workload; the cited YouTube guidance does not promise a seamless restart or one continuous archive across separate events.

Clear rights and set realistic monetization expectations
Before streaming, confirm that you hold the rights needed to use every part of the feed: training footage, music, clips, screenshots, product demonstrations, and other third-party material. YouTube’s live-stream terms require providers to have the necessary worldwide rights, including music licensing rights. Read YouTube’s Terms of Service.
