Can I live stream a podcast on YouTube with BSNL broadband?
Yes, if the connection can sustain the encoder’s total outgoing bitrate reliably. An encoder sends video and audio to YouTube continuously, so a speed-test result that briefly peaks above the target is not enough to guarantee a stable broadcast. Other people and devices using the same connection can also reduce the bandwidth available to the stream.

What upload speed do I need for YouTube Live?
Use YouTube’s H.264 video bitrate recommendations as a starting point, then add audio bitrate and headroom. The figures below are YouTube encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, not measurements of BSNL service. The minimum column is not a prudent target for a connection that fluctuates; choose settings your line can sustain with room to spare.

For example, a 720p30 stream configured at YouTube’s recommended 8 Mbps video bitrate needs additional capacity for audio and the recommended network headroom. Do not treat 8 Mbps as the complete connection requirement. YouTube also recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a keyframe interval around two seconds (no more than four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio; its advanced settings list 128 kbps stereo audio. To choose a practical setting, test upload speed on the actual streaming computer and network, preferably at the time of day you plan to broadcast. Repeat tests if results vary, and account for competing household or office use. Start with 720p30 only if your sustained upload can cover its recommended video bitrate, audio, and headroom. If it cannot, lower the bitrate and resolution; YouTube lists 480p30 at a recommended 4 Mbps video bitrate. A stable, lower-resolution stream is preferable to one that repeatedly buffers or drops frames.

What BSNL plan or speed should I check?
Check your own plan’s declared typical speed, fair-use status, and local terms, then measure the connection. TRAI says it does not prescribe one minimum upload or download speed for all broadband connections and points consumers to provider-declared typical speeds and its MySpeed measurement service. How do I stream a prerecorded podcast episode using OBS?
- Prepare the episode and confirm live access. Sign in to the YouTube channel that will host the broadcast and confirm live streaming is available. Have the episode video or visual layout, audio, title, description, thumbnail, and credits ready. Confirm you have permission for the episode and all included music, clips, and other material.
- Create or schedule the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling gives you a watch page to share ahead of time. Copy the stream URL and key from the event’s settings. You can also set latency and DVR options: lower latency can help real-time interaction but may increase buffering, so a one-way episode broadcast will often be better served by normal latency. See YouTube’s live stream settings.
- Configure OBS to send the episode. In OBS, select YouTube if available, or use the custom RTMPS service and enter the stream URL and key supplied in Live Control Room. Add the prerecorded episode as a media source, or use the video and audio sources that make up your intended layout. Set resolution, frame rate, video bitrate, and audio bitrate to values your measured upload can sustain. Use H.264, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC or MP3 audio unless you have a specific supported workflow for another codec. YouTube’s encoder guidance also lists H.265 and AV1, but use those only if your encoder and workflow support them. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not show it in a screen share, recording, or public post, and do not give it to people who should not control the stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube’s live settings before broadcasting again.
- Rehearse the whole broadcast. Start an unlisted or otherwise appropriate test stream. Check that the episode plays from the intended beginning, audio is clear and synchronized, and the Live Control Room preview and stream-health indicators look sound. Test with audio and motion similar to the real episode. If you need a local recording, confirm OBS is saving it and inspect the resulting file.
- Go live and monitor. Start streaming in OBS, verify the YouTube preview and stream health, then start the event if it is not configured to begin automatically. Watch the player and monitor audio throughout. If buffering or dropped frames appear, lower the encoder bitrate or resolution and pause competing uploads and downloads. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder delivery. Its encoder setup is not limited to OBS, so another compatible encoder can follow the same general workflow. Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
How can I make the BSNL connection more reliable?
- Prefer Ethernet where practical. YouTube says a wired connection may help. It avoids some local Wi-Fi interference, but cannot increase the upload speed provisioned by your provider.
- Keep bandwidth available. Stop cloud backups, large uploads, downloads, and other avoidable traffic during the stream. Ask other users to limit bandwidth-heavy activity.
- Test under realistic conditions. Rehearse at the expected broadcast time and with the same devices and network conditions. A quiet-hour test may not reflect a busy evening connection.
- Choose reliability over resolution. Reduce bitrate and resolution if the stream health deteriorates; do not keep a higher setting simply because the plan advertises a fast download speed.
- Consider a backup only if you can operate it. A second connection or encoder may add resilience, but it also adds cost and setup complexity. No particular backup option is guaranteed for every BSNL subscriber.

Before rebroadcasting, confirm that you have the rights or permission needed for the podcast episode and every embedded element, including music, clips, and guest material where applicable. A podcast being available to listen to does not by itself establish that it may be retransmitted as a YouTube live stream. The sources cited here do not establish whether a particular episode is cleared, so check the relevant rights and permissions rather than assuming it is.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube reports dropped frames or the player buffers: the outgoing bitrate may exceed stable upload capacity, or the connection may be congested. Reduce bitrate or resolution, stop other network traffic, and test again.
- The stream will not connect: verify that the stream URL and key belong to the event you created, and check that the encoder is using the intended service and RTMPS settings. Replace an exposed or compromised key.
- The preview is blank or the episode does not advance: check the OBS media source, file path, playback state, and audio/video routing before restarting the test.
- Audio is clipped, missing, or out of sync: check source selection, levels, and synchronization in OBS, then rehearse with the same episode and layout.
- Results vary between speed tests: repeat the measurement at the planned broadcast time and choose settings that fit the lower sustained results, while allowing for other users’ traffic.
