To keep a prerecorded news ticker running on YouTube around the clock, prepare a rights-cleared playlist, add the ticker in a cloud playout service, and send that service’s output to YouTube Live using your channel’s stream URL and private stream key. Test the graphics, playlist transitions, recovery, and archive plan before you rely on it for a public broadcast.
What you need before going live

Build a playlist of segments that can run in the intended order and confirm that each item has passed your rights review. Decide what should happen at transitions, when the playlist ends, and if a scheduled item is unavailable. Add the ticker using the playout service’s overlay or graphics controls. Use concise text with strong contrast, keep it clear of important video content, and preview it at both mobile and desktop viewing sizes. There is no universal ticker layout standard established by the cited sources, so check legibility on the actual output rather than relying only on the editing preview. Confirm that updated ticker text appears when expected and does not cover captions or essential visuals.

Connect the cloud output to YouTube Live
- Enable live streaming ahead of launch. Verify the channel and confirm that YouTube Studio allows you to create a live stream. New activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Create or schedule a broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Use the encoder workflow so YouTube provides the server URL and stream key.
- Enter the YouTube destination in the playout service. Copy the server URL and stream key into the service’s YouTube encoder destination. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, share it unnecessarily, or place it in public documents. YouTube documents the URL-and-key method in its encoder guide.
- Choose RTMPS when supported. RTMPS carries RTMP over SSL/TLS. YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion documentation specifies port 443 and a valid YouTube ingestion endpoint. Follow the exact endpoint and connection options exposed by YouTube and your service.
- Start the cloud output and inspect the incoming preview. Before publishing, check that video and ticker are visible, audio is correct if present, and YouTube’s Live Control Room reports a healthy incoming feed. Resolve warnings or missing picture before making the broadcast public.
- Exercise the workflow before launch. Test playlist transitions, ticker edits, an interrupted connection, and the archive rollover plan. Confirm which of these actions the selected provider automates; provider features and plan limits can differ.
Plan for archives and long broadcasts
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is not a safe assumption for a nonstop stream that crosses the 12-hour boundary: YouTube may not save longer broadcasts as a single archive. If saved videos or replay links matter, schedule separate broadcasts before reaching 12 hours, then verify the resulting saved videos and links in your channel.
As one provider-specific example, playout.video’s help center describes an 11-hour restart setting for its own 24/7 workflow. That is not a YouTube guarantee and does not establish that other services offer the same setting. Check the selected service’s rollover controls and test that a restart creates the archives you need.

YouTube’s encoder guide also lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. This listing identifies a relevant service category; it is not an independent reliability test or an endorsement, and current pricing and plan details are not established here. The same YouTube page lists Grabyo Producer and Upstream.so, but their appearance there alone does not establish that each can automatically loop prerecorded playlists and provide ticker graphics in the exact configuration you need.

Troubleshoot common launch problems
YouTube does not accept the stream or shows no incoming video
Check that live streaming is enabled for the channel, then verify that the stream URL and key were copied into the correct destination fields. If you changed or reset the key, update it in the cloud service. Confirm that the encoder is using a valid YouTube ingestion endpoint and, where supported, RTMPS on port 443.

The preview appears, but the broadcast is not ready to publish
Wait for the incoming feed and health indicators in Live Control Room, then check the service output for a stable picture and the expected ticker. A visible preview does not replace checking that the correct scheduled broadcast is selected and ready for publishing.
The ticker is hard to read or covers the story
Shorten the text, increase contrast, reposition the overlay, and preview at phone and desktop sizes. Check captions and key visual areas, and confirm that ticker updates propagate to the live output.
The playlist stops, repeats incorrectly, or misses a transition
Review the playlist order, loop or schedule mode, and behavior when a segment ends or cannot play. Test transitions using the actual cloud workflow before relying on the schedule for a continuous public stream.
The connection drops or the archive is missing
Check the service’s reconnect and rollover settings rather than assuming recovery is automatic. For archives, plan a new broadcast before a continuous stream reaches 12 hours and inspect the saved video afterward. A provider’s restart feature is not a guarantee that YouTube will create the archive you expect.
Protect the channel and the broadcast
YouTube states: “All content in live streams must adhere to our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.” Review those rules and obtain the rights needed for every third-party clip, image, headline, logo, and audio track. A news purpose by itself does not establish permission to rebroadcast material; when a license is unclear, get qualified rights advice before including it.
