Live capture shows a session as it happens; a prerecorded rerun plays a recording without requiring an active game session. For a continuous rerun without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo can loop an uploaded video from the cloud to YouTube.
Choose between live gameplay and a prerecorded rerun
Capture a game session as it happens
Use this route if you want the stream to show current play, live commentary, or interaction around an active session. Run Tabletop Simulator and OBS on the same computer, capture the game window or display, and send the feed to YouTube Live.

Replay an existing recording
Use a local video file as an encoder source if the goal is to rebroadcast previously recorded gameplay. Valve’s Steamworks livestreaming documentation confirms that OBS can stream existing video files, but it does not document the current OBS controls for repeating a media source indefinitely. Check the repeat or loop behavior in your installed OBS version and test it before relying on an unattended rerun.
A prerecorded feed does not require Tabletop Simulator to be running during playback. It also does not make recorded play live in the ordinary sense: viewers see a video delivered through a live event, not a current game session.

Check YouTube Live eligibility before setup
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days, and its guidance states that streamers must be at least 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming well before the planned event. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and its encoder setup guide.
Set up the event and encoder
- Prepare the source. For live play, open Tabletop Simulator and arrange your game view and audio. For a rerun, prepare the video file and add it as a media source in OBS. Verify and test the installed version’s loop behavior if playback must repeat.
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream using the encoder workflow.
- Copy the connection details. Copy YouTube’s stream URL and stream key into the matching server and key fields in OBS or another encoder. Treat the key as a password: anyone who has it can send a feed to your event. Do not show it in a screen capture or share it publicly.
- Configure picture and audio. Select the game capture or video source, check that the intended audio is reaching the encoder, and arrange the layout. A separate capture card is not established as necessary for a same-computer setup; YouTube’s encoder workflow supports gameplay and screen sharing, with external audio or video hardware as optional production choices.
- Send a test feed and inspect the preview. Start the encoder output and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Check framing, motion, audio levels, and synchronization before starting the public event. YouTube advises preparing encoders ahead of time, checking the preview, and monitoring stream quality; see its streaming tips.
- Start and monitor the event. Follow the prompts in YouTube Studio to start the live event. Keep an eye on the encoder and Live Control Room while streaming. At the end, stop the event and encoder in the interface’s normal sequence.
Choose encoder settings that fit the connection
YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingestion, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; the keyframe interval should not exceed four seconds. Supported video codecs listed in its guidance include H.264, HEVC, and AV1, and frame rates up to 60 fps are supported. These are platform recommendations and supported options, not a guarantee that every encoder, computer, or connection can sustain every combination. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance, then choose settings available in your encoder and suitable for your upload capacity.

Set resolution and bitrate with your real upstream bandwidth in mind. YouTube recommends upload capacity with 20% headroom beyond the stream’s total bitrate. For example, if your chosen stream bitrate is 10 Mbps, aim for at least 12 Mbps of upload capacity available to the stream, rather than using the full capacity of a connection that other devices may also share. A wired connection and pausing large uploads can reduce avoidable competition for bandwidth.

Tabletop Simulator’s Steam listing gives game minimum requirements, not a streaming-performance guarantee. For Windows, it lists 64-bit Windows 10 version 21H1 or newer, 4 GB RAM, DX10-capable graphics, broadband internet, and 3 GB of storage. Its listed minimum operating systems also include macOS 12+ and Ubuntu 22.04 / 24.04 (64-bit). Check the current Tabletop Simulator Steam listing for platform-specific details.

OBS likewise cautions that meeting its system requirements does not ensure that a particular workload will perform well. Running a 3D game and encoding at the same time is more demanding than running either alone. Test the game, encoder, chosen resolution and frame rate together before announcing a stream; OBS documents its requirements at OBS system requirements.
Check rights and YouTube rules for a rerun
A live event does not grant permission to rebroadcast material. Use gameplay footage, music, voice chat, overlays, and other material only when you have the rights or a suitable licence. Tabletop Simulator content may include assets or music made by others, so consider each component separately. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions depend on the content and applicable policies; a rerun is not automatically exempt because it was previously recorded or is being sent through an encoder.

If the recording includes other players’ voices or private information, get appropriate permission and remove anything you should not broadcast. For long-running or repeated programming, make the stream’s purpose and source clear to viewers; a live label alone does not make reused material original.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not count on a complete automatic archive for an event that runs 12 hours or longer; if preserving the full recording matters, keep a local source copy and verify the result after the event. The platform’s statement is in its encoder setup guide.

For an OBS-based rerun, verify the media source’s repeat behavior in your installed version, then run a test long enough to confirm that the file reaches its end and starts again as intended. The available official documentation confirms that OBS can stream existing files, but does not establish one current UI path for continuous looping across versions.
Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube does not show an incoming preview: Confirm live streaming is enabled, the event uses the encoder workflow, and the stream URL and key were copied into the correct fields. If this is the channel’s first activation, allow for the possible 24-hour wait.
- The event starts but video or audio is missing: Check that the intended capture or media source is enabled and visible in the encoder, and inspect the audio meters and selected audio source. Confirm the Live Control Room preview before going public.
- The stream buffers, drops frames, or looks unstable: Reduce bitrate, resolution, or frame rate, and check that available upload capacity exceeds the stream bitrate by YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Check whether other devices or uploads are using the connection.
- The game becomes sluggish while streaming: Test the game and encoder together, lower demanding game or encoding settings, and avoid assuming that meeting either application’s minimum requirements guarantees simultaneous performance.
- The recording stops instead of repeating: Check the media source’s repeat control in the installed OBS version and test the complete file cycle before leaving it unattended. Do not assume looping is enabled by default.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: Check the event in YouTube Studio after it ends. YouTube’s automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours, not longer events.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is an always-on rerun rather than a live Tabletop Simulator session, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos and playlists from the cloud to YouTube. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; your computer can be off. Each slot streams the video as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded video; it does not broadcast a live camera or active gameplay session.
