To run Punjabi folk videos as a continuous YouTube livestream from an Indian VPS, clear the rights to every recording and visual, enable livestreaming on an eligible YouTube channel, create a live event in YouTube Studio, then run an encoder such as FFmpeg on the VPS to send the loop to YouTube over RTMPS. A VPS can keep the encoder running while your own computer is off, but it does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast: the encoder, server, network route and YouTube ingest all matter.
1. Clear the music and video rights before you stream
Punjabi folk is a genre, not a licence. A song’s traditional origins, an existing YouTube upload, or crediting the artist does not by itself give you permission to rebroadcast a particular recording or music video. YouTube’s Terms of Service put responsibility on the content provider to secure the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation. Its Help page, “Copyright issues with live streams,” also explains that live broadcasts are scanned for third-party content and can be interrupted or terminated after a match.

Check permission for each recording and visual, including both the live broadcast and any replay you plan to keep. Music can involve distinct rights in a sound recording and in the underlying composition; a music video can involve additional audiovisual rights. Keep the licence or written permission accessible and confirm its territory, term, platform, live-use, replay and monetization scope. The rights status of a specific Punjabi track cannot be determined from its genre or age alone.
If a rights owner has licensed the material but uses Content ID, ask whether the owner must add your channel to its allowlist. YouTube says licensed third-party content may still trigger a live interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. If you cannot document suitable rights, replace the track or visual rather than testing it on a public stream.

2. Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Enable livestreaming in YouTube Studio before launch and confirm that Studio allows the encoder workflow you intend to use. Do this early enough to resolve any account restriction before preparing a long-running broadcast.
3. Create the event and retrieve its stream settings
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Create → Go live. Create or schedule the broadcast in the Live Control Room. Check the event’s title, visibility, audience setting and scheduled start time before sending an encoder feed.
- Choose the encoder workflow. Copy the server or ingest URL and stream key shown in Studio into the VPS encoder configuration. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which sends RTMP through an SSL connection.
- Keep the key private. Treat it like a password. Do not put it in a public script repository, screenshot, article or shared shell transcript. Restrict access to the configuration file and reset the key in the Live Control Room if it is exposed.
- Distinguish the event from the feed. The YouTube API calls the specific event or video a liveBroadcast and the incoming audio-video feed a liveStream. For a basic VPS setup, create and manage the event in Studio; an API client is not required.
4. Prepare the VPS and media loop
Choose a server for sustained outbound streaming
Select a Linux VPS plan that permits sustained outbound video traffic and has enough CPU, memory, storage and transfer allowance for the encoder and media files. Check the provider’s current terms for sustained egress, included transfer, excess-transfer charges and any applicable traffic limits before buying. No particular Indian VPS provider, plan, price, egress quota or performance level is established here, so do not assume that a location label or advertised port speed proves the server can sustain your chosen stream.

Stage the files and playlist
Upload only cleared media to a directory the encoder can read. Build a playlist that specifies the intended order and repeat behavior, and decide what viewers see between clips. Depending on your material, the encoder may send each authorized video or combine audio with an authorized visual loop. Test transitions, duration, audio levels and behavior at the end of the list before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.

FFmpeg is one possible encoder, but the exact command depends on the input files, playlist format and whether you need to encode or pass through the media. The workflow is to read the chosen media sequence, produce a compatible audio-video output, and send that output to the RTMPS URL with the private stream key. Validate the command and loop behavior on your chosen VPS; no particular FFmpeg command or playlist script is established as tested here.
Set output to fit both YouTube and the VPS
YouTube’s “Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions” guidance recommends H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC or MP3 audio. Do not exceed a four-second keyframe interval. YouTube accepts output up to 60 fps; choose resolution and frame rate based on the source material, encoder capacity and sustained upload bandwidth rather than selecting the highest setting by default.

| H.264 output | YouTube recommended bitrate | YouTube minimum bitrate | Keyframe guidance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps | 3 Mbps | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps | 5 Mbps | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
These are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular VPS can sustain the required upload. Start with a setting the server can maintain, then test with representative motion and audio while watching Live Control Room stream health. Raise output quality only if the server and route remain stable.

- Watch encoder logs for input errors, failed reconnects and playlist exhaustion.
- Monitor CPU and memory pressure, disk space, network drops and sustained outbound throughput on the VPS.
- Watch stream health in YouTube’s Live Control Room and check the public playback from a separate device or connection.
- Keep a way to stop the service, replace a media file or rotate a compromised stream key without exposing credentials.
Plan for outbound data as well as bitrate. At a constant 8 Mbps, the video payload is about 86.4 GB over 24 hours: 8 megabits per second × 86,400 seconds ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000. This is an arithmetic estimate before protocol overhead, not a VPS quota or provider price. Compare it with the plan’s transfer allowance and confirm how the host treats sustained or excess traffic.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.6. Decide how you will handle archives
YouTube’s “Archive live streams” guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends a local backup. If you need a complete record, configure and test recording independently of the outgoing stream, reserve enough disk space for the full session, and copy finished files to separate storage. An external hard drive can be an optional physical backup; it is not required for VPS-to-YouTube ingest.
| Approach | What it helps with | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| One continuous event | Fewer event boundaries to manage | Once a stream exceeds 12 hours, YouTube may not capture it; a separate local recording is important if a complete replay matters. |
| Planned shorter events | Clearer event boundaries and separate intended archive files | More operational work. Splitting a broadcast does not guarantee that every event will be archived or that viewers will experience no interruption. |
7. Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube does not accept the feed: Check that the channel is eligible for live streaming, the event is open in Studio, and the encoder is using the matching ingest URL and current stream key. Reset a key that may have been exposed.
- The preview is black or has no sound: Confirm that the encoder is reading the intended media, that its output contains both video and audio, and that the selected codecs are compatible with YouTube’s guidance. Check the encoder logs and Studio preview before going public.
- Playback buffers or stream health degrades: Check sustained VPS upload throughput, packet or network drops, encoder CPU load and the chosen bitrate. Lower the output bitrate or resolution and test again if the server cannot sustain the current setting.
- The encoder stops at the end of the playlist: Check the playlist’s repeat configuration and the supervisor’s process status. Test end-of-list behavior with the exact files and script before relying on it continuously.
- The live stream is interrupted after a music match: Review YouTube’s notice and the rights for the matched recording or visual. If it is licensed, contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting; otherwise remove or replace the material. Do not assume that restarting the encoder resolves a rights match.
- The live event has no complete replay: Check its duration against YouTube’s 12-hour archive guidance and whether independent recording was enabled and had sufficient disk space. A planned event split is not a substitute for a tested backup.
8. Keep monetization separate from copyright clearance
Permission to use music does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policy says repetitive or mass-produced material may be treated as inauthentic, and reused content needs meaningful original value such as commentary, substantive changes or educational or entertainment value. YouTube assesses the channel as a whole. Add genuine curation, context or original presentation where appropriate, and check the channel’s current YouTube Partner Program status; do not assume that a continuously looped playlist will qualify for ads.
