You can broadcast a prerecorded video as a YouTube Live event over Airtel broadband by sending it through an encoder. First check that your channel is eligible, then create the event in YouTube Studio, load the video into an encoder, and choose a bitrate your connection can sustain with spare upload capacity. An Airtel plan’s advertised speed—or a fast download test—does not establish the upload speed available to your streaming computer.
What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. YouTube’s eligibility requirements are described in its live streaming help.
- An encoder—software or hardware—that can play a media file into its live output. File playback, looping, and playlist controls vary by encoder.
- The prerecorded video and permission to broadcast its video and audio. YouTube eligibility does not grant rebroadcast rights; check the applicable rights and YouTube policies before streaming.
- Airtel broadband with enough sustained upload capacity for your chosen stream bitrate, plus headroom for variation and other network use.
Set up the YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live, and choose the encoder workflow.
- Set the event title, visibility, and schedule. For a rehearsal, use an unlisted event so you can test without making it public.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the matching fields in your encoder. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your event. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room.
- Load the prerecorded file into the encoder’s media playback workflow. Confirm the correct file, audio, and playback behavior; do not assume loop or playlist controls work the same way in every encoder.
- Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Check that the event is receiving the intended video and audio before starting or scheduling the broadcast.
YouTube documents encoder streaming and setup in its live encoder settings and streaming tips.

Choose resolution and bitrate for the upload you actually have
The following are YouTube’s recommended H.264 live-ingest bitrates. They are encoder targets, not Airtel plan speeds. The minimum values shown are also from YouTube’s encoder guidance; meeting a minimum does not guarantee a stable stream.
| Video output | Recommended H.264 bitrate | Minimum H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p, 60 fps | 12 Mbps | Not stated here; check YouTube’s current encoder settings table. |
| 1080p, 30 fps | 10 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| 720p, 60 fps | 6 Mbps | Not stated here; check YouTube’s current encoder settings table. |
| 720p, 30 fps | 6 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 480p, 30 fps | 4 Mbps | Not stated here; check YouTube’s current encoder settings table. |
| 360p, 30 fps | 3 Mbps | Not stated here; check YouTube’s current encoder settings table. |
For other codecs, including AV1 and H.265, use YouTube’s current settings table rather than applying the H.264 numbers. Use the entry matching both your codec and frame rate. YouTube’s listed encoder guidance also covers CBR, RTMP/RTMPS, and AAC or MP3 audio.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
Leave room above the video bitrate
YouTube recommends about 20% spare network capacity and says to account for the primary stream, any backup stream, and other network use. As a simple calculation, a 6 Mbps stream needs roughly 7.5 Mbps of available upstream capacity for 20% headroom, before allowing for other traffic. That is a planning calculation, not an Airtel speed guarantee. A connection that only just reaches the encoder bitrate leaves no margin for variation.
Pick stability over resolution
Choose 1080p30 only if the encoder can sustain its recommended bitrate with headroom during a representative test. If upload performance varies, try 720p30 or a lower output and test again. Higher resolution adds detail only when the connection can carry it reliably; dropped frames or interruptions can make a lower, stable setting the better choice.

Measure Airtel upload capacity at the streaming computer
- Run repeated speed tests on the computer and at the place where it will stream. Test at a time similar to the planned broadcast if practical.
- Look at the upload result, not just download speed. Download performance and an advertised broadband tier do not prove that enough upstream capacity will be available to send a live stream.
- Use Ethernet from the computer to the router if available. Pause other uploads and downloads and reduce competing household network use while testing.
- Compare the repeatable upload result with your target bitrate plus headroom. If it falls short or varies substantially, lower the encoder bitrate or resolution and retest.
Airtel notes that speed-test results can vary with time, location, and other factors; its broadband plans list advertised tiers whose availability and terms vary. Neither is a measurement of the sustained upstream rate at your encoder during the event. TRAI says it does not prescribe a minimum broadband upload or download speed; providers must declare typical speeds, and subscribers can measure their connection with TRAI MySpeed. A wired connection can remove Wi-Fi as one possible source of instability, but it cannot increase the Airtel service’s upstream capacity or resolve ISP-side congestion. See Airtel broadband plans and Airtel speed-test guidance for account and testing details.

- Run an unlisted test using the same file, encoder settings, network connection, and representative audio and motion planned for the real event.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health alerts. Confirm that viewers can access the event at the intended visibility.
- Listen for audio problems and watch for video interruptions during the test. Keep monitoring audio, video, and stream health while the event is live.
- If you use a backup stream, include its upload demand when checking headroom.
YouTube’s practical instruction is to make sure the outbound connection can carry the stream bitrate. Testing and monitoring reveal problems that an advertised plan speed cannot.

Troubleshoot common problems
Dropped frames or an unstable stream
- Repeat the upload test at the streaming computer and check YouTube’s stream-health messages.
- Switch to Ethernet if possible, stop competing uploads, and lower the bitrate or resolution until the connection has clear headroom.
- If performance changes over time, retest under the conditions when the stream will run; a wired connection will not fix insufficient upstream capacity or provider-side congestion.
The event does not appear or will not start
- Confirm the channel meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements, including having no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- Check that the encoder has the correct event’s stream URL and key, and that the Live Control Room preview is receiving the stream.
- Do not share the stream key. Reset it in Live Control Room if you believe it has been compromised.
Audio or video is missing or wrong
- Test the exact media file and playback workflow before the event, using representative audio and motion.
- Check the encoder’s selected video and audio settings against YouTube’s current guidance, including supported ingest protocol and codecs.
- Monitor both picture and sound in the preview and during the broadcast; a successful connection alone does not confirm the content is correct.
Airtel speed tests are lower than expected
- Repeat the test with fewer devices and less network traffic, and compare wired versus Wi-Fi results if possible.
- Check your plan and connection setup, then contact Airtel support for account-specific service issues. A general guide cannot diagnose local congestion, Wi-Fi interference, equipment faults, or a line-specific problem.
