YouTube documents a Live Redirect from a finished live stream to one selected Premiere—not an automatic handoff from a live playlist to a playlist of multiple Premieres. For a continuous prerecorded channel, an encoder or streaming service must send the program to YouTube. You can then configure a separate redirect to one Premiere, provided you schedule it first and end the live stream before it begins.
What YouTube’s scheduling and redirect features do
- Scheduling a live event creates the event in YouTube Studio, where viewers can find it and set a reminder. Scheduling alone does not supply video or keep a broadcast running.
- An encoder or streaming service sends the audio and video feed to YouTube using the server URL and stream key. YouTube describes the scheduled event and encoder connection as separate parts of setup.
- Live Redirect sends viewers from a finished live stream to one selected destination video, such as a Premiere or another live stream.
- A YouTube playlist organizes videos for viewers, but the official Live Redirect instructions reviewed do not describe using a playlist as an automatic queue of Premieres after a live stream.
The distinction is also reflected in the YouTube Live Streaming API: a liveBroadcast represents an event, while a liveStream represents transmitted content that can be bound to a broadcast. A scheduled event is not itself a playlist player. These descriptions are from YouTube and Google documentation accessed October 4, 2026.

Set up one live stream followed by one Premiere
- Schedule the Premiere first. In YouTube Studio, create and schedule the Premiere for the intended time. YouTube’s Live Redirect instructions recommend creating the destination Premiere before configuring the redirect.
- Create or schedule the live event. In YouTube Studio, go to Create → Go live → Manage → Schedule stream. Reuse previous settings or create new ones as appropriate.
- Connect the encoder or streaming service. Configure it with the YouTube server URL and stream key. Start the feed and check its preview in Live Control Room. Click Go live when ready unless you have configured and verified auto-start for that stream. Treat the stream key as a credential: YouTube describes it as the address and password that let YouTube accept the encoder feed.
- Choose the redirect destination. In Studio’s Live videos/Content area, or from Live Control Room, edit the source live stream, select the Premiere as its Live Redirect destination, and save.
- End the live feed before the Premiere’s scheduled start. YouTube says the Premiere can then start on the same watch page. Tell viewers to stay on that page instead of refreshing or leaving. The YouTube Help page estimates that the page reload may take about two seconds.
Menu labels can change, so if a label differs in your Studio account, look for the source stream’s redirect setting in the live stream’s edit controls. The official descriptions cited here are YouTube Help’s “Manage live stream settings” and “Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder,” plus Google/YouTube’s “Live Redirect to Premieres” guide, marked November 2020 and accessed October 4, 2026.
What to do if you want a playlist of Premieres
The documented redirect selects a destination video. The official instructions reviewed do not establish an automatic handoff from a live playlist to a playlist of multiple Premieres, chained redirects, or a precise process for moving viewers through each Premiere in sequence. Do not rely on a YouTube playlist to take over automatically when a live stream ends.

If the goal is to play several prerecorded files continuously as one live program, arrange those files in the encoder or streaming service that sends the feed to YouTube. Treat redirecting from that live program to a Premiere as a separate step, and plan on the documented single destination. If your requirement is an automatic sequence of several separate Premiere watch pages, the sources reviewed do not confirm a supported workflow for that sequence.
Choose how to keep the prerecorded feed running
For a 24/7 prerecorded channel, the important question is who supplies and maintains the continuous feed—not whether the YouTube event is scheduled. YouTube’s encoder guide lists local encoders, cloud-based 24/7 streaming tools, and dedicated hardware as possible approaches; it does not rank them or establish comparative reliability.

- Other cloud tools: YouTube’s guide lists Gyre and Upstream as cloud-based 24/7 streaming tools. The cited guide does not establish their current pricing, geographic availability, comparative uptime, or support for an automatic sequence of multiple Premieres. Check the current workflow for any tool before depending on it.
Ask any provider or encoder vendor who is responsible for restarting a failed feed, whether it supports the exact start and stop schedule, and whether it can assemble the prerecorded program you intend to broadcast. The YouTube sources reviewed provide no comparative uptime figures.

YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a channel described as 24/7, do not assume that one continuous broadcast longer than that will be archived as a single uninterrupted video under the same rule. Decide how the channel’s live presentation and any recordings should be handled before setting a long-running schedule.
