You can stream recorded school annual day performances as a YouTube Live event by creating a stream in YouTube Studio, sending it a video feed from an encoder, and setting that encoder’s playlist to repeat. YouTube’s Live Control Room provides the stream URL and key; the repeat setting belongs to the playback software, not a documented YouTube Live switch. Before broadcasting, confirm rights and permissions for the recordings, music, and identifiable students—especially if the stream or replay will be public.
Before you stream: settle the rights, permissions, and audience
Confirm rights for the performances and music
Make an inventory of the final recordings and everything they contain: songs and backing tracks, choreography, scripts, visuals, and third-party footage or audio. Confirm that the school has permission for recording and online live communication to the audience and in the places intended, as well as for any replay or archive. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions say the provider must have the necessary rights for Live Content on Google services throughout the world, including music licensing rights.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can trigger a warning and a placeholder; continued use can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. Even where the school has a licence, the relevant rights owner may need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Check YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and resolve permissions before the event rather than relying on an on-air appeal.

Section 52(1)(j) of India’s Copyright Act provides a limited educational-institution exception for certain performances in the course of institutional activities; its text limits the relevant audience to staff and students, parents or guardians, and people connected with institutional activities. A public YouTube stream may be accessible beyond that audience. Whether the exception applies depends on the facts, audience, and rights involved, so a school should obtain the necessary permissions or qualified legal advice for its specific use. The official Copyright Office publishes the Act.

Protect students and decide what happens to the replay
Get documented parent or guardian permission for identifiable students and explain where the stream can be viewed, who the intended audience is, and how long the live event and replay will remain available. Plan an alternate shot, edit, or exclusion for students without permission. A Ministry of Electronics & IT release dated 12 December 2025 says the DPDP Act, 2023 and Rules, 2025 were notified on 13 November 2025; it describes verifiable parental consent for processing children’s personal data and certain educational-institution exemptions. This is not a school-specific legal determination: ask the school’s privacy or legal lead to check the current law and how it applies to the planned publication.
Prepare the video playlist and YouTube event
Arrange the recordings
Put the final files in the order families should see them. Decide whether opening and closing titles belong in the loop, and make sure the final item does not end on a long slate, silence, or black frame before playback returns to the first item. Keep a separate copy of the source recordings and verify that it is readable; YouTube recommends checking the integrity of local archive files.

Create or schedule a stream in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live.
- Open Manage and schedule a stream or create one. Add an accurate title, description, thumbnail, audience setting, visibility, and start time.
- If promoting the event in advance, share the scheduled watch URL. For a rehearsal, choose unlisted visibility if appropriate and confirm the setting on the event; do not assume the default is unlisted.
- Check visibility deliberately. YouTube says users aged 13–17 default to private, while adult streamers default to public; streamers can change the visibility.
Connect a playback encoder and make the files repeat
YouTube receives the event through an encoder: playback/streaming software sends the selected video and audio to the stream created in Studio. YouTube’s encoder workflow does not document a native repeat-playlist switch in Live Control Room, so configure repetition in the software that plays the files.
- In YouTube Studio’s Stream tab, copy the server URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it or send it to families; reset it if it is exposed.
- Load the recordings as a playlist in the intended order and enable repeat or loop in the playback software. The exact control varies by software and version.
- Test playback through the end of the last item and back to the first. Check for gaps, silence, black frames, an unwanted ending slate, or a change in audio level.
You can run an encoder on a school computer, but its continuing operation depends on that computer, power, and the school’s internet connection. YouTube’s encoder information also names Gyre as an example of a cloud-based service for continuous prerecorded-video streams; that mention is not an endorsement and does not establish its current features, price, or availability in India.

Rehearse, monitor, and start the live event
YouTube advises setting up encoder streams at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the planned event. Use an unlisted rehearsal with the same files and audio behavior where that fits the school’s privacy plan.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room.
- Check picture and sound, playlist order, and the transition from the final recording to the first.
- Open the watch page as a viewer and test it on a phone as well as a computer. Confirm the page has the intended visibility.
- Check stream health and confirm that any local backup or recording is being written and can be opened.
- When ready, select Go live in Live Control Room. Keep a responsible operator available throughout to monitor playback and respond if the encoder, connection, or YouTube stream fails.
End the stream and review the archive
At the end of the event, select End stream in Live Control Room and stop the encoder feed. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Review the replay for copyright claims, technical faults, and student privacy. Then decide whether it should remain public, become unlisted or private, or be removed. Permission for a live event should not be presumed to authorize an indefinite public archive.

Choose local playback or a cloud service
A local encoder is a practical option if staff can keep the computer, power, and connection available and can handle recovery. A cloud service may suit an unattended continuous loop. Compare the actual operational needs: playlist repetition, visibility and archive controls, who can monitor or recover the stream, dependence on school infrastructure, and current availability and price. Confirm a vendor’s details directly; YouTube’s mention of a service category does not establish those details.
